  1. The turtle derby is frustrating. If we miss the playoffs, we're picking ( using realistic prognostications ) anywhere from 6th to 12th. If we make the playoffs, we're almost certainly picking 16th.

I both want to see a post season and am scared at how that could backfire on us. A healthy team might be able to hold their heads high, but Murphy's Law has not been our friend. I will always take a win over a tank, but I think that a post season has more negatives than positives.

Jim could have called for a draft pick which would have been better, because with a pick you have a player pool you can choose from.

This is 100% opinion and has no factual context. Doubt that he had any 'option' re taking a draft pick ( my opinion ).

Watching the first clip is quite disappointing. I have been a big, big supporter of Evan McEneny, but he plays his man badly, giving him way too much space. He should not be allowing his man the freedom to pick and choose where he wants to shoot from !

    Quick draft question

is the draft position based solely on points or are the lower spots reserved for playoff teams ?

If if you make the playoffs do you pick 15-31 ?

I ask ask because of the division we are in if we sneak into the playoffs we would pick 15th if that’s the case however if we were to just miss the playoffs we would pick 11th

my example is if the season would end today

basically if we make the playoffs we could potentially drop 4-6 draft positions

The 16 teams that make the playoffs start drafting after all the non playoff teams have picked ( barring trades ).

As of today, we are just out of the playoffs, but there are three eastern teams with records better than us, so we would be pick #12.

If we make the playoffs, we are almost certainly 16th in points. If we are out after the first round, our pick would be #16 ( 1st after the 15 non playoff teams. )

Yeah, the Eliot signing is really interesting.  I would agree with you except, Brassard has put up slightly better numbers than him.  I dunno, he has put up better numbers than Jordan Subban did in his third year in the O, so the likelihood of him becoming a decent AHLer can't be that far off.

Yes, really have no idea where the truth lies. I totally expected Carl Neill to be signed. Neill may end up with better stats over Brassard or Subban. Believe his skating nixed a signing. Don't know where Brassard falls in the good/ bad skating question. His offence, like Neill and Subban's is very good.

Has brassard done enough to earn a contract from the canucks following his season?

Don't know what JB has in mind for Brassard, but the Eliot signing makes me think that his chance of an ELC is less than 50/ 50 !

In all honesty I didn't realize Beagle and Schaller were undrafted. I mean, as of now I can see why Schaller was undrafted. Lol. But Beagle being undrafted caught me off guard. Guy is so good I kind of just assumed it was expected his whole career.

Plus.....in Utica, Sautner, McEneny, Chatfield and Kero, and in junior, Eliot.

Stud.  No need to send him down any longer, he is an NHL player...

Could not disagree more ! AG must return to Utica if the 'nucks are out of the post season race ! Look how much he soaked up during his recent stint there. Being part of a Utica playoff run is exactly what he should be involved in !

    so, like not actual proof?

....or perhaps no proof at all. JB may have been working on this an hour after Demko was out of action. Great when assumptions become facts.

  10. Can't work out how the Canucks view Leighton. The amount they're playing him makes it seem as if they like what they see. He is rising to every challenge. Kulbakov was playing fairly well. He seems to have ups and downs, but didn't do too badly. You'd think that the 2 goalies would alternate, but Leighton has 3 of the last 4 ( going on memory ). Would not be surprised if he's offered an AHL contract.( I think that a NHL contract would mean he has to pass through waivers ? )

  11. Have not seen too much of Lockwood this season. Hi-lite stuff only. The question at the start his season was, could he cut back on his kamikaze defensive style and stay healthy ? He's done well, health wise. Has he, in fact, toned things down in that area ? Has it affected his overall game or is he still flying around hitting everything in sight ?

Even if DiPietro played well, I personally don't really see how throwing a CHL goalie up against one of the best teams in the NHL is a good way to start an NHL career. It would be good on DiPietro if he had played well, but it's one game and a risky game at that,

It's not about what happened with that game at all. I thought we weren't supposed to be rushing our goalies. It seemed to be the mantra that I've kept hearing over the past number of years. Yet, here we are, talking about a goalie I doubt anyone would have thought would have even played an NHL game this season.

Not too sure who you would have started. JB backed himself into a corner when he delayed on replacing McKenna, but last night was not part of any plan. Bachman, Demko injured and McKenna on a fake conditioning stint. Markstrom was pencilled in to start every game till Demko/ McKenna came back. When Markstrom couldn't go, who was meant to start ?

Don't look now, but the Comets are 7 games over .500.  Considering what a mess they were at about the quarter mark of the season, this has been a huge turnaround.  It seemed like it started once Demko returned.

The veterans have been bolstered. Domino effect, now the rookies have less pressure on them. Just Kero to start, add Gaunce, add Pyatt and lately Schenn. Huge difference !

  14. Good to see Utica beating their top rivals. Was very interested in the fact that Leighton started in back to back games, especially as this is a three games over three days weekend for the Comets. Kulbakov will probably play today ( noon PST ). Canucks have to get another NHL goalie under contract. The DiPietro situation has to end. My guess that it's either Leighton or McKenna. Didn't get to see the LVP game, but reports indicate that Leighton was the better of the two. I think Leighton will soon have a NHL deal !

The Flyers are +/- 2days away from having to waive McKenna or keep him on their NHL roster.

Here we go again with people questioning our medical staff, GM and coach again about an injury.  You guys have no idea what they have or haven't done with Sven on his concussion. Just shut it......

I can't speak for @mll, but I'm 100% over the top pro JB and everything Canuck. When I question something, it means a great deal of positivity has been passed by. You're not talking to one of CDC's negative ninjas. It takes a lot for me to be critical of anything Canuck related. So....no........I won't shut it !
