  1.

Draft placement He is all over the map in the rankings. However, if he keeps improving on his dynamic play as he has so far this year, I could see him pushing the top 10 by the end of the year.

This is from the article, hardly a ringing endorsement that he should be taken ahead of the 3 bigger North Americans

How is big Bostn doing against small fast Montreal?

    It's not all about size

    Stop trolling

  2.

Unless they have off the charts skill, like those guys do, I'm going North American, Ehlers does not project to have that level of skill. He does not have the level of skill of Briere or Crosby either, even the trolls would agree with that. None of these euro guys are as small as Ehlers, even after he puts on weight. Why are you even mentioning Marleau's size, it doesn't support you arguement.

read the post above yours numpty troll

  3. Virtanen isnt going to go 7-9 it wouldnt make sense.

We need to trade kesler to anaheim and get virtanen and ritchie.

How i see the picks going

    Nyi dal colle

    van ritchie

    carolina ehlers

    Toronto perlini

    winnipeg nylander

    van acquired from anaheim. Virtanen

After kesler edler and hansen gtfo we can start the new era

    Sedin sedin kassian

    Shinkaruk horvat virtanen

    rithchie gaunce jensen

    I'd prefer

Ehlers with the 6 or one of the expected top 5 if one drops

then Fleury or Ritchie at 10

  4. How about a realistic Tanev move?

Tanev and six to Edmonton or Florida

for a winger of equivalent value (not sure who that is in FLA) and their pick

    Edmonton for instance

    Tanev and #6

    for

    Yakupov and #3

Yakupov has the skills to play and can be game breaker just needs to be coached better so we get what we are looking for and still can move up to get Reinhart/Bennett/Dal Colle

Edmonton gets a young dman that will fit in nicely but has proven he is much further along than their group. Prefer to move Edler, but he wouldnt waive and likely be asked for Tanev

  5. I think some fans already spoke loud and clear, although he probably can fill out, he will never be more then 6'0 offensive winger, with speed and skill meanwhile, we are heading the towards the direction of size and skill. Why would we take a 6'0 offensive winger with speed when we can take a 6'3 offensive winger with size skill that hits, runs the power play. Also an offensive player that is 6'3 225, that hits, best wrist shot in the draft, fights, runs the power play have good speed, (doesn't come by very often, I kindly repeat, a player of this stature that is 6'3 230 llbs and have offensive skills doesn't come by very often)

meanwhile we have Ehlers here 5'11 Maybe (he looks Cody Hodgson height and he is 5'11 tops) probably no more then 165 lbs, there is also Kappenen a 6'0 European Winger Nylander another European Winger offensive winger with speed, then you have Josh Hosang, 6'0 Canadian kid another offensive with speed and skill, jared Mcann, 6'0 offensive centerman with speed and skill,

Sam Bennet 6'0 176 lb pound winger with skill, how many 6'3 230 lb offensiver wingers are there? very rare, most 6'3 230 lb wingers are known as projects or future enforcers.

so my point? While we have the chance to draft a 6'3 offensive winger with size and skill and physical player, we take it. We go after the undersized high skilled wingers in future/ later drafts. These guys are a plenty a dozen. Plenty of 6'0 offensive under 180 lb wingers.

Ottawa actually made a off the wall pick. Karlson I believe was ranked in the mid second rounds, and they used an 18th pick on him, not a top 6 pick on him. Huge difference.

btw that picture of Ehlers, omg, that kid needs to start eating. He's as skinny as hell.

I hope that happens. It means one of the big 4 foward is ours.

  6. When I was Ehlers age I was exactly his size. From the age of 18-22 I grew to 6'2.5, and weighed 208. I accomplished the weight part by going on a strict gain diet and worked out with heavy weight all natural. I'm 36 now and still weigh the same. I also practice martial arts and i'm at a very high level in my school. I have very fast reflexes, speed, and power for my weight, age, and height. I'm not saying that Ehlers will be the same height as me (who knows he might be), but with the proper diet and workout routine(training) he can put on the weight for sure. Not sure why some are freaking out about his size so much? Its not like he isn't a good height already. He just needs to fill in.

I agree with you. I mentioned the same earlier, and you just have to look at alot of players in their draft year and realize they will grow!

When I was 17/18 I was 5'11 165, pretty much the same size. By 20 I was 6'1 close to 195ish....2 years, and I gained strength and speed and it was simply just growth, and working out (nothing special)

He will grow....all they have to do is meet the parents, get an idea of dad and mom's size and realize the kid will likely grow more than them, that's usually what happens

Imagine if Ottawa has said a 5'11 165 lb defenseman named Karlson was too small? and he was a defenseman!

  7. Quote by Hughson during the mtl/bos game a few mins ago

"The say the one thing the Bruins may have problems with is a team with great speed"

    So...do we want only lumberjacks?

  8. I don't think Ehlers would be targeted..There's a clean hit and a dirty one..that's it.

Duncan Keith is becoming the new Matt Cooke..Two cheap shot artists cheap shotting each other...Regardless of size ,no player can defend himself to an elbow to the head.

he'll eventually get his, someone is going to hurt him eventually

  9. This whole debate over Ritchie/Virtanen/Ehlers in my mind comes down to risk/reward

In MY OPINION and that's all it is, opinion

    1. After Ekblad/Reinhart/Dal Colle/ Bennett the risk of flop increases dramatically

    2. I think all those 4 players should find a way to become NHL players and contribute in some form or another to warrant why they were taken in the top 5-6

    3. Draisaitl is one of those potential hit or miss players alot of risk because of his skating but he did put up alot of points alone.

    4. Then we get out of the standard top 5 and our fine mess

    5. In that fine mess, I look at this like I look at decisions as a business person. If I am taking a risk, I need to try and quantify that risk and the resultant return. I should if I am smart, want to minimize risk and maximize return.

    6. Where most people debating here differ is simply in their assessment of risk amongst the players, we all have differing views based off what we categorize as more important (size, speed, hands, hockey iq, intensity, etc etc).

    7. Since I don't see any way to accurately determine if any person's view of assessing risk is better or not since, drafting is a crap shoot, a simple assumption would be these players we're debating are all equally risky given different definitions of that risk.

    8. Then I look at return, I ask who has the highest ceiling as this is a little easier to determine, still fraught with assumptions on what is more valuable to us (but this is where I pointed to the issue that our prospect pool has alot of size but lacks the upside gamebreakers). If you look at return from this perspective, this leads me say Ehlers is the best bet. Again, this is because I am of the opinion that:

A - We have alot of size in our prospect pool

B - Size/Projects are easier to find later in the draft and elite skill is not.

C - We only have Shinkruk in that group that MAY or MAY NOT become an elite game changer. Kassian a maybe if he keeps developing but in a different manner (not the key goal but someone who may contribute to it). Jensen and Horvat, great support players who will be key parts but unlikely they will be the 'go to guy'

That's the way I look at things and this is why absent a move up to get Reinhart/Bennett or Dal Colle we should go with most TALENT available, where size isn't an impediment. And we should consider the group when making the decision and lets remember Ehlers' not a munchkin/schroeder either.

  10. Move up and get Reinhart/Bennett or Dal Colle

and we can all hold hands and sing Kumbaya!

With our luck though, we'll move up and take Draisaitl and this will all start again!!!

oh the misery of being a Canucks fan!! our team sucks so bad now we're arguing over kids who are expected to be our saviour but likely never will!!!

    hahahahhaa

  11. Why would he, Edmonton is a dump of a city. I just think Edmonton would only be willing to trade for much needed help with D. They can sign a vet this offseason if they need too.

Not sure, Hansen is a good add, as would be Gaunce if he's thrown in, and only to move 3 spots? probably worth it for the Oil

For us, we trade a center prospect with size that can be of more use to Edmonton and get a prospect upgrade, we move a redundant player that can help the other team significantly.

Its not alot to ask of Edmonton really, smart trade for both teams.

  12. That would be the smart thought..Having a Reinhart/Horvat one two punch would be something...Only issue is..we don't have a GM..?..Even if we did, would a new GM pull off a trade like that fresh on the job..?

Yes if he's experienced which if its Benning he should be able to do, assistant GM's do alot of work, so the league knows him.

But fair point, will he be in place long enough to strategize, that is Linden's biggest challenge and I expect he knows it, and that this draft is huge since its the highest we've picked in decades.

Again, its not that huge of a move 6-1 or 6-2, 6-3, its not like trying to trade up from 23-30...much easier here especially as I said if the other teams (Fla/Edm) accept that they need some vets to supplement their teams. They don't move too far, so their fans don't get pissed and they can improve their team much more than simply adding more youth with both Edmonton and Fla literally have too much of now...

  13. I honestly think they need some size down the middle, Nudge and Gagner is just to small and lose too many battles.

Edler, Higgins/Hansen, Gaunce, 6th overall for Yak and 3rd overall. Yes it's an overpayment but we'd need to overpay to a divisional team.

Edmonton gets a D, a vet 3rd liner and some future size down the middle. Then if EDM still wants to get bigger they can draft Ritchie or Virtanen who should still be available or they could draft another D.

Canucks get an NHL ready scorer, a future first line center and some cap space to sign an offensive D.

Likely wouldn't happen and both teams would still have holes to fill but we have what each other needs (they need D, we need scoring)

I just can't see Edler waiving for Edmonton regardless...I think he'd be accomodating within reason...but no one would waive to go there, thus I was trying to find the best way to move up that helps them enough to still get them their pick and a vet.

  14. When you break down this theory, its about Drouin making hard plays for him to get easy goals right? Because Ehlers assisting on his goals would in theory mean Ehlers made the play.

Obviously you have to break down each goal they both factored in to really get a good grasp on this, and dispell this flawed theory. But I'll play along.

So again, in thoery Drouin helps him by making plays that lead to easy goals for Ehlers.

Truth is, Only 17 of the 104 points came from Drouin feeding him.

That's 93 points. Which ironically. is the exact same amount of points Ehlers was on pace for in the games where Drouin did not play. (And thats over 64 GP, 93 point pace over 64 games, without Drouin)

    owned

  15. Thanks Dad. Your too smart for me! I just don’t understand anything to do with hockey. Ehlers gets 73 points without Drouin and then he gets considered as a 3rd round player. Ehlers wont be playing with Drouin if we draft him and he wont be playing with anyone like Drouin so who exactly is he going to put these points up with the Canucks? No one. No one like Drouin, no one like Oates, no one like Kurri. Get it? Obviously not.

without drouin? wow you just subtract off the points hey?

you need to work on your analytical skills sorry. another troll blocked clearly thats what you're doing

  16. If Ekblad is gone why not make a deal with Oilers for there third. Problem is I don't think many of our NTC will waive to move to edmonton. But if somehow we could convince them to why not try and gut the oilers, something involving their 3rd overall and Yak....We draft Reinhart or Bennett our top six could look pretty good in a few years.

    Yak Reinhart/Bennett Jensen

    Shink Horvat Kassian

Yes I agree, I don't think we even need to gut Edmonton. I do think FLA may be doable because Garrison played there, and Edler if he's asked and told the Nucks want to move him may change his mind, and you never know if he talks to Lou.

Edmonton would be easier with no Ekblad available. Do they need another center? Maybe if they want to move Gagner but it simply compounds their issues of too much youth....I think they may simply jump at a move like Hansen and yet only move three spots.

I think Edmonton would prefer to get Ekblad, but if he's gone well then getting a player with size (Ritchie or Virtanen) and a vet that can help them, which Hansen can, makes alot of sense for them. Hansen fits in nicely as an anchor on their third. Its an small piece that helps them and costs them very little given their needs.

We can always throw in another player/prospect/pick and I think Edmonton has to think what the hell, this isn't a killer draft and we only move 3 spots and fill a hole or two as well

  17. You bet. That puts him to 73 point player. At this point will he still be considered a top 6 prospect? probably not. We are staying away from Permiter players.

ah ok so lets take away all the points drouin scored with mckinnon last year? LMAO!

lets take away all the points the Dal Colle had with Laughton this year!

umm what a stupid argument!!! its a team game!!!

ah so lets take away all of Kurri's goals that gretzky assisted on!!! damn Kurri shouldnt be in the hall of fame dammit!!!

    bossy and trottier!!!

    hull and oates!!!

every player scores points unassisted on their own dont you know!!!

  18. So sorry to abrupt your meaningless petty little arguments in this ridiculous thread. So if 30% of his points were with Drouin were saying that means he needs a player like Drouin to get that extra 30% (we don't have a Drouin type player that can perform anymore) and that being said he plays in the Q.....not the NHL. He plays in the Q. A lot of guys can put up big points in the CHL but cannot elevate their game to the NHL.

ya umm...so what do you expect that Drouin who is one of the best players in the CHL will have less that 30% of the impact on Ehlers when they are both the highest scoring players on the team and play the pp?

Drouin is probably in on 40-45% of the team's points son...

your point is not very intelligent

you might want to realize perhaps Ehlers boosted Drouins points by 30%

    :)

    weeee! see same senseless point

and you said no drouin no ehlers

well as one poster astutely mentioned 70% of Ehlers points were scored without Drouin so in the analytical/math world that is a strong majority of his points

    >50.1% = majority

    70% = vast majority

that's sum numeberish stuff for ya
