canucklehead44
To Vancouver Erhoff Sexsmith To San Jose Schneider Hansen Conditional draft pick Why would San Jose do this? Less than half a million in cap space while needing to sign a backup goalie and 4 forwards. Schneider would provide San Jose with a solid young backup who could get some seasoning playing behind Nabokov. If Schneider performs San Jose would also have the option of signing a cheap 1A goalie to tandem with Schneider (Martin Biron type) next season (Nabokov a UFA). Setoguchi and Pavelski are both RFAs after next year and will see substantial raises. The Sharks have Greiss in the system who put up very average numbers in the AHL last season. Hansen provides San Jose with a cheap, young forward to play a bottom six role. 21 points in 55 games are decent numbers for a rookie bottom six player. San Jose would also receive a 2nd round pick if Schneider plays 20 games or less, 3rd round pick if he plays 21-40 games, or no pick if he plays 41 games or more. Why would Vancouver do this? Contract negotiations seem to have stalled with Hansen. Vancouver has a lot of young forwards trying to crack the lineup. The Canucks won't need Schneider, especially if Lu does sign his big extension. Ehrhoff provides the Canucks with a solid dman who is still young and who has 2 years left on his contract. He would be the perfect replacement for Ohlund and is good on the powerplay.
