Calling in sick to work

Good job, GD!

I, too, have never called in sick at my current job...had to use a week of holidays (they don't believe in those, either, but I set that one straight pretty quick!) when my daughter was in ER last year.

I can't afford to be sick, as I lose the day's pay. Which is a really dumb system because, in the end, you DO go to work sick and infect everyone around you in the process. Everyone should have a set amount of (paid) sick days in my mind. I believe they have a pretty good system in Germany?

It's not like you plan illness....it happens. The only reason to feel guilty is if you make it a habit to miss work. But, for legitimate illness - no.

I was on the last Friday of vacation once when my Mom collapsed at work and was rushed to ER (brain aneurysm). They had to operate on the weekend and the surgeon was straight with us - telling us she had to have the surgery for any chance of survival, but it was 50/50 she'd make it. She did, but suffered a stroke during the operation.

I called in Monday morning after spending the entire weekend, sleepless, at St. Pauls Hospital. My boss' response? "Great, you've just finished 2 weeks of holidays and I need you back here". What a tool...thanks for caring, boss.

lol, i had to google that before I remembered the movie.

But i'm not unbreakable. i didn't say i've never been sick, just that I've never called in sick. I can only remember maybe a handful of times in my life where I've been really sick, worst was when I was in grade 6, gave myself food poisoning from eating under cooked chicken. that was messy.

I just don't seem to get sick enough that I even notice it much. Though I have incapacitated other people with my germs lol
