Matt_T83 Posted October 4, 2018 Share Posted October 4, 2018 I agree it was a hit to the head, and he has a history, so he should get 5-10 games, but this is getting ridiculous. There's no blame being put on Sundqvist, who in my opinion bears some of the responsibility for the hit. We shouldn't be allowing players to skate head down into the middle of the ice, handling the puck. If you do that, you should expect to get your head taken off. It's high time the referees start penalizing players for putting themselves in vulnerable positions to begin with. These days, when a player has the puck on the boards, they just turn away from the hit. If we continue to assess penalties and suspensions for boarding, when the other player clearly turns away, we just encourage this gutless behavior. The choice should be 1) dump the puck or 2) turn and face the hit like a man. Hockey is so boring now because it's so difficult to make a big, clean hit, unless you're gigantic and use brute strength like Chara or Big Buff.
