kurtzfan
^ Well, all rail transit systems need downtime for maintenance. YVR - first train to Waterfront: 5.10 am - last train to Waterfront: 12.57 am Waterfront - first train to YVR: 4.50 am - last train to YVR: 1.05 am - first train to Richmond: 5.32 am - last train to Richmond: 1.15 am Richmond Centre - first train to Waterfront: 5.05 am - last train to Waterfront: 12.48 am It's a fair schedule. My only complain is the train frequencies, they need more trains for higher frequencies asap! I absolutely adore the automatic station announcements, I mean like wow. Inspired by Hong Kong, automatic station announcements were one of the suggestions I sent to InTransitBC years ago. yup, 40 trains are not enough!!! btw, there is only single track at the Brighouse station. Will translink expand it into tracks in the future?
nitronuts
^ actually it's 20 two-train TRAINS, which makes 40 CARS. You can still run frequencies as high as 3-minutes in the Richmond and YVR single-track sections. The single-track sections are only 640-metres long, or about 3 city blocks long. Double-tracking wouldn't be needed, but would increase reliability especially if a train ever broke down at the single-tracked sections.

trek
those audio announcements in the stations are extremely awesome. They should add them to SkyTrain as well. But I notice that the Canada Line overhead signs don't flash the next train information (like Expo Line - King George) as the train pulls in. They are static, displaying the arrival times only. Do they intend to change that?
Common sense
those audio announcements in the stations are extremely awesome. They should add them to SkyTrain as well. But I notice that the Canada Line overhead signs don't flash the next train information (like Expo Line - King George) as the train pulls in. They are static, displaying the arrival times only. Do they intend to change that? It does say whether the current train pulling into the station is going to YVR or Richmond, and vice versa to Waterfront. I think that's a good start. Although that technology of the "next train info" can be implemented onto the RAV, i like where it is for now. now THAT's saying something. Do they intend to change that? I agree, i absolutely adore the audio announcements at the stations. I don't think flashing is necessary, i mean you've gotta be an idiot to not know what's going on. The electronic displays count down the times, there are loud audio announcements at the stations, and the trains themselves have electronic displays on both the front and sides telling you their final destination. I'd love to see audio announcements and electronic displays for train arrival times on the other two SkyTrain lines, but i could see NIMBYism being a problem with those loud announcements being that most of the Expo and Millennium Lines are elevated or at ground level. They would have to turn down the volume, especially at night.
trek
more speakers at lower volume should be enough for people on the platform to hear them without the sound traveling too far outside the station

I just wish they would have an announcement telling passengers to let people off first before boarding.
Mr.Habitat
Took my first ride on the line today, and loved it! It was smooth, the cars were big, it ran nicely. The stations excellent! Marine Dr.Station to Vancouver city centre in 15 minutes. Really really nice!

LOL! even better they need to have chinese translations for that especially. not racist at all (im chinese myself and very embarrassed seeing it) but chinese people are one of the rudest in terms of getting on, off. they f*king always stand right in the middle of the entrance or right on the side so that they can try to slip in. its like theyre scared the doors are going to close right away or so they can quickly steal a seat. attention to those chinese folks, theres nothing free on the train, there are no stalls within the train to bargain at and there other people other than yourself; take your freaking time... the only non enjoyable part was going from bridgeport to richmond centre and vise versa. horrdendous. theyre loud and always rush in and out... /end rant Edited August 20, 2009 by LoneI2anger
Mr.Habitat
How long did it take you before? Look up bus schedule, 5 minutes, walk to bus stop 3 minutes. Get on bus.. takes 25-30 min to get downtown in peak hours. The 98 B line was another option for me.. but that bus where I get on in south Van is already packed, disgusting. I hate busses. It basically cuts the trip to downtown in half.
nitronuts
I just wish they would have an announcement telling passengers to let people off first before boarding. lol, yea they were definitely missing that for the announcements. While I was at Waterfront yesterday, an attendant went on the public announcement system on the station and tried to tell people to let passengers exit first before boarding. Something along the lines of this would be perfect: "The next train to arrive on the inbound platform is for Waterfront. Please let passengers exit first before boarding the train." I've ridden the MTR too and why do you think they put up those suicide barriers (other than to prevent jumpers)? They open a fraction of second later than the train doors so the people on the train can force their way out before the people try to push in. Also, you have the a 'Mo' here old grannies that are definitely canto, and they push and barge everywhere they go on SkyTrain and #10 Main. (Yes I'm Chinese). I've ride the MTR in Hong Kong and they behave much better. and so ive heard. ive had friends tell me how they even have simple painted footsteps on the platform so people know how to line up and that they ACTUALLY follow it. people here will step on that friggen yellow strip on the platform so that they can get in earlier, how they hell would they follow some drawing on the ground... I agree completely, its amazing how little they care about others. A lot of old grandmas that just push their way in no matter how little people are in the train and how much time they have. you bet, i know theyre elderly, but come on, by the time you get on, MOST people would easily give up their seat for them too. but jesus christ. this especially starts on the snobbish/older ones. it honestly pisses me as i take the train almost everyday, and EVERYTIME i will see this...
