Happy Canada Day!

Happy 145th, Canada. You are truly the greatest country in the world... and I'm so proud to call myself Canadian. You're home to the most patriotic people on the entire planet, and the friendliest... Eh?!

Hopefully we'll see some of this tomorrow... Just absolutely beautiful! This video sends shivers down my spine. O Canada!

No Canada Day is complete without the obligatory KC Parks post:

Happy Canada Day.

Speaking of which, many people considered The Maple Leaf Forever to be Canada's de facto national anthem throughout the late-1800s and early-twentieth century. The song was written in 1867, the year of Confederation -- Canada's birth as a country. Unfortunately, much of French Canada protested the very pro-English lyrics. It wasn't until 100 years later, in 1967, that O Canada became Canada's official national anthem.

Of course, it is still held dear to Canada's heart, as it is played every Canada Day when the Canadian flag is raised on Parliament Hill.

I personally like the melody of The Maple Leaf Forever and feel with a few adjustments and by reducing it to a single verse, it could have been a very strong anthem for this country. Much of English Canada considered it to be the national anthem prior to 1967. If played by an orchestra, I think it would sound just terrific. O Canada is still, however, a fantastic anthem for this country.

CBC held a contest to re-write the lyrics in 1997. I don't really like that revision at all.

Anyway, enjoy Canada Day, everybody!

Happy Canada Day CDC. We don't all always see eye to eye. But I think we can all agree to a degree on one thing: Beer.

I don't think any Canada Day is complete without this Gordon Lightfoot classic. Commissioned by the CBC for the Canadian Centennial in 1967, this song has become iconic and a part of Canada's culture.

Happy Canada everyone! Unfortunately, I have to work today, but that brings me to a question? Do I get time and a half today because it is July 1st or is the holiday technically tomorrow?

Anyhow, I plan on celebrating afterwards, we're all so blessed to live in such a great place!
