Designated "Raymonds"

Yet ANOTHER Raymond thread...........how refreshing. One with a difference though.

Mason Raymond is No.1 victim for all manner of crap being spouted by the "hockey intelligentsia" on here.

Begs the question, human nature being what it is. "Who is the designated Raymond in the other 29 teams?" Could we build a "super team" playing out of Raymond , Wisconsin (The town is currently trying for a post office from USPS, but they have been told it is too small......now where have we heard that before........) with a roster of designated Raymonds?...........

Am I the only one who thinks they would probably win a SC before we do?.................Afterall look at who have held past accolades for our team alone.

Our designated Raymond's have been Lu, Bieksa, Ballard and the King himself..........not a bad start.

I vote DownUnderCanuck to be coach, as his lateral thinking is so flexible and "way out there" there would never be any "failure" to alter tactics from one game to the next........................................often he would be seen experimenting with various lineups in the lunch time seating arrangements.

J.D. Ball would obviously have to be assistant as they would need to "gain respect" on the ice and he obviously has the credentials to make that happen. ........His first action I am thinking would be to send the "King" himself for intensive "Gary Roberts" till he emerged a 220 lbs beast taking to the ice with the still warm remnants of raw flesh hanging out of his mouth.

DeNiro with Baggins as GM and Assistant GM because they are two of the few on here who talk any sense.

Their combined ability to pick "designated Raymonds" in the draft would be awesome, causing partying and drunkenness amongst the 3,500 inhabitants of Raymond at the very thought of their drafts potential for failing to stay upright or to assume the "butterfly" in time.

So I wonder who the other team's may contribute...........don't be fooled.........this is NOT about bad players, it is about the misconceptions and the poor judgement of one-eyed fans everywhere.

I'll field the first question.

Raymond for every team:

Designations: 1. NHLer who was drafted by the team in question 2. Is fairly fast. 3. Has so-so scoring ability 4. Is fairly non-intimidating

Boston: Vlad Sobotka

TO: Viktor Stalberg

Buffalo: Nathan Gerbe

Montreal: Matt D'agostini

Ottawa: Peter Regin

Pittsburgh: Richard Park

Philly: Justin Williams?

NYR: Nigel Dawes

NYI: Blake Comeau

NJ: Nick Bergfors

Washington: Eric Fehr

Carolina: Zach Boychuk

Florida: Evgeny Dadonov

TB: Nikita Alexeev

Winnipeg/Atlanta : Alex Burmistrov

Calgary: Matt Lombardi

Edmonton: Sam Gagner

Minnesota: Benoit Pouliot

Colorado: Woitek Wolski

Chicago: Jack Skille

Detroit: Darren Helm

St. Louis: Lee Stempniak

Nashville: Mike Santorelli

Columbus: Derek Brassard

Anaheim: Matt Cullen

Dallas: Antti Miettinen

Phoenix: Mikkel Boedker

LA: Jeff Tambellini

SJ: Devin Setoguchi

A lot of those guys have moved on from their drafted teams.

It's not that they're 'bad', but for the most part, it's because they're injury-prone.

If they play a run 'n gun style with so-so success and they're relatively small compared to NHL defenders, then odds are they're going to be crushed eventually. That's what happened to Raymond and a lot of the guys on the list.

When you look at Booth's transformation since coming here, it's like they told him 'Hey, you continue playing that way and it's only a matter of time before you get massively concussed again.' He's gone from one-dimensional speedster to psuedo-power foward. Or at least he's less likely to go up the middle of the ice with his head down.

That's nice, but Burmistrov isn't/won't be all that great (Atlanta/Winnipeg doesn't have a lot of draft options to choose from anyway), and Helm just got hammered twice last season after seeing an increased role. Both are their respective teams' closest comparables at the moment, imo.

I don't know if you really know much about either of these guys, but comparing them to Raymond is an insult.

Helm is a fan favourite in Detroit, and is arguably one of the best 3rd line centres in the league.

Burmistrov is a promising young player, who is already playing a solid checking line role, and has the potential to be one of the games better two-way forwards. He also isn't really a speedster, he is just a genuinely good skater.

I agree with most of the people on the list, but these guys do not deserve it.
