  1. Sorry, don't agree with this decision fellow Canuck fans. Tort's teams have always performed poorly traditionally his first season but then things turn around under him. He's just being made a scapegoat for Mike Gillis's poor 2011 team still mentality! Tort's year end assessment was right, the team needs some more YOUTH in their lineup. I feel he would've turned things around if given the start to next season. Just taking the fall for Gillis's poorly constructed current team that still resembles the 2011 team totally!

yup..its the players, aint the coaching and AV is showing it....

  2. Yep, we need to surround the Sedins with youth, speed, and talent because as of right now they're expected to do everything and they can't anymore. BUT, if they get some help I think they can put up 90 points again.

I would love Willie and Manny back here!

yes lets get older...heck trev should lace em up! bring back pavel!

  3. Can you read? firing now and not waiting until gm is in place was to not let torts hanging and allow him to search for a new job moron

respect is allowing trevor to let him go before reporting it 'moron'

  4. Look at it this way... gillis was going to fire him anyways... Inevitable. Torts becomes an analyst or works in KHL.

    Also means no feaster either...

Has anyone not mentioned Nicholson as GM? Been quiet after reports the nucks were interested in hiring him....

For a new coach; guy Boucher? Jeff blashill? Laviolette? No to trotz, Wilson.... Get new perspectives and a creative pp coach!

    Larry Robinson please

  5. I am totally ok with them firing torts but I also sincerely hope two other things also happe.

    1. Gully and Sully go too along with Melanson. Clean out the whole staff.

    2. This does not mean that Linden believes this core should stay intact for yet another season of lacksadaisical coach killer play. Get rid of some of the core this offseason. I especially want to see Bieksa and Edler go for real dmen who can actually play defense.

Melason has been great with the goalies..why would you get rid of him?

if you're going to clean house, whats the point of waiting at year? do it now...Kesler has alot of value post olympics so he should be moved

only issue is Edler, you hope he recovers and you try and get him to waive at the deadline

  6. When you have "No-show Joe" and the invisible Marleau it's hard to get your team anywhere. Is Couture the only person he is supposed to lean on to show up to big games? He needs his leaders to play like leaders and they don't (not really any fault of the coach).

    oh the IRONY!!!

  7. Canucks in his tenure >>>> NYR

He had the sedins in their prime (Art Ross, Hart), Kesler in his prime (40g, selke), Edler on top of his game (50+ points), Ehrhoff, good depth on D (just lacked that true #1), and good bottom 6. He also had Luongo

and i guess coaching had nothing to do with getting the best out of his players lol

love the one way analysis on cdc

    players play well...all them

players play bad.. all the coach

  8. Fair enough

    1. Mackinnon - 182 lbs

    2. Stastny - 205 lbs

    3. Martin - 200 lbs

    4. Toews - 208 lbs

    5. Marleau - 220 lbs

    6. Getzlaf - 221 lbs

    7. Keith - 200 lbs

    8. Kane - 181 lbs

    9. Niskanen - 209

    10. Pavelski - 190

well darn 2/3 guys that are under 210 were 1st overall picks and the other one plays on the heaviest team in the NHL

you think stastny was 200 lbs when he was drafted? lol

    Pavelski?

    Keith?

    Toews? lol

And ya sorry no one in this draft is going to be as good as Perry/Getzlaf and umm Niskanen is a dman

  9. I understand this...I honestly think we have to trade or sign UFA for some scoring,,we basically have none...I do think the Sedins are gone now unless they surprise us next year.

the point again is the 2014 draft is not addressing 2014-15 issues man -its about addressing future needs

  10. Jensen shies away from physical play. Kassian and Horvat are fine but everyone else you mention are 3rd/4th liners. Why do we have to sacrafice size for skill? Why not take a guy like Ritchie where you don't have to compromise. We clearly see things differently and I respect your opinion but I just don't see Ehlers as someone who can thrive in our conference

Point is jensen can HANDLE physical play, Hertl doesn't go hit guys nor does Jeff Carter. Dude Lindros 2.0 doesn't exist this year nor would he fall to 6 if he did.

Yes everyone i mentioned was third/fourth liners (other than horvat who you missed). therefore , the issue being we clearly need ELITE skill in our prospect pool - you don't get that? even after saying right above we don't have that skill?

Size and 20 goal players who hit can be found in the 2nd round, late rounds, NCAA, but elite skill seldom is found there, thus when you have a chance to get elite skill draft it

Do you know that when Sakic was drafted, the knock on him was size? 5'11 175. I remember that draft and people said his immense talent wouldnt translate to the NHL - that's why he dropped to 17 or so

Skill cant be taught...size is more available than skill ever is

  11. I highlighted your mistakes..

    2. Jensen will never hit 70-75 points..ever

    6. Archibald will never be a regular on the Canucks.

    8. Gaunce is big but a slug and sure isnt any saviour

    1. I used the word potential and if he cant hit 70-75 pts EVEN MORE REASON TO DRAFT ELITE SKILL, AS HE NEXT TO SHINKARUK, HE IS REALLY OUR BEST OFFENSIVE PROSPECT - OOPS ARGUED AGAINST YOUR OWN POINT

    2. Archibald has already shown he can manage playing the 4th line and that's all he will be -a role player with size. its opinion, but clearly being called up numerous times shows he can play that role, that's simply a fact from last season, debate a fact as much as you please

    3. Never said Gaunce is a saviour, and I said he has size and is a third liner - again suggests the need for skill

amazing your lack of reading comprehension even when i ordered everything nicely for you

    sorry you lose

  12. No..you are wrong,,you are tool..put an R in there and you are a troll..we all understand hockey her buddy,,you seem to think you are enlightening us...

    Damn..maybe you could be Batman,,,sorry

you get so angry when people present arguments that make sense because they understand hockey much better than you

sorry you think this is some sort of ego thing, i feel for you that you are so insecure

    be well

  13. Naslund never had to play against today's Bruins, Kings, Sharks, Ducks, Blues.

I'm not saying Crosby and Giroux would suck in the west but don't you think their numbers would take a dip? Crosby was completely shut out last season against the Bruins in the playoffs. Imagine him playing against big teams like the day in and day out through an 82 game season and into the playoffs.

    "silly point"

    silly point?

look at our prospect pool that's what we're drafting for...not TODAY..for the last time...please read my post above it lays it out quite nicely as to how we should be thinking about this draft and why elite skill is a must...

for a quick summary prospect players (forwards) with size / who can play a fight through the traffic game

Kassian (potential 55-60 pt power forward player)

Jensen (potential 70-75 pt sniper who can handle the size/ Hertl type)

Horvat (potential 60-70 pt 2 way player who has the size to play any style (as we know compared to Bergeron)

Lain (20-25 pt 4th line center)

Matthias (25-35 pt 3rd liner with size)

Archibald (15-20 pt 4th liner with size)

Cassels (can play a gritty game 35 pt 3rd line player with grit)

Gaunce (3rd line center potential 35-40 pt player with size to handle a tougher game)

Fox (who knows but a player with size and strength)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Shinkaruk (potential 1st liner with 75-85 pt potential), finesse, speed game

    No one else

So tell me again, we need size in the future? In a perfect world we'd find a big elite skilled center to be Hank's replacement in this draft but sadly, if Lindros was around he'd be first overall. At our pick, if there is not an elite center we need a winger with that elite skill to be that extra scorer. You need scoring depth man, not just size...right now we have enough size in the prospect pool and size is easier to find in later rounds, elite skill is not.

I'm silly? And for the last time, this guy isn't the size of Briere and scouting reports say he can handle a tough game and doesnt shy away.

    thanks for coming out

  14. Duchene is 200 lbs. Everybody else plays in the east. Versteeg doesn't make a huge difference for the hawks.

    So yea please continue

    Markus Naslund when drafted 5 '11 175

    Ehlers 5'11 168

ya markus naslund sucked and ya think Duschene was 200 lbs when drafted? lol...

oh and players don't gain weight? umm he's 18...most 18 yr old professional athletes gain muscle

I remember 2 years ago people yammering that Tanev was too small and light lol

Crosby would suck in the west, so would Giroux

wow so many holes in your silly points

  15. Hey tool..I watched Kass Kayo Eager...Im his biggest fan mr. know it all!

I understand the team is reeling him in..do you think me and others are clueless?

Its all because we are simpletons I guess..tool!

    you mad bro?

  16. how do we know the west will be so big and bad 5 years from now, things change, by the time ehlers is ready the west could very well not be so airtight and not nearly as huge

point is (which you astutely make/related to yours)...people here keep assuming who we draft is going to step in this year (its implicit in the point that we need size).

    1. We need size NOW

    2. We are drafting a player than won't be ready for at least 2-3 years more likely 3-4

    3. Therefore a smart person (such as yourself) see's that what we should be looking at is our team needs in 3-5 years

    4. Thus we look at our prospect pool and its NEEDS

    5. We have size and 2 way players in that prospect pool

    6. We lack speed and pure gamebreaking talent other than Shinkaruk in that prospect pool (ie the reason so many have said we need replacements for the Sedins right?)

    7. I have repeated this over and over and yet people really dont get it

    8. you dont solve today's problem with a player who's not coming for 3-5 years lol

    9. you don't want to create a different problem by trying to constantly draft the same player, as teams need a mix

    10. our FUTURE mix is needing number 6 above

  17. Ritchie has about 8 or so fights,, he is a freakin killer when he does as far as Kass,, he had alot more but it has tapered off in the NHL..personally, I love Kass but I dont think he knows how to fight well..where as Ritchie fights the tough guys and pretty much kills em.

Kass ko'd oilers goon Ben Eager man...

the team has been trying to reel in his temper and stop him from going over the edge...ie learn to be better on the ice than in the box....its about them 'training bad habits' out of him not that he's a spot picker or can't fight lol

not many guys want to fight him after seeing what he did to eager....what you will see is as he starts putting up points, more and more guys will challenge him to get him off the ice...

amazing how simplistic the views are here

  18. ^As nice as those bold points seem, they're quite meaningless.

If the Canucks are to win the cup in 2015, they cannot rely on a kid who'll need to spend years out of the Nhl to grow. Username change required?

hey laugher go read my other posts

that's exactly why they should choose him over worrying about size, since we have size in our prospect pool (which i have said in many posts)

btw nowhere in my post did i suggest he solves our CURRENT issues, in fact in my other posts I suggested drafted a player to solve our current problems that wont be ready until the future is stupid. the key is to look at our prospect pool assess its strengths and weaknesses and fill those holes. ie we have size, decent skill, grit in that pool, what we don't have is much elite talent (ex shinkaruk) thus ehlers is the smart pick and not just picking size because its a current issue.

thanks for coming out, next time read what i say vs getting hostile

  19. When drafted

    Markus Naslund 5'11 175

    Ehlers 5 '11 168

I think many would be happy with a player if he could turn out anything close to the first name....shut up about size

    http://thechronicleherald.ca/mooseheads/1192191-nikolaj-ehlers-super-sniper

“He’s one of those players who might not be as big as some of the other guys in the draft right now but scouts are looking at two or three years down the road,” Ashley said. “If you want someone on your team who can score goals, you’re not going to be looking for an 18-year-old to do that right away. You’re looking for a guy to do that starting when he’s 21 or 22. Nik’s a guy that will put on size. When you can skate like that and when he puts on 20 pounds or maybe even grows an inch or two, he’s going to be a superstar in the NHL.”

Scouts also notice how fearless Ehlers is. He never backs down from a bodycheck, even going so far as to seek out hard contact.

“One of the biggest things we noticed right away is he plays like a North American,” Ashley said. “I think sometimes it takes Euros time to adjust, coming from the big ice and maybe not being used to the game being as physical over there. But he looks forward to the physical play. He’s a big gamer. When you have someone on your team like that, it brings a sense of leadership. He’s a first-year player but he’s someone the guys look up to because of the way he plays.”

Dane has demonstrated that he's hardly riding on Jonathan Drouin's coattails with the Mooseheads. His 49 goals were the most by a Quebec League newbie since someone named Sidney Crosby.
