Wonder if they would take Petey and Hronek for Hughes x 2. They don't really need the rest of the stuff outside of Petey (unless we do Petey's + another decent asset like Lekkerimaki (UNLESS D-Petey really pops off, in which case perhaps we can trade them across) for Hughes x2).
That's along the lines of what I was thinking.
Petey +Hronek +1st or 2nd.
The Hughes brothers are a symbol of the future for NJ. I think we would have to pay above market value to get them.

Wow. A Canuck forum 2 pages long and everyone is still in agreement.
I also hope it extends to BC. -

I think anyone suggesting he might be worth a first at the deadline is assuming the Canucks would retain.
despite his deficits, he’s still a #4/5 guy on a lot of teams. That, the fact he’s a righty and the fact he’s a freaking giant could be pretty attractive to a team that’s looking to make some noise in the playoffs…and we know teams have more of a penchant to pay up at the trade deadline than other times of the year.
Agreed. 50% retained at the trade deadline would only be a cap hit around 1-1.5 million and actual salary only 100-200k. That is actually a great price for him and contending teams would probably be willing to give a 2nd or 3rd for that.

Im not sure why they cant do cap structures in post tax dollars
It would be hard to do. A good accountant can lower your taxes quite a bit. Many hockey players run charities for example. It would be hard to set a standard that actually got applied to everyone.

Thing is, if you ask and someone's uncomfortable I highly doubt you'll get a different answer if you pursue it further. Chances are, you're just going to piss him off.
What do you expect him to say?
I totally agree. Which is why I was shocked they brought him out. I wonder who thought good was going to come out of it? They had to know the questions were going to be asked, and they had to know he didn't want to answer them. And he has been out for months. It's not like he has been in the spotlight recently.

Group 3:
I found this a strange combination to put out there. Two people recovering from injury who were out most of the season, someone who is great but barely speaks English and Meyers. I thought Myers actually sounded really good, but this seemed like no thought was put into the groupings.

They're relentless. Always looking for a potential feeding frenzy.
Imac's my favourite of the bunch. And Faber (is that him talking now?...I think it is)
At the same time, I'm not sure what they should ask him. I was shocked that the Canucks brought him out. What is the media supposed to ask, what do we expect him to say? It was brutal to watch. That part just felt like another mismanagement by the organization regarding Tanner.

I wonder if Martin and Silovs split nhl backup. I think I heard the idea on sn650. Martin travels as the backup but they call Silovs up for the day to play at home. Then he can split the Abby net with big Nikita. Silovs needs games to develop to much to be a NHL backup and hope to keep developing I think.

Interesting point on SN 650 yesterday about UFA signings.
Who is in our pipeline?
Signing a D for a 3-4 year contract makes sense as we have lots of needs and not a lot of top 4 prospects.
But 3C? What about Raty? If we are signing a 3C for 3-4 years we remove room for him to grow into that role. Do we need to spend 3-5 million locking up the role for the next few years or do we need someone just for next year?
As for budget: Hopefully Myers can be traded and I think Boeser at 1-2 million retained is less painful than an OEL buyout. It = $10 million out and 2 million dead cap for 2 years.

Do you think Poolman would be a buyout candidate? Wouldn't save much. Net $2 Million, $500,000 cap hit 23-24, 24-25 Then $1 million 25-26, and 26-27.
I don't think there is a need. It's like Ferland. He isn't playing again. LTIR for the rest of the contract I suspect.

I hope we keep him, but pay him as a 5th D. Cheap for top 4 and well paid for both 2 pair. If we have 2 RD better than him I think we are really solid on the right side, but him moving up due to injuries or sharing the bottom 2 spots on RD would be fine.

Why not include the 1st and 2nd we paid out?
I included the 2nd. But if I added the 1st we paid I would have to add the 1st we got as well. Since it was the same one I just left it out of both.

Out In
Roster:
Bo
Schenn
Lazar
Stillman
Prospect:
Lockwood
Wyatt Kalynuk
Picks
2023 2nd.
Roster:
Beauvillier
Hronek
Kravtsov
Prospect:
Raty
Bloom
Picks
2023- 3rd
2023 – 4th
2023 – 4th
2024 – 4th
I actually like how this lines up. It seems like significant effort to improve and address some needs.
The doubt is more along the lines of the amount left to do:
Boes, Meyers at minimum need to be moved this summer, if only for cap reasons.

Starting to feel we are the only ones not dealing with Penguins.

I think there should be a 'Future Considerations' thread.
I mean a veteran like him is surely worthy of his own trade thread.
-
I like these ideas, but I wonder if we overvalue what he will get.
Friedman was stating that he expected a 3rd or high 4th as a return and the Canucks will resign if they can't get that. That seems really low to me, I would resign him if we can't get a second, but I do wonder if our expectations are inflated.
-
I think the paper refers to he doesn't actually play in the minors. He stays with the big club but can't play. Not sure though, but I thought I heard something like that.

First game I get to go to since 3 weeks before the pandemic. Super excited. Go Canucks!
Just not sure which direction I want them to go in. To win or not to win that is the Canuck question.

Actually I would think about trading Kuz and Schenn to the wild. They have lots of cap space this year, lots of prospects and picks and no cap space next year.
They can't resign either of them for next year, which means they will both hit FA and we can resign them. Especially if we have a handshake agreement in place before hand.

So does that mean he is close to coming back, or that he had a setback?
I was wondering last night how the first part of the year would have looked like if we had:
Hughes
OEL
Dermott
Instead of Rathbone or Stillman.
-
I wonder if they will try to convert him to a center in the A. If he could win faceoffs, he could be a great 3rd line center.

You guys do realize Podkolzin is injured, right?
Actually I didn't. I knew the fight hadn't gone well but just saw that we was the extra on line rushes. Thanks for the update.

Understand Demko has to play. Don't really agree with not getting the other three into the game.
Abby plays Sat and Sunday at home.
Podz and Rathbone should be playing there if scratched tonight.
Then back with the big team for the Monday game. Use the waiver exemptions and proximity to give them lots of playing time.
