I don’t think exposing yourself to covid in a bar while his teammates, coaches an d staff were diligent in protecting themselves

and the other players in the team’s first shot at the playoffs in five years, did not win him any friends in management or among the players. To then come into camp out of shape wasvstrike two. Running one of his teammates, exposing that teammate to potential injury was a likely strike three. Jake has lost a lot of respect through his own behaviour. Coaches forgive physical errors, they let you think a while about mental mistakes, but flaws in character you have to earn your way out os - usually by your diligence and attitude in practice. From what I have seen, MacEwen has none of those issues. To appreciate how deep is the pit Virtanen has dug for himself, he was the guy next up when Toffoli went down, his role was taken over by Eriksson, who had dug a hole of his own to climb out of. Eriksson did everything he had to to get out of that hole and won the job over a high first round pick who was carrying a substantial amount of Benning’s credibility. That speaks to management’s and the coaching staff’s current assessment of Jake.

I don't know if your guess is even remotely accurate, but the one thing that has been on display for everybody to see has been Jake's response to whatever issue there is between him and Green/ the coaching staff. He looks like he's completely checked out. Instead of being a pro, swallowing his pride and embracing whatever role the team asks of you in the playoffs he's mailing it in. If he doesn't like his ice time he should be out there playing like a wild man, but instead he looks like he's still playing with preseason hockey intensity. I hate that its come to this but I hope Toffoli is ready to go soon, we need all hands pulling the rope in the same direction in the playoffs

... and yet again Virtanen disappoints someone.

In a game that sorely needed physical pushback, he didn’t show and played a team low 5:35.

MacEwan had more impact in the physical department and Motte was a beast with 19 minutes in a defensive role.

My last hope (and it was a faint one) was that Jake would get engaged in the playoffs and step up his game.  This is the series to do it and he is running out of time to show it.

Unless things change, I just can’t see him on our team next season.

To be fair, Jake knocked a blue dman on his ass first shift of the game. He obviously doesn't fit in Greens game plan, and if Green is the coach next year (highly likely) Jake will be playing somewhere else.

A bit disappointed during the 3rd period when during one shift, instead of making sure the puck is cleared from the zone, he decided to start skating towards the centre ice line waiting for the puck for an offensive chance.

Instead, the Blues kept the puck in and got a good scoring chance.

Yup, blowing the zone was not a good look. I was surprised he played again after that.

Stars and Canucks would be another pretty cool retro Playoff matchup. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves Canucks fans. The Wild could still come back firing on all cylinders like they did in game one. Especially depending on what referees we get. Let’s focus on ending them tonight.

Good point. Hopefully not Sutherland tonight?

i hate this "unfit to play", it is just dumb, at least upper body injury or lower body injury and coaches letting you know 1 one day, 1 week, etc they would be out, fans want to know! all we can do is hope they come back soon.

After years of ridiculous subterfuge in the playoffs (upper/lower body injuries) NHL teams have finally found an actual reason (COVID/privacy laws) to justify their gamesmanship. We’d better get used to it.

Biggest problem was not getting to the net. That falls mostly on our top 6, not necessarily guys like Gaudette or Roussel (though they need to as well). Guys like Roussel, Ferland, Sutter, Beagle, Motte etc were doing it more than our top 6 but 1/2 of them lack the skill to be of much danger when they do. Their goalie had it far too easy.

All the back seat coaches etc are winning about not playing Virtanen, not changing up systems etc when the biggest (only?) Thing that needs to change is more will to break through MIN's brick wall of defense. This is big boy, playoff hockey. You pay the price or you go home.

We need to be more physical down low in our own end too. They had far too easy of a time retaining possession in the Canuck's zone while making our boys pay the price in theirs.
