Eduard Khil, known to most Western audiences as Internet star “Mr. Trololo,” died early Monday in St. Petersburg after suffering a stroke in April. He was 77.

Khil, a baritone who was popular in the 1960s and '70s in what was then the Soviet Union, received a number of awards during his career, including the People’s Artist of Russia honor, but it wasn’t until a 1976 TV performance surfaced online in late 2009 and hit big in early 2010 that he enjoyed international fame.

Yeah, I saw that yesterday, was sorry to hear it.
One of the small positives being that he was able to at least enjoy an additional 15 minutes of fame for what he had done.

Unfortunately, I believe Mr. Khil felt he was being mocked by his international audience, as the attention surrounding his song had increased quite suddenly and without any legitimate reason. Initially, he was genuinely joyful about the song's ability to reach a new audience and bring people happiness. The very nature of how the song is used in today's culture, however, is to mock others and cause mischief. By extension, it could have been an insult to him as well. To many, he represents a group he may not have wanted anything to do with. I do not see how it would be appealing to be identified with online troublemakers.

Khil's son Dmitry, also a musician, says his dad doesn't really know what the Internet is and suspects all this newfound attention is some kind of joke.

"He thinks maybe someone is trying to make a fool of him," says Dmitry. "He keeps asking, 'Where were all these journalists 40 years ago?'"

It's a shame. Hopefully, he can rest in peace without such feelings hovering over him.

RIP Eduard Khil.

**RETIRED...**

"Have not those who disbelieve known that the heavens & the earth were joined together as one united piece, then We (Allah) parted them? And We have made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?" (Qur'an 21:30)

Sig too big, images removed. - SN

"Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure--one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.” (David Rockefeller)
