I don't care about stats or who is the top line in the league, the main concern is the TEAM play and WINS. Not to mention your stats are based on a small sample size of stats who knows, maybe this trio becomes better then the latter. "Control is good and all"? Some say that is pretty important in hockey.

Well... Sorry to burst your bubble but... They matter. And the Lotto Line is the 2nd best in the NHL in that regard.

How do you think you win games? By out scoring your opponent, and that's what the lotto line does.

I liked how Jake looked out there with that top line. He's got more jam down low and more speed.

If Boeser and Gaudette can get some chemistry fired up, it'll be a similar line to the first, with Roussel playing the speedy jammer along the wall / net front guy. It'd break my heart to see 3 lines scoring that are more difficult to score on. Sutter in for Schaller on the 4th worked really well.

The second line is clearly humming. Leave it alone entirely. Eriksson in particular is playing the most inspired period of hockey (the last 15-20 games) that he has as a Canuck since signing. He's putting plays together that lead to points, and not just the empty netters. And even on those empty netters, it means that line has the puck in an out-numbered situation and puts the game away. Far cry from 3-4 years ago when every 6 on 5 ended up with the puck in our net.

Really interesting take on the line switch ups.

its a perfect fit. Tanev's skating isn't what it once was, but that doesn't matter since Hughes is doing most of the skating, and Chris is a smart veteran partner to be there when Hughes messes up. Its ideal for this year anyway.

I disagree. I think Tanev has a really great first 3 steps. He doesn't have the top speed but his first few steps are really strong and quick

From 2008 to 2012, Eriksson scored 118 goals in 325 games. That's 0.363 goals-per-game, which equals an average of 29.77 goals in 82 games.

So you're right, he wasn't a consistent 30-goal scorer. He was a consistent 29.77-goal scorer.

    But I'm not wrong

Loui is not the player he once was but don’t forget he used to consistently put up 30 goals and 70 points a season, without ever being a flashy play driver. He got all those goals mainly by being smart and at the right place at the right time.

Buried on a gritty, blue collar 4th line getting 5-10 min a game he’s never gonna put up numbers, though he’ll still do a professional job. With Bo on the second line at least he’s got the opportunity and lo and behold, he’s not doing too bad.

Don’t know why people on here have such a grudge against Loui. Seems like a nice fellow. Not his fault the Canucks gave him a big contract. And he’s a hockey player, he wants to play hockey,

Never in his career has he been a consistent 30 goal scorer. Hes just never been this bad

not sure if this has been posted already, but Brock has changed his shooting style as you say: https://www.vancourier.com/pass-it-to-bulis/brock-boeser-is-taking-far-fewer-wrist-shots-in-2019-20-than-in-past-seasons-1.24046830

he's actually close to the same pace in goals per game as last year but his assists per game are way up: https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/b/boesebr01.html

That wrister is still there, its just used less often and he's opened up more ways of contributing.

He uses his wrist shot to open up other players.

The goals are just more spread this season with JT Miller on the line. Brocks having an outstanding season.

tkachuk is a disgusting weasel type of player.  Total boarding call even though the pathetic refs once again screw up the call.  I hope tkachuk gets hit by a bus.....that would just be karma imo.

Edit: even ratface marchand would at least answer the bell after a dirty hit....pathetic....tkapuke does the best 'turtle' impression I have ever seen.

Edit: fair enough...it was a clean hit.  I still hate tkaturtle and hope karma comes calling. The kid is a weasel that cheap shots and then turtles....a dbag just like his father only not as tough.

Clean hit, but Tkachuk got ragdolled by Kassian... And I enjoyed that a lot

"Gillis ran this ship in to the ground"

Then you list the prospects he was collecting late in rounds while winning presidents trophies and making a cup final.  Not to mention 2010-2012 were fairly weak drafts.

When Gillis got fired this team was worse than abysmal. It was being propped up by the Sedins and good goal tending

  9. 1 hour ago, Borvat said:

Yes over what a 5 +/- game stretch :)  What about the other 3+ years prior and the the 2 that will follow this one.  It does matter how much his cap hit is and it will matter more in the next year or two as the youngin's need to get their $$$.

I am truly happy if Loui is happy.  Never wanted him or his family sad. Just didn't want him on the Canuck's based on his level of play - especially for how much of the cap he was absorbing.  I don't feel bad about that. Fans are permitted to critique players right?

I still don't think he is the right player for the second line at a $6 Million dollar cap hit at 35 years of age with 2 years left after this one based on his level of play along with younger players needed for their ELC's.  Even Tyler Motte would look better on Bo's wing and he has earned an opportunity.

If he is playing well a genuine kudos to Loui.  Maybe he plays himself into a tradeable asset and everyone wins.  Go Loui Go!

Mottes been a statistical nightmare this season.

Our fourth line has been one of the worst in the NHL. But ya... Demote the guy performing because you can't get over his prior play, and then promote the guy who is getting out played almost every deployment.

  10. 11 hours ago, Fred65 said:

Like every one else Brackett likely enjoys the idea of promotion and if Vcr doesn't attend to his needs some other team will. He's building a solid reputation and will attract attention. I'm unaware of his contract status but Vcr best pay attention to him or they may live to regret it

Okay so fire the first time GM who worked his way up as an AGM and scout, and hire the scout turned into would-be rookie GM?

JB made some mistakes but he has also built a pretty solid team here so far. When Jimbo got here the Canucks had a top 10 prospect list of

    Horvat

    Shinkaruk

    Corrado

    Jensen

    Gaunce

    Subban

    Tommernes

    Labate

    McNally

    Who cares

We had Dalpe, Diaz, Ballard, Booth, Sestito, Schroeder, Garrison all on the regular roster...

Now think of who we have in our line up and who we have down the pipe. This man literally rebuilt this entire franchise from scratch starting as a rookie GM. If the Canucks make playoffs he'll be in the running for GM of the year.

There are teams that would hire JB. That tells you all you need to know. Mike Gillis ran this ship so hard into the ground he still hasn't got another shake, and like Chia pet, he probably never will.

He also said Goldy would score 20 goals two years ago.  As I stated earlier I think Igor Larionov has been hitting the Marijuanov and is seriously overvaluing his clients players.

I think Podz will be a great player but I don't see him being anything like Messier aside from occasionally wearing #11.

    Would vs focused

Quit taking things out of context to fit a narrative.

    Larionov knows his s***

Drunk, for certain.  However I’m right on Bahl.  Guy isn’t quick enough for the NHL.  His hockey career is over after a couple years in the AHL.  Woo, on the other hand, will be in the N.hL for 15 to 20 years.  Thank ?God we didn’t waste our pick on a piece of crap, like

Bahl.  For the Posters who prefer ?Bahl to Eoo, you can go Troll elsewhere.  You are not true Canuck’s fans.

I think I like Woo better, but Bahl is big and mean. He can skate too. I think sometimes people just assume big guys aren't fast because of their long stride.

I don't think Bahl plays shut down D for team Canada if he couldn't skate.

Markstrom is the undisputed number one goalie in this town.

The Canucks have worked very hard to up their goaltending game since acquiring Luongo.

    Luongo

    Miller

    Markstrom

    Goalie coach: Ian Clark ;)

We've had two of the best goalie coaches of this generation. That's definitely helped.

Though I think Miller didn't work out with Rollie, and went back to his aggressive style

Such an easy thing to say, yet almost impossible to do.  Or...say bye to some draft picks or prospects.

NHL 20 I had to package him with a 1st to even get an offer and it was a 4th and a 5th from LA

Ended up doing Eriksson Lind 1st for Duclair Ennis

    Even cpus don't want him

A group of us watch the games and we have just been dying  lately whenever  Canucks have power plays.  The  guys seem to be  wasting the whole time  passing, passing, and passing. When the team started up  last year they would just shoot those nice hard shots. Now, not so much !  Let's get back to those shots on the net ! JUST SHOOT !

Also..................we really missed seeing Trevor Linden at the  festivities

No team has scored more power play goals. We are 4th for PP%. You and your friends apparently need to learn hockey before you criticize it.

This is why we need downvotes. Enough of these safe spaces.

    My biases:

I’m not as rosy glassed about Canucks prospects as many fans are.

    My opinions:

So far this season Boeser developed into a well rounded winger that can defend and win puck battles. He is not strong and quick as Miller. He is not as good of a passer as Pettersson. He prefers slowing down the plays rather than moving his feet and create openings. He is often the weakest link on PP1 making poor passes, fail to get the puck on net or fail to move his feet.

Boeser should learn from Horvat that he should be moving his feet constantly to create time and space for himself as well as his linemates. I am somewhat concerned that his preference for slowing down plays may originate from a lack of skill. You may play fast in NCAA but NHL speed may overwhelm you.

On the top line, Boeser is the slowest player both physically and mentally. This is why Virtanen had some shifts on the top line. I predict that Boeser will become faster in the next 2 seasons. In contrast, we know that Horvat has already peaked in terms of his speed.

This fan is so hard to listen to sometimes. Just always need a whipping boy, eh?
