pwnstar
Associated Press 2/15/2013 1:37:10 PM NEW YORK -- Two days of talks between the NHL and Olympic officials wrapped up on Friday with some signs of progress toward a resolution on the issue of having the league send its players to the 2014 Sochi Games. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and International Ice Hockey Federation President Rene Fasel met for about 2.5 hours on Friday after a 90-minute get-together Thursday night. No new talks were immediately scheduled, but the sides are expected to meet again. NHL players have participated in the past four Olympic Games, and the league is weighing whether it gets enough return on its overall investment, which requires North American hockey to shut down its season for over two weeks to take part. As Bettman and Fasel headed to lunch Friday, the commissioner said the meetings were productive, but added that both sides have work to do before an agreement can be reached. RUPERTKBD
Good to hear. Once again, the fear-mongering that takes place on sports news shows, proves to be overblown. In an interview earlier this week, Fasel suggested that "egos" on the NHL side were the stumbling block preventing an agreement. Of course, every sports panel in the nation immediately chimed in with the opinion that the statement had damaged the process. Looks like they were wrong, as usual. SkeeterHansen
Whoa. It's like all they had to do was change "NHLPA" to "Olympic officials" and "Donald Fehr" to "Rene Fasel"...the rest of it is just a reprint from the lockout negotiations in November
MrsCanuck
Olympics are meant for a place of gathering of the worlds greatest athletes. It's wrong to not have NHL Players there. Hope we'll be seeing many NHL'ers in Russia!
