  1. I love the idea of a Linden, Benning, Quinn, Gilman regime. I run the risk of liking guys from the past too much, however it seems like a great combination to me.
  2. Linden starts with an apology....great job Trev.
  3. Not sure if aquaman has Thanked Gillis enough? lol
  4. "I just met John Tortorella today for the first time."
  5. Well, we can call it a band-aid solution, or a PR move, however I already feel better about the Canucks future than I did yesterday. A position as president means that he can hand over the day to day hockey stuff to a GM with some experience. I am not expecting any miracles next season, however I am already more optimistic. And Linden just belongs with the Canucks.
  6.     It's hard not to be skeptical right now. While I like Lack, our goaltending is very much in question. We lack scoring and heart. The Sedins will be another year older. Torts, at least for now, appears to be staying, and the GM is a question mark.
  7. Here we go with knee jerk again..... Not making the playoffs, 2 goalie controversies, the wrong coach, the use of the media...eesh, hard to consider firing him a knee-jerk in my opinion.
  8.     Fair enough, however that team that went to the cup had alot of parts from the previous regime. I think what hurt GM is all of the PR stuff. I don't think it is a knee jerk reaction to fire someone who hired a coach that stormed another teams dressing room, two goalie controversies, poor handling of the media....fans remember that stuff.
  9. Feaster at least has a Stanley Cup on his resume....
  10.     You are not the first to use the term "knee-jerk." What is so jerkish about it? Even if we speculate that he has drafted well, there is so much that reaks of unprofessionalism.
  11.     Yes, unfortunately those of us who said this at the beginning of the season were met with lots of flack. I would never wish a bad season on the Canucks, however if anything this past season was validating for those of us who were skeptical.
  12. I think it was the right move. Fans were getting sick of ongoing goalie controversies, picking the wrong coach, and a lack of offense. Time for some new blood.
  13. The whole captain thing is another issue. The easy answer is to give the C to Kelser, however for some reason he had his A taken away and I would like to know more about that.
  14.     You are probably right, however I still think he would be a bit of an upgrade. Not that Torts doesn't have more coaching knowledge, I just think he has lost the team.
  15. Hmmm, Linden as coach. I have to admit that I never considered that, however he would probably get alot of respect back from the players.
  16. I would rather get an experienced NHL GM this time around. No offence to Linden, however I would want Linden to get some experience first. An assistant GM role with the Canucks would be fine with me though!
  17. Mr. Gillis, why not wait until the season is over to say what you said. Sigh, with that, and with Torts storming the Flames dressing room, it has become a gong show here.
  18. I like Lack too, I just think it would have been wise to have kept Luongo until at least the end of the season to help mentor the guy and take some pressure off of him. We are left with a back up the coach himself says is "not ready." I conisder this goalie controversy #3 in the last two years! I really don't understand how Luongo goes from being untradeable to all of sudden tradeable. As for the team, everyone has pretty much said my thoughts already, however I will say the owners of this team also need to look at their role. Gillis maybe a good GM or a bad GM, however if he is being told what to do by his owners, then some of this stuff may not be his fault.
  19. My reaction? Not sure if the Canucks are in trouble or not. -Luongo, who was supposed to be our goalie to lead us to the play offs this year gets traded. Why wait until just after the heritage classic to do it? If it is a trade made simply out of a PR move then that is just plain wrong. -I think that Kesler's value was highest right now. Why would any team offer more in the summer or on draft day considering that will be one less playoff run they will get out of him? -Let's not forget that Kesler is injury prone. If he gets hurt between now and the end of the season what will that do to his value? -All these stories of the owners calling shots is also troubling. I guess we will see how things turn out however since the heritage classic and the Luongo trade I have soured on the Canucks a bit.
  20. I am curious, when has such a situation ever happened with an NHL coach?I just want to add to my own opinion that it seems like nobody learned from the Schnieder/Luongo situation and that is what's most frustrating. I can understand a mistake was made the first time, but a 2cnd? If I were the owner I would have a hard time putting up with that.
  21. It is hard to be a Canucks fan sometimes; give up a 2 goal lead, and a new goaltender controversy started. I really like Lack and we are lucky to have him, however I have no idea what Torts was thinking starting him in a game like that, especially considering the Canucks goaltending history. I wanted to feel really excited yesterday and by the end I almost felt like giving up on this team.
  22. Well it appears that those who wanted Torts have got him. I still feel it is a big gamble on the Canucks part, and I would love to know how much of a role ownership played in this decision. Also, Gillis has got a lot of work to do otherwise it won't matter who the coach here is. Best of luck to us Canuck fans and to the team. The next few years will be interesting to say the least.
  23. I typically don't respond to posts that have insults in them however as it appears you don't understand what I mean here goes;- I didn't mean the Sedins would just pick up and leave, however after doing their jobs for so long too much negativity, punative approaches to player discipline can lead to a lack of motivation, not increase it - you are right in that lots of the reputation the canucks have developed with refs is based on what the players have done, however referees aren't stupid, they know who supports the players, and who tells them how to handle certain situations. Any NHL coach studies the referees and tries to react accordingly. Some are good at it, others just blow their stacks and get into an antoginizing relationship with them. Yes, tuning out or tuning in is key. Sure, that could apply to any coach, however who are players more likely to listen too, someone who tries to inspire performance, or someone who tries to beat it out of players? In terms of the "gamble" I talk about, there is also the issue of attracting players/free agents to the Canucks. Do you think this has become easier or harder now?
  24. There is certainly no way any of fans can know all of the facts. Gillis also said that there wasn't a lot to trade for despite, Jagr, Iginla, etc moving on or prior to the deadline. Roy, who is solid, has a history of not being able to score in the playoffs. Interesting gamble when team offence was a problem. Lots of this rests on Gillis's shoulders. I just feel that with any coaching hire you have to way the pros and cons, and with Torts there are a lot more cons than pros. That being said only time will tell if it was a good decision or not.
