That team is destined for failure. Nobody at forward is over the age of 26

Alright, how about 3-4years. I know in 2 years they'll still have one or two veterans such as Eriksson and Sutter but not much more. Unless they sign some UFAs.

I really hope we get a top 2 pick this year so we can get that!

    Virtanen 2017 draft Boeser

    Goldobin Horvat Dahlen

Not bad, I see this in 3-4 years

    Goldobin-Horvat-Boeser

    Dahlen-Hischier-Granlund

    Baertschi-Gaudette-Virtanen

Labate-Chaput-Cramarossa(just because I like the name)

    Juolevi-Tanev

    Tyamkin-Stetcher

    Subban-Gudbranson

    Marky

    Demko

With Mackenzie, and now LeBrun, floating Ben Hutton's name in trade rumors, perhaps JB feels Olli is going to be on our team next season?  Maybe moving Hutton makes space for Olli?

Not to mention our other defensive prospects such as Pedan, Brisebois, Subban, McEneny who could all break into the league in the next year or two and then other longer shots such as Olsen, Sautner, Neill. It truly is impressive how our defensive depth has changed.

My Guess is that Juolevi is on our team next year, with a good offseason, I think he's ready.

Id be tempted to keep Hutton and move Sbisa for what you can get. This also makes sense for making room for Juolevi.

We basically just have too many D and need to move one or two

    Edler Stetcher

    Hutton-Tanev

    Sbisa-Gudbranson

Tryamkin-Juolevi               <----those are 8 quality D that will probably be on the team next year.

Biega-Larsen          <------Biega, one more year in AHL/waivers/NHL recall. Larsen, Gone next year or AHL

    Pedan-McEnemy

Subban           <--------3 good D that are on the cusp of making the team.

Brisebois-Olson-Sautner-Neill-Candella  <-----Canucks prospects that have a shot of making it in the years to come.

Thats a lot of Dmen. One could trade Hutton and Sbisa and plop in Juolevi, Tryamkin, Pedan leaving

    Edler-Stetcher

    Juolevi-Tanev

    Tryamkin-Gudbranson

    Pedan

as your D corp next year.

Virtanen is struggling yes, but I feel like he would have more points than Megna, Chaput, and Skille if he would have been left on the Canucks and given their opportunity. Did he deserve it? No, but I think he is better than they are.

Yep I agree, I think Virtanen needed to get away from his hometown and learn how to be an adult and pro. although he hasn't put up a lot of points down in Utica you can see he's becoming a better overall player. It will be interesting to see how he comes to camp. In shape or not? Competitive or not? It will be interesting to see

  5. I like the way JV skates and drives the play. Unfortunately he's looking like a one man show right now and needs to use his line mates. Good to see him playing well and hope he can pot a few goals and more assists before the end of the year.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but pudgyharvy (Pujiarvi??) isn't in the NHL this year either but I wouldn't go and say that tkachuck is going to have the better NHL career than him.

Just a little perspective I use to placate myself thought I would share.

Ya and don't forget Brisebois as well.

I've seen him play and still do. I got to see him play in BU and at NU. I'm not sure if he's planning to turn pro or not, but I honestly don't think it would be a bad idea for Gaudette to stay another year. (Also fun fact, the Finnish Flash's son, Eetu, is going to be playing here next year.)

He's a good defensive center who is playing with Dylan Sikura and Aston-Reese. He's a defensive center who can both pass and shoot. From what I've seen he plays a pretty good north-south game even being able to generate rushes off the PK. He plays on both the PP and PK unit and is trusted with a lot of minutes. He's a pretty gritty center that does the dirty work, but plays smart at the same time. In the past his footspeed hasn't been particularly impressive, but it's been improving as of late and can continue to do so in my opinion. Those who have seen him play early on will notice that although he's not particularly slow, sometimes he doesn't have the footspeed to go all the way and beat defenders wide. However, it should be noted that he has made a conscious effort to work on that over the summer with a trainer. His shot was also something he tried to improve and is now clearly paying off. This is why you'll see that this season he's been trying to jump on pucks more quickly, as well as generating more rushes and getting off a shot as fast as he can. Which is why you'll see that his game starts to resemble Mike Richards/Kesler's. His cycle game is underrated but you can see it's there when his team has a chance to set up.

Don't worry about his two-way game, it's probably the strongest part of his game in my opinion. His numbers aren't inflated, he does genuinely generate opportunities, but he plays with two other players that are really good in their own regard and they all seem to compliment each other really well.

By "the real deal" you mean a bonafide top 6 forward, then I would suggest you lighten up on your expectations for the kid. Will he become a top 6 forward someday? Quite possibly. However, I would strongly advise everybody to keep their expectations low (Third line/bottom-six) and be pleasantly surprised if he exceeds those expectations.

Sounds like we have a great Prospect! Hear he's on Buttons list of 50 as well. Thats pretty good drafting by Benning, getting him in the fifth round. Id say if he makes the team at all, bottom six, then we have an absolute steal on our hands!

I couldn't see Juolevi being ready for the big show. Another year in juniors will likely be best for his development followed by 1-3 years in the AHL would be my presumption. Boeser on the other hand could be ready to slot into the canucks next year. I think management has learned their lesson and will only allow player to stay in the bigs if it's earned. If he earns it, good for him, bring it on. If he doesn't I would love to see him paired with Virtanen running the first line in Utica (assuming Virt also gets his game settled and is on the first line).

Also 2010 called, They want their arena back.

Ya depending on who turns pro/sticks with the big club. Maybe we'd see a Virtanen-Gaudette-Boeser line?

Hope we will never get tired of an announcer saying ".. hit by Tryamkin".

Wonder if his shot might clock in to shoot in the home "skills" competion?

I don't know but i bet its the strongest. Gudbranson might give him a run though

We can't be sure about that last statement until we see how they pan out. Tbf to Gillis, he showed improvement up until the 2013 draft (coinciding with his look into analytics). His 2013 draft alone looked like a home run with Horvat, Shinkaruk, Cederholm, Subban and Cassels. We saw first-hand though how picks rarely reach their hype/potential.

True but Bennings 2014 and 2015 draft has already showed some real NHL talent. 2014- Tryamkin looks well on his way to being an NHLer for years(Only question is conditioning but that improves with age) Demko- Future #1starter if you talk to any scout. Forsling-Showing he most likely will be NHL calibre already at age 20. Virtanen- will be an NHL player. Whether thats first second or third line. McCann-has the talent..just needs the attitude. 2015- Boeser..enough said. Brisebois-looking like a leader and at the very least 3rdpair depth Dman. Neill-Lighting it up but might not translate. Zhukenov, Jasek, Olsen all can still be NHL players. <^^< that is good drafting. You know that there are at LEAST 4 guaranteed NHLers in Tram, Demko, Boeser, Virtanen. In two years Benning already has more NHL draft pick NHLers then Gillis.

I think we should gauge his performance in a few years on all four of Boeser, Juolevi, Virtanen and McCann + whoever else he drafts. It's not looking too good for the latter two atm.

Well Boeser looks like a great pick. Juolevi a good pick right now. Demko a great one for a 2nd. I think the Canucks rushed both Virtanen and McCann in to satisfy fans wants and thats hurt their development currently. I do think that no matter what, Virtanen will be an NHL player for us. Even if that is in a few years as a third liner. But however it works it definitely beats Gillises drafting. Gillis managed Horvat(thank god haha) and Gaunce...thats about it for his first round picks. In my mind Benning has drafted more NHLers in two years then Gillis in 5.

I'm talking about the last three seasons with the Bruins. Sure he's aging, but he's only 31. He's got a few good seasons left. I don't think this contract has ever been about the last few years of his contract either. That's why the NTC conditionals are different in each year of his contract.

haha sorry I meant the bruins. Its true he seams like a slow starter in a new place. My concern is that with the way the league is now, being built on speed that as Eriksson ages he won't keep up. But well see.. Hoping the best for him so that the Canucks do well

  14. 2 hours ago, suitup said:

I think in a couple sesaons, we will see Eriksson improve to about 50-60 points. When Eriksson just moved to the Bruins, he didn't fare as well as his last season with them.

Ya but with Dallas he was young and going into his prime. Now he's older and about to go into the decline stage. My guess is that the last three years of his contract are really going to hurt this team.

Botchford is about self promotion.  I gave up reading Botch.  To use Journalism and Botchford in the same, paragraph is pushing the limits.

I like the effort that Megna and Chaput, and Skille bring, 4th liners all imo.  I disagree with Megna playing with the Sedins.  He brings it but the skill level isn't there.  If Willie likes chances, great, but bury at least one for Gods sake.  Last night he was all alone, 10 feet in front of the goal and rifled one right in the goalies crest.  At least he hit the net but c'mon.  He has some of the same qualities of Hansen so I see the logic.  Promote Burrows.  Or Eriksson....he's pretty good.

Linden Vey, I referred to above.  On paper, he should have been much better.  They gave him a good spot in the line up and had all the patience in the world with him as far as getting to the level that they expected of him.  It was a mistake.  After a couple of months, they reeled him in and gave him time based on merit.  He did get better but no where near what was expected and after 2 years, he is now a Flame.

Are you guys suggesting that they gift Rodin time like they gifted it to Vey?  The fan base never got over those first months of Vey's tenure.  And now you suggest that they repeat the same mistake.  Willie and Jim know that it was a mistake and I am glad they learned from it.

Ok then explain why Megna has been gifted time with the Sedins? and why both Chaput and Megna were gifted spots on the roster? I know it was mostly due to injury but now with Rodin back and Boucher needing a look why not send Chaput down? He hasn't done enough at this level to prove he deserves a spot. I would also argue Megna  has barely done enough so far to earn a spot(just because he has 3 goals)

Willie has now succeeded to draw the attention of Hockey fan base and Journalism in General.

.. Hate to say this,. Not a Botchford fan,.  But Botchford is about to draw both guns on the guy (WD).

Well deserved Willie. Way to go.

Unless your names Vey, Chaput or Megna. In Megnas case you get to play with the Sedins because thats whats best for the team hahaha

Gaunce has a surprisingly good shot, he's just never encouraged to use it. Always forced to play the safe game which is dump, chase and fight along the boards so he never gets into a shooting position.

I say WD needs to use his big body for screens more and try to get him to be the shooter on a line for once as opposed to one of the fourth liners who bangs away and goes nowhere. He's never going to generate offence on the 4th line. Slot him in with Burrows and Horvat and see what happens.

Ya I agree, Id like to see him on the third line. Granland-Gaunce-Rodin might be good and fun to watch.
