I looked back three or four pages and I didn't see a thread for this game. I just saw a commercial for it and wondered if anybody's heard about it/going to get it? That was the first time I've heard about it.

The launch trailer, if anyones interested. Game looks phenomenal in graphics, gameplay, characters, basically every important thing.

I remember Farcry 2 was pretty fun (for some reason it had absolute nothing to do with the first game...) but it was buggy as hell.

The commercial did look good. Pretty sure I read one review saying it was like a cross between Farcry and Assassins Creed or something like that.

And Far Cry 3 has nothing to do with Far Cry 2. But it does look like a lot of fun. A lot of the promos from earlier in the year, including the one from E3, they really failed to convey the nature of the game. But once I took an actual look at the gameplay, and what it all entailed I decided to buy it.

Giant open world full of crazy and awesome characters. I was sold.

Yeah, that part got me too! :P

I had a lot of fun with FC2, I was always trying out different weapons combinations and tactics.

The whole idea of a multifaceted approach to your situations appears to be there in a large way. But it's a case of having to play the game to judge for myself on how they deliver these promises. I can say I think the odds are it will do the job well.

yeah, i watched some gameplay and reviews (came out yesterday for people in australia) and looks really good. Don't know what to do, because i just bought BO2 4 days ago and don't want to get a game until GTAV. I will probably put an ad on kijiji and sell it for $50 (got a warranty so the new owner could say it doesnt work and get a new one for free)

From what i saw it has a mix of many games:
Dead Island's customization
Just cause 2 Tropical paridise
Elder Scrolls questing and free roam (90% of what you see you can get to)
Assassins Creed you can choose from going stealth to gun blazing

I heard something on the comercial comparing it to Red Dead Redemption. I LOVED that game.

Yeah, that's what caught my attention on the commercial, I wasn't really watching it then I hear something about Red Dead and I was at full attention, ha ha!

I loved Red Dead too!

I'm installing the game right now. Didn't realize the Indian release shared the same date as the European one. I'll probably be playing it for the next few hours, and I'll share some initial thoughts.

It has been really good so far. It's most definitely a case of where if you think you will like it, you will totally like it.

Right off the bat the give you a taste of everything. The acting and character animation is brilliant. There's a load of side quests and objectives to go try out. The environment is beautiful. The world is large, and exploration is encouraged. The hunting is fun. The driving works well. Stealth mechanics work well. Gun mechanics are a bit bland in a Call of Duty kind of way, but when you're busy mowing down an enemy camp it's hard to care.

I think most importantly with regards to the main story, I really want to get out there and save my friends. Whatever it is about the game, it's really easy to get into it. I have yet to try the multiplayer, so I can't comment on that. But at this moment I really don't care, because the single player has me busy.

So I'm very much enjoying my time with the game, and I would recommend it to anyone. One thing though is that my PC has a very hard time running this game. Low settings, mediums setting, it doesn't matter as the frame rate is always tanking. I hope it's just an optimization issue they will patch up, but as of now it's making it much harder for me to play the game than it should.

Nice, sounds like I'm gonna have to buy it now!

Is there things to find? Like in FC2 there was the diamond cases, is there anything like that in this game?
Stealth works, eh? If I remember correctly the stealth in FC2 was very hit and miss.
Whats that about hunting? Are you talking hunting people or like Red Dead, you can go out and hunt animals, hunting?

- There are different collectibles and all scattered across the land, yeah. But they're secondary to all the random questing in terms of side objectives.
- Yeah the stealth works well. I Don't think I've had one issue where I was found when I shouldn't have been. If you come in with a bow and arrow and do your job properly, you can pick everyone off without anyone being the wiser.
- Hunting animals. You need to hunt them for their pelts. Or you may need to hunt a specific animal for a quest. Or you may just need to fight one off before it kills you, as they attack you during your random exploring. There are a variety of different species, and some are obviously deadlier than others.

Absolutely phenomenal game.

Graphics:

This game is just gorgeous. Models, textures, lighting effects, animations, everything, this game is just so polished. The animations for speech and facial movements are incredible. Everything looks very realistic.

If your PC can handle everything on max with DX11, good lord is it ever beautiful.

Gameplay:

Right off the bat you get a taste of how stealth works. You have to pay attention to line of sight, using cover, using vegetation and distraction to stealth around. Great stuff. It is possible to be stealthy and work your way around a camp without anybody realizing, if you do it right, as g_bassi said.

I like the mixture of different elements. There is of course the combat, but the crafting part of the game is interesting, as well as how the map works. The game is completely free-form. You can go wherever you want, and have to clear out pirates and capture camps and strongholds in order to control certain areas of the map to make it safe for you and your allies to travel.

Story:

I've not gotten too far into the story yet (and won't say where I am to not spoil anything), but so far from what I can tell, the story has been solid. The characters are extremely well done, and the voice acting and everything has been great so far.

Verdict:

GET THIS GAME! Support Ubisoft Montreal, as they've honestly come out with one hell of a game.

This game truly lives up to the whole "it's like Skyrim with guns" line. This game, like Jai said, is absolutely amazing! I've done 2 main story missions then I got side tracked exploring and doing side missions. I can't say enough good things about this game, just play it, rent it if you have to but just play it, you won't be disappointed.

I'm not sure if this is a spoiler or not but I'll put it in one anyway, don't open unless you have spent sufficient time swimming rivers or you just don't care.

Spoiler

I'll pick this game up on the 15th when my credit card rolls over. I've already spent too much on this billing cycle. I've got a coupon code to get $20 off from Future Shop, so that's good seeing as how expensive this game is.

$50 bucks is cheaper than most new-releases. Most new games (big budget games) are $60. Farcry 3 is worth it, the game is phenomenal.
