Burrows? Do We Really Need Him?

You guys seem to think that your fellow Canuck players can do no wrong and do not harbour any semblance of characteristics that most people look down on.

If I were Burrows I would be happy that Kesler got a raise but at the same time I would be jealous that he is making so much more than I am. If the difference was 1 million then I would be ok because clearly Kesler is a bet overall player. However that is not the case. Kesler will be making over two times what Burrows is making. I'd be mad at MG and jealous at Kesler.

ya actually burrows must feel like crap right now, i remember kes is the one saying everyone should take a pay cut to keep a good team together, then burr signs for 2 mil. Then, BOOM kesler 5 mil. Which to me is a debatable deal. It's probably his market value without a hometown discount. So... i donno... if he wasn't gonna take a discount contract then don't start the talk in the first place.

Not taking away from the player that he is but i feel like he is a lot of talk both on and off the ice.

On a side note, anyone know how much BMO took during the westcoast express years?

Kesler (5 mil) is 10th on the scoring list 66pts for centerman,centerman ahead of him Malkin 8.7 69pts,Stastny 6.6mil 70pts,Kopitar 6.8mil 71pts, Richards 7.8 mil 77pts,Thorton 7.2mil 82pts, Stamkos3.75mil rfa 2011/2012--play wing or center???, Backstrom 2.4 mil ufa 87pts, Crosby 8.7 mil 87pts, Sedin 6.1 mil 94 pts

Considering that kesler plays 2nd line minutes compared to all those guys playing 1st line minutes he is a super bargin....and can anybody on that list touch him --two way????

overall he is 21st overall less one dman he is 20th overall...less both Sedins (on his team)he is 18th overall---smokin deal

another way to look at it. Crosby,Malkin 17.4mil Ovie, semin(backstrom next year) 15 mil,

Chi Kane Toews 12.6mil, Sedin, kesler 11.1 mil-----all long contracts except the van duo

Quick!Everyone in Vancouver give Burrows $5 each.:frantic:

But honestly even though we don't know him in person, Burrows seems like he'd be thankful for what he has. All the more reason to support Burr

I think the beauty of a guy like Burrows is that he possesses the class and the character to set those feelings aside, and to separate any feelings he does have in that regard, from his game, from what he brings to the rink day in and day out, and from his loyalty and commitment to his team mates. As burrows himself said, championship teams and legacy teams all have a core group, a nucleus of guys that carry it through it's good years. Burr seems genuinely anxious to be a part of bringing long term success to Vancouver. A family of players is growing and Burrows is happy about being part of the core and the family. He knows he'll get his share over time.

How can anybody not love a guy like Burrows? His interview about Kes's signing is all class and professionalism. At risk of sounding like a bandwaggoner, I myself am startiing to believe that this IS THE group that will eventually bring the Cup home. It's not just the players. It's the whole organization. From the owners, to the coaches, to the marketers and to the fans, they all contribute to making and creating a culture of winning and of success. This kind of organization can build players as much as players can build this organization. Initiatives like bring a guy like Walters in as a leadership specialist per say are bringing great dividends. Players who come here can get better. Not only better but the organization can build players into the best that they can be. Erhoff, for example. Maybe even Alberts will become something better than he's ever been.

It's just great to see. Vancouver deserves it. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Vancouver remains a top level team for some time to come. Burrows is as genuinely excited about being a part of that as anybody. And I don't think he has any reason to think he won't be rewarded for that.

Kesler is his good friend and teammate. He won't be jealous, but happy.

Each one of them can afford to buy each other lunch for the next five years. IMO Burrows will only be happy for Kesler and vice-versa when Burr signs his next contract.

Why are we on CDC worrying about these things. Gillis and Gilman are paid to look after all this stuff and they haven't done a bad job to date. smile.gif

I was just thinking that Burrows could have gotten 3-3.5. Oh well. What's done is done. Lets just hope it works out in the end.

Burrows made his deal and it is up to him to be happy with it! IMHO he would have made 3.5 to 4m if he held out for offers. Burrows is quite underrated, he piles up the points while killing penalties and back-checking like the devil, is a plus 30 and can be a real "Burr" (pun intended) in the other teams sides. Add to that his 5 short handed tallies and I could easily see a team clearing up $4m for him. Yes he could have done much better but I truly believe that he feels The Canucks believed in him and gave him his chance and hey $8m over 4 years is a lot of money!!!!

I find it impossible to believe he is not feeling some regret right now, but I will only be a fleeting feeling.

The guy is making 2 mill. He's got other things to worry about.

Apparently he broke/lost a tooth? When did that happen?

Burr just exudes class and character, doesn't he? I mean, the road he's traveled, and to be able to come across the way he does, just speaks to how much character he has built from that. Too bad every player can't come up that way. With as much humility. His interview being the classic case. I think if there is anything that people don't realize, it's that Burr seems very capable of drawing the distinction between the business and the game from a player's perspective.

The only "jealousy" out there, is the jealousy around the league from those teams without Burrows in their line up. ;)

Retrospetively I feel it a bit ironic that when last year Kes was talking about the need to take a pay cut to make the team better, he was actually talking about Burr's cheap deal paving the way for his own relatively expensive contract. Isn't it?wink.gif
