On our team, if we kept Bo, with the rise of Petey Bo falls to the 3C role. He would play PK and take important Dzone draws. But he’s not ahead of Petey and Miller. That’s why we traded Bo. We traded from a position of strength to upgrade a position of weakness, top four D. Sure Miller could move to wing, but that isn’t what we wanted to do. We offered Bo 3C dollars. Just over 5 per.
I like the Bo trade personally. It WOULD be nice to have the luxury of playing Miller with Petey (and Kuzy) again though. Hoping Raty works out and sooner rather than later.

...and that's 150 points for McDavid. Two more goals this year and he matches Ovechkin's career high. His total would already easily be Ovechkin's second best goal scoring year by a healthy margin.
It’s wild to think about.
The last time anyone hit these kinds of numbers was when Gretzky and Lemieux were the dominating forces in the league.

Well there it is!
McDavid has hit 150! Unreal. I thought those kinds of numbers were relegated to my childhood and earlier.- 1

Smart simple plays.
That out off the glass was one example.
Haha! Have you ever re-watched game 7 against Calgary in 1994? Jim Peplinski keeps talking about "the simple plays that we've been talking about all night" but literally only he ever mentioned it. Nobody but him was talking about "simple plays".
My dad and I always found it hilarious for whatever reason. You drug up a random memory for me. lol

It’s the cheering against us during the game that isn’t true fan behaviour. IMHAO that’s strange. Kind of shows a lack of true fandom’s wanting their club to win.
Yeah I kinda agree with this. Game time me is a different person from every other time me. lol
I get excited and cheer every time they score. Then I look at the standings after the game and... you know.

I hear you, but the fact is geography does play a role in Rivalries. Seattle and Van will have a rivalry if for no other reason than to be known as the best of the North-west. But I agree, it will get there organically. No need for media trying to make something up for narrative sake.
I think it will come together. Seattle will be getting their first taste of the playoffs which will start breeding more passion in the fanbase. They will begin to hate it when our fans travel down there and fill up a large portion of their building. Their fans might start doing the same thing (especially if they build a good team) which will surely annoy our fans. And we're off to the races! Haha

FFS we have made it 2 times in 12 years.
How many of those years did we spend to the cap? (Not to mention the assets we've thrown away) Nobody wants to tear it down and rebuild (at least that I've seen) but if they would have chilled out for even one year it would have really helped.
I used to actively cheer for teams that I hate to do exactly what we've done over the last decade or so.
They absolutely should be trying to make the playoffs next year. Additions like Hronek and our new coach are a good step in that direction. This "all or nothing" mentality absolutely needs to stop however. It has seriously damaged this team on multiple occasions over the years. We should be much better than we are right now. We aren't though because we put so much stock in to previous seasons. Weren't those years fun?

Are we allowed to cheer for draft position now? Or will Petey and Hughes still have their entire careers derailed if they don't get to pad their stats in games that mean about as much as the pre-season?

Where did Myers go? He was unmovable this season.
82/57x14
Point is that there's more than one way to skin a cat. Moving Miller need not have equaled some waiving of a rebuild white towel, with appropriate follow up moves.
A team with Hughes, Hronek, Marino, OEL as it's top 4 with Pettersson, Kuz, Mik, Chytil, Beau at F (and Raty, Podz, Hogz etc coming up) and Demko in net, plus more cap picks and less long term cap liability would/could have been a solid (if deeper) start at a retool. And arguably better.
But here we are, and barring a miracle, Miller's not going anywhere. So congrats. Doesn't mean that folks that would have moved him were wrong.
Lol I literally clicked on this thread looking for your take. Agreed with it as I figured I would and happily feed my confirmation bias!

Great player no doubt, but he never got any of his teams even within sniffing distance of winning, not that he would have been solely to blame. I suppose my choice will be predicated on both greatness and perhaps multiple legitimate but failed runs at the cup.
Is that an entirely new proposition? I don’t know but I’m finding it more difficult to come up with a candidate who was not only great but, because they got close, felt the most pain.
I feel like Thornton must have felt the most pain haha. All those years where SJ were "cup contenders" lol. Sadly I think our Canucks players are the ones who came "closest"
Gilbert Perreault and the Sabres lost in the finals to one of the all time great teams in the big bad 75 Flyers. They had to get past another phenomenal team in Montreal to get there. The Canadiens had Lafleur, Robinson and a whooole bunch more HOFers on that roster. You had to be playing some pretty incredible hockey to get past them.

We shouldn't look at his playoff production if this thread is about the greatest player without a Cup.
He played 1,554 games, 625goals, 1300 points and 1040PIM. He wasn't just one of the best scorers, he was one of the best fighters at the time, I don't recall him losing a fight. There you go, he was one of a kind. It's too bad his years got wasted in Calgary.
Not to mention, he has great character, leadership, even better as a person off the ice.
Agree with regards to the other elements that Iggy brought to the game. He's not the only one however. There are others on this list who provided more than just offense.
Agree to disagree with regards to playoff production. All we hear all the time is about how the playoffs are what really matter. People praise those players who elevate their game in the post season. I find it odd that regular season stats then become the standard by which most people judge players. At least in terms of history.

Good call. Iggy was a good one.
If I look at the playoff production from the rest of the list, Iggy does come in the bottom half of both point totals and PPG. He's still ahead of some remarkable players however.

Love these kinds of threads! Good OP EP! (I enjoyed typing that!)
I feel like in these historical debates we often look first at regular season stats. Figured I'd be a little different and take a look at playoff production.
The highest point total belongs to Adam Oates with 156
Most games played goes to Big Joe Thornton with 187 (Probably a frustrating stat for him lol)
Gilbert Perreault has the best PPG at 1.14 (good sample size for him as well with 90 GP)
Going in I "felt" like Dionne or Perreault were probably my answer so I vote Perreault based on this info.
Note: Stastny's stats are nearly identical to Perreault. Stastny and Perreault are closer statistically than Hank is to Dank lol. (just to put it in perspective) I just give it to Gilbert by a hair.

Game nights put a little extra hop in my step again these days. It was bleak there for awhile...they were painful.
I do this thing for ME, not just a cup. And I know winning is making me happy and losing was not. So I'll just go with that.
Season's winding down...sad part, but I'll watch playoffs regardless. I enjoy hockey and the intensity of the playoffs.
Let's go Canucks...finish strong.
A good reminder for me and probably some others as well. One of my all time favorite hockey memories is Matt Cooke's goal against Calgary in game 7 and we didn't even win the bloody game!
It's alright to have fun folks! To be honest, even when I want the team to tank I still end up cheering for them whenever they score. I can't help it. It's only after the game that I really think about it.
Cheers!

You sound like a fan with PTBD. New management are building wisely. They moved older Bo for younger new Beau, younger Hronek, and very young Raty.
Where is the impatience? We are building a young and exciting team that will be a winner for many seasons.
I'm not actually saying that they ARE being impatient to be honest. I reserve my judgement on new management. My point is just that if you take your foot off the gas for a year or two then it doesn't automatically drive away your star players.
