Benning is gonna grab some completely off the radar guy like Baertschi, Gudbranson, & Etem were. 

We won't even know they're available then all of a sudden we get em.

He's done it a few times now and he'll do it again.

I think we are all afraid of an albatross contract that you struggle with years later, but for every one of Alexander Semin contracts there is a Marian Hossa contract.  

Don't forget that the Canucks (unfortunately) now provide the easiest way to make it into the NHL.  We had part-time janitors filling in last year.  Signing one big UFA will not have a big effect there and is further reason for it instead of getting a bunch of smaller UFAs who will clog up development.

Not that Chicago is gonna regret signing it, but it's not a great example in this case.  Hossa is not gonna play until he's 42 and they are gonna be stuck with his cap hit plus the re-capture.  Although, It is a good example of how signing a 'bad contract' can be totally worth it.  If we get 5 good years out Erikssen, and then two bad ones, that's probably not the end of the world.  At least we got the player.

We really need a stop gap between the Twins and until some of the young guys can move up to the top 6. Not tryouts like Hansen and Burrows buy true top liners with hopefully some grit.
