Just wanted to say I think they are onto something with this. He looked great playing rover tonight. I think his value in this role as well as backup left defence man in the playoffs in caese of injuries faaaar outweighs the return he will bring us at the deadline. He has the speed n toughness to look great with out other speedy skaters, and he can play as fancy as his heart desires. Thoughts?

Not likely to be a good line^ but I think he was better then 4th line I saw him on. I'd like to see him playing with Kessler actually. Could u imagine a Ballard/Kessler/Hansen or kassian checking line . Mean

A lot of people seem to like Ballard, but there's too much attention for the role he has on the team, especially since AV isn't going to give him a decent chance such as the PP.

I still remember when they used Rome as a forward over ballard... i hope if he plays again next game as a forward he gets one in the net he has had some great chances..

Who said the guy needs pp time? Give him a role his tools suit. 2nd/3rd liner shouldn't be that hard if he can play d already. We all know Alberts/barker is not a bad option as 6th d man since we needa righty.he seems to have a forwards hockey sense over dman skills, so just Let the man play as he's paid.

Pretty good! Like him much better than any other current 3rd and 4th liners so far. Apart from Burrows of course.

Love it he should be there permanently unless there is an injury to one of our key let side defenders.

Depends on how you look at it.

Keith Ballard is not important enough on defense to play forward versus Keith Ballard has the upside to play forward.

Tanev + barker were so shaky this game. Good thing that most of their shifts were with ballard/burrow/ebbett.

Ballard seems to enjoy his time as a forward.
He's finishing his checks, going hard on the forecheck, doing what a winger is supposed to do.
He looks really solid out there...... outta the doghouse for you Bally ;)

I don't think he has the shot for the twins like and is a bit small. His speed would also be wasted

oh you guys :)

I really have been impressed with Ballard's play since he got moved up to LW. I think if he can get better shots on net he may actually be a good fit.

I don't get this Ballard love. He's an ok defenceman but all this love for him as a forward? He seems to get outworked for every puck and seems to get hit really easily

Because switching on a dime from defence to forward and back at the NHL level is easy, right? Seriously, give the guy some credit for admirably filling in when the team needed him.

I think people like him at forward because he is aggressive, willing to work hard to generate chances offensively, and has shown flashes of offensive creativity. The fact that he can play his game more at forward than he ever can at defence really says it all about the coaching of this team though.

He must be having fun.
He also makes one hell of a shutdown depth forward, who is also pretty damn good on the forecheck, can really handle himself on the boards, and it can't hurt always having a 7th blueliner in the lineup in the event of injury, misconducts, etc.
Guy is versatile, and that was a pretty sweet dangle he put on the Yotes when he beat Smith on the backhand and was denied by the post - would have been too much to ask for him to convert that one.

This. This right here!!! That's exactly why I like him. Plus he can obviously also play D very well but some pressure is taken off of him to be able to go out there and be offensive.
