Sutter is another undervalued player by many of the fans.  I highlighted your comments that point out what a tremendous defensive C he is and what a significant player he is on our team.

I also prefer Sutter to continue in his role as the key shutdown guy, despite the addition of Beagle.  I think that Pettersson can play a decent defensive game when required, so he doesn't need the sheltering that Sutter provides.  I would rather see Granlund, Gagner or Gaudette as C (until Pettersson can take over), along with Baer or Eriksson (especially like Loui's defensive game) on the wing.  I have a suspicion that Elias is probably good at taking faceoffs, but will need plenty of time to learn the NHL game as a top 6 C

I have to laugh every time I hear someone (fan or media) knock on Sutter and what he brings to the team. He is invaluable to this club. If you want around the NHL and asked all the players to list their top 10 centers they hate to play against, he would be on it. There are a lot of top line forwards in this league that probably HATE getting matched up against Sutter lol.

The thing about these disturbers like Leipsic and Roussel, is they get other players involved.  I can see Guddy getting more involved physically this season.  It’s going to be a lot of fun to watch!

...Speaking of disturbers...i've heard and read about your scooter war stories Alf...::D Everyone here knows you love your grits LOL

    Well, screw that then!

LOL, well Lepsic was drafted as a center. And has done spot duty in the circle as well at the NHL level. Very small sample size tho...but his average is 58.8 and has 18 wins and 13 losses in the circle...dark horse center...!?

He did not play any center during his time in the AHL with the Marlies. The Marlies website shows FO% and you can go back to the 2013/14 season. In all his games with the Marlies he took 0 draws.

Wilson, Kassian, Anderson, Lucic, Martin are all players that say 5 years ago would have had their way with the team without any retribution. Having a beast like Gudbranson on the roster makes this team much more imposing. Add Roussel, Beagle, and Schaller just adds to this. Good times ahead.

I love all the grit man...just got excited for this season! I am not sure how well we will do this season, but I think it's going to be an entertaining one to say the least. A lot of story lines going into the season...who's going to produce the missing offense? Which kids will take the next step? How will Utica do with all the influx of youth? We've got good competition for every roster spot all the way down to Utica and into the ECHL. There is guaranteed to be some surprises this year.

Is that Patrick Sullivan?  The guy that was Eagered so bad Burrows gives him nightmares to this day, because you know, Burrows is crap and never should be playing at the NHL level?

Yup, the one and only

Seriously though... How can we ever get out of this rebuild if our 20 year old prospects aren't even hall of famers yet?? :frantic:

Dealing with all the drama queens is the single most difficult thing about this rebuild.

    Who has actually paid

money to watch it???  Fess up!

Ya, they made 3 movies of it....Jackass 1, 2, and 3....ugh. My generation sucks. All my buddies went to go see it...

I read the a book about the fall of the Roman Rebublic recently.  Dude, start building the bunker now...  It read like a parody of events going on now.

But with a user name of Atilla one would think you know a thing or two about the fall of Rome.

Actually I stole the name from a book called the "Ballad of the Whiskey Robber". It's about a guy named Attila Ambrus, who is a real life robin hood of sorts. And also played in a european mens leauge as a back up goalie (he wasn't very good). But he would rob banks in his off time, and give the lady a rose at the bank teller each time he stole money.
Then give a lot of the money he stole back to the poor neighbor hoods where he was from. He finally was caught and put in prison. He then escaped from prison, then got caught again...anyways I just love that this guy is a real person haha.

What is worse is that people paid money to go see this movie in theatres...on a big screen...imagine that...and we wonder why our society is so messed up...lol

Green and Benning both criticised Calgary for how they deployed Baertschi.  Green was saying he's not suited to play in the bottom-6 and Benning was saying he's a skilled player and needs to play with other skilled players.

Adding Beagle, Schaller and Roussel is to be able to play their skilled payers in offensive roles with other skilled players.  “We want to give our young players a chance to play in skilled positions on the team and in offensive situations, so we were looking to round out our group,” Benning said.

C'mon, that doesn't fit the Vancouver media narrative at all. Remember, we wasted money on all these plugs and they're taking away roster spots from the kids...LOL.

I love the fact people keep throwing out the argument that Beagle, Roussel, and Schaller will be taking valuable spots. When Benning has openly said he wants his young kids at the top end of the roster producing offense.

The guys that should really worry about their roster spots are Gagne, Gaunce, and Granlund...the triple G's.

However, due to Granlunds defensive proficiencies I think he's got less to worry about than the other 2. I'm pulling for Gaunce but i'm a realist and i'm not sure he beats out Schaller for a full time 4th line spot. Which means he gets put on waivers, and I have no doubt he would pass through.

Gagne is really the only guy out of this group that is battling for a top 6 spot, and I hope the best for him. He will probably start the year somewhere in the top of the line up. But once Pettersson starts to get an understanding of how to play on the smaller ice I can see him passing Gagne and forcing him out of the line up by mid point of the season or even sooner.

My ultimate dream tho is that Dahlen and Pettersson shine at camp and dominate as a pair during pre-season. Warranting both of them to be on the opening day roster. I am soooo hoping this happens. Those 2 are electric together! Lets face it, with the Sedins gone, our top end of our line up will not have a lot of chemistry. It will take time to build that up to see who fits with who the best. With Dahlen and Pettersson they have instant chemistry, the million dollar question being, can they do it at the NHL level...I am so excited to find out!!

Crotchturd needs to be administered a gut punch by Gudbranson.

Baahhhaahhhaa...I like that name...gross tho...You have me pondering how a turd get's in ones crotch?? (I mean really, it's disturbing to think about it)...but then boom, there he is in all his glory. Ladies and gentlemen, Crotchturd the great hits the airwaves to make it all possible, now I can piece the puzzle of my odd disgusting thoughts together and put them into a form that my tiny brain can comprehend and understand.... Thank you Botchford for being a beaming example of all that is turdy and crotchy!!

Botchford: Gut punch for the Canucks with Hughes returning to Michigan

Really? Whats a bigger gut punch       Beer  = Botchford covering anything Canucks?

Confused   = Huges going back one more year

What a goof. I can't stand most our media hacks in Vancouver anymore. It's getting so hard to listen to all the negativity. Every once in a blue moon they go bi-polar and start saying some nice things...then go right back to the drama after. They all try to build these "sports persona characters" because it sells. They only care about their image and will do anything to keep their popularity ratings up...it's hard to take anyone seriously who decides to go about their business this way. Not an ounce of integrity in the whole lot of em. Yuck. Botch TURD!!!

I hope you are right but there are a lot of pieces that have to fall in place to find a replacement NHL parent team if Vancouver leaves.  First it has to be a NHL team that owns an AHL franchise because Robert Esche doesn't own a franchise.  Then you need to have a team that is looking to move their AHL team to a different city and is either in their final year of an affiliation agreement or has an out clause in their contract.  Not impossible but not a high likely hood either.

The chance are much higher that the Comets would have to move down to the ECHL and I'm not sure how well that would be supported in Utica.

Maybe, for sure there is always a chance of that. But I look at how quickly teams out west relocated their AHL clubs with little to no issue. Only hang up was finding venues. Which Utica already has. A team can move an AHL franchise pretty quickly. Obiously i'm just spit balling... But Utica would be way to enticing for an NHL team that has a "mediocre" AHL location to be at least thinking of the possiblility of moving to a ready made and ready to rock place like Utica. And there are quite a few mediocre AHL teams who draw crap all for attendance. Any NHL team would love to park their prospects in Utica. Bar none, the talk around the league has people looking straight in your direction.

One of my favourite plays of Brassard’s season. Really captures a lot of what he can offer. Silky smooth hands in tight (he actually had one of the OHL’s best shootout percentages) and he’s just a piece of work when it comes to agitating opponents and rubbing it in with the opposition fans.

Hopefully Matt heals up well and comes back to dominate the OHL next season, signs an ELC, and maybe gets a late season/playoffs taste of AHL hockey before starting his pro career in earnest for 2019-20.

    Kid’s a beauty. :)

I'm loving all these dark horse defensemen we've been nabbing in the later rounds over the last few drafts (Rathbone, Brisbois, Gunnarsson, Brassard, Utunen). Some are showing quite a bit of promise! Brassard is a very intriguing prospect. He really came out of his shell last season. Would love to see him get a sniff in the AHL next year.

I see the Linden departure as a bad sign for keeping AHL hockey in Utica.  Trevor was always consistent in his statements that the benefits of playing in a city a short drive from other AHL cities outweighed the advantages of having them close by for call ups.  He also always mentioned that great support that the team receives in Utica.  Benning has spoken well of Utica but the number of quotes are far less then the number of times Linden has spoken about this subject.  Ryan Johnson seems to be the rising star in the organization and is very bullish about keeping the farm in Utica.

The two biggest concerns I have are Aquilini possibly wanting to build the Canucks brand more by moving the farm somewhere in BC and the unknowns of what the inevitable next President of Hockey Operations may feel about the farm team's location.  The only certainty is that the Comets are entering their lame duck season without any solid news regarding a possible extension.

Honestly, if Vancouver does move on from Utica I think it would be a mistake but I can see why they would want to do it. I do however think the concerns of Utica finding another hockey club to play in the arena will be short lived. Every NHL team out there knows about Utica and how great it's been for our prospects. I think you will have a line up of suitors willing to relocate their AHL franchise there. It has too many good things going on for it to ignore...great ownership who buys into the NHL teams philosophy, top venue with amazing fans, and is in a great location for any team out east really. I really really hope we stay in Utica.

And yeah, I’m including Lukáš Jašek.

Aaaawww man, i'm gonna miss my Jasek updates from you haha. I had the same affliction for Hansen when he broke out years ago. I still remember seeing him in his first AHL game thinking this guy is gonna play!

I wouldn’t be surprised. I actually have a feeling Gagner is going to play, and click, with Pettersson and that he might actually surprise us all with ~40-50 points alongside Elias in a sheltered 5v5 role and heavy PP minutes. Deployed that way, Gagner could actually be a very useful piece next season. And I could see them keeping Gagner around basically until EP outgrows him (either this season or next) and settles in to become a player who can carry a top line on his own and who plays in a higher role and minutes than Gagner can really handle.

I got grilled back when we signed him because I said he could be a guy if paired with the right offensive talent that could put up 40-50 points in a season. I compared him to Brendan Morrison that way, in the sense that he was a good stable line mate for Bertuzzi and Naslund to work off of. Morrison was way more defnsively inclinded than Gagne, but I still think the mold fits.

If you look at Gagnes stats he has had a couple up and down seasons (which makes sense as he's bounced around a lot lately). But if you look at his overall production over the years his average is around 40-45 points. I still think that given a stable environment like he had when he was in Edmonton that he will start to produce more effectively again. If he does he'll be a decent stop gap for the next 2 seasons as the kids develop. And easily tradeable if he does resume that kind of production again.

I guess it's based on Dahlen having more experience playing at the pro level. After the Beagle and Schaller signings, I think Gaudette might start in Utica but get called up. Just a hunch I guess but both are definitely going to be playing with us soon anyway.

I'm okay with Gaudette starting in Utica. He can really get a chance to sink his teeth into another 1C role like he did at Northeastern. Manitoba did great things for Kesler before he hit the Canucks roster. He wasn't there long but it helped him greatly. I can see a similar path for Gaudette...Kesler took a few seasons developing as a shut down 3 C with Burrows before really solidifying himself as a premier 2C in the league.
