Really brutal news. Grew up on this forum. Started here in 2013 and visited this site every day since. Every damn day. When shit wasn't going great this was a place to come and get distracted. As a diehard fan, being able to get so much knowledge from other passionate fans was amazing.
Big thank you to everyone, from the homers to the haters this place was nothing short of a blast

Great choice. Ultra competitive, leads by example, and wants to win. Guys will respond well to a cap like that. Looking forward to this new era.

15 minutes ago, Strawbone said:I was shocked how little I missed having Horvat on the team after he was traded. I thought they actually looked like a stronger team without him. I had this idea in my head that it was so important to have Horvat on the team to take faceoffs and play the tough match-ups, but I do now think he was over-rated (not bad, just over-rated) and nowhere near worth an 8x8.5 deal.
I'll tell you that for free!
Because Horvat accepted losing. Horvat most nights was out there playing it safe and never once brought any physicality/toughness. Nights when we were down 4-1 or 5-1 he could have fought and sent the team a message or at least presented a nasty side. Instead, he would just go out for a skate and then say postgame "we weren't good enough tonight". All post game interviews sounded the same for 5 losing seasons.
Players see the guy at the top and if they see him padding his stats, playing soft/not standing up for teammates and cheating the game what do you think they will do? Once ownership got rid of the problem our mindset of "losing is acceptable" changed to losing won't be tolerated any longer. There is a reason management put their money on JT Miller and not Horvat. They knew JT was the real leader in that room. Whether he ends up with the "C"or not, Miller will still be a vocal player that will drag the team into the fight. Something Horvat showed he wasn't capable of doing.

Then what is impressive..? Sub par return for Horvat, somewhat balanced by an arguably high cost to aquire the uncertainty of Hronek. What am I missing?
OEL buyout? Recent depth signings? If I was looking for a word to describe PA's dealing this past year, I think I'd lean toward "meh".
Or maybe Horvat was overvalued as a player. He wasn't great defensively and was padding his stats at the end. His play came back to reality when he went to NYI. Thank god we never signed that boat anchor contract. He'll be lucky to ever put up 60 PTS again

It’s all about pairings. We can’t load up too much on one line which is why I think we’ll see:
Kuzmenko Pettersson Beauvillier
Garland Miller Boeser
Podkolzin Suter Mikheyev
Joshua Blueger Hoglander
Hughes Hronek
Cole Soucy
Brisebois Myers
I like this lineup but I would switch Mikheyev and Garland.
Also I wonder if they send Hoglander down and put either Aman or more likely PDG in that spot. Cant see Tocc losing his favourite player in PDG.
Only other thing I could see is Hronek on second pair with Soucy. Otherwise Hughes-Hronek will be playing 30 minutes because those other pairs worry me.

So it looks like Cal Foote, Jonah Gadjovich, Brett Howden, Maxime Comtois and Alex Formenton are the 5 guys still unsigned from the 2018 team. My bet is Alex Formenton is the guy that picked up the girl and brought her to the hotel. The others may have been the ones in the room and either watched or got involved as well.
Just speculation only, but perhaps teams have been given a heads up as to the players on the hot seat...
EDIT: I believe there were 8 guys in total in the room, so at this point who knows for sure...
Gadjovich I believe came out and said he had no part in anything, or his agent did on his behalf. Also Gadj was in a long term relationship at the time.

Wow good for Schenn. Miss him already

SJS likely wants Myers for Future Considerations so they can sell him at the TDL for a 2nd. Canucks management actually wants assets in return for our players so no wonder the trade hasn't gone down. Either that or the Canucks are waiting to see who they can sign July 1, and if they can get the D they like. Once that is sorted out I could see them executing this trade.

Thought for sure we wouldn't pass on Benson, but I am not upset about this pick at all. He seems like a great kid who likes the Canucks and wants to prove them right. Good attitude and is ready get to work. Hope he develops into a solid player for us!

If they don't take Benson they are clearly going for positional need. no way they have another player rated higher that is left

Benson there if we want him.

Damn it. I knew it. Someone is going to take Simashev with all the chatter about him being the best defenseman in the draft.
Willander might be gone. Sighs.
Pefect if Willander is gone same with ASP. Canucks get a top end forward and TBH I'm not sold on Willander and ASP

Keep it coming. A good forward will fall!!!!

11. Nate Danielson
This is pretty much how I see it playing out. Switch Smith and Carlsson and then Reinbacher and Benson and I think thats the list. I think we take Danielson over Willander and Simashev. Even though I would like Simashev.

There has been absolutely nothing on the Canucks trade front. You have to respect the teams ability to keep things in house. Sucks for the fans but it's dang impressive and should help us in deals. (compared to us all knowing what Benning was doing before he did it)
