[Signing] Canucks sign Luke Schenn

3 seasons of lackluster play strongly backs up the narrative that OEL may not be great. -

Winnipeg fans absolutely hate this guy, and there's a reason their management group felt the need to completely re-vamp their D core this offseason. -

If any other team in the Pacific had a right side of Myers, Hamonic and Poolman, we'd all laugh at how weak they were. -

[Signing] Stars re-sign Anton Khudobin

Much better price than Holtby's for a much better current goalie. Canucks should have been after Khudobin instead. -
[Signing] Canucks sign Braden Holtby

Truly horrific contract. Holtby is a shell of his former self and has not been impressive since the Cup run. Gross overpayment. Hope Green turns to Demko for any meaningful game. -
[Signing] Flames sign Jacob Markstrom

This will be painful. Marky I hope you got paid buddy!! Best of luck! -
He won't sit out. AZ was the one who approached him about a trade. The relationship has obviously soured now and the best thing for both parties is to move on, but there's absolutely no evidence that he would be more than likely to sit out and not play in order to be traded.

"One hand on the Stanley Cup" would be more like making it to the Cup finals at very least, and more realistically, making it to game 7 of the Cup finals. The 2011 team had one hand on the Cup, but this team definitely was not there this past playoffs.

They won't operate anywhere near the cap next season. It's all about cashflow.

Like I've said a number of times, we have no idea what Boston or the Canucks are offering, so to speculate about who is offering what because of the current makeup of each team is not a constructive discussion. We know why the Yotes are getting rid of OEL. We have a pretty good idea that he's telling AZ he's only interested in going to two teams. We have no idea what either team is offering, but we know that AZ's goal is to make the best decision for their team (aka their business) moving forward, and logically, that's exactly what they'll do.
-
The reality of the matter is we have absolutely no idea what Boston or Vancouver have offered. What I can assure you is that whatever the Coyotes decide to do, that will be what they feel is the best move for them, from a business standpoint, moving forward. To say something doesn't add up, when you/we/anyone not directly involved don't know the actual details is just pure silliness.
-
That's the thing about running a business. It's not an emotional thing (or shouldn't be). They're forecasting out their next 5 years, and clearly seeing that OEL is an anchor on the team from a cash flow perspective, especially given their cash issues. Keeping him likely means that they won't be able to do what they want moving forward. You're thinking about this from a pure hockey perspective, but this has very very little to do with hockey. It's all business. Hockey just happens to be their product, and the impact of not having to pay OEL $50+ million is probably far more beneficial to their business than the impact not having him will have on ticket sales, etc.
-
You do understand the dude that just purchased the Yotes is interested in running a business, and anyone running a business is ABSOLUTELY worrying about the next 7 years of cashflow. What a ridiculous assertion.
-
Read Provost's post directly above yours. Loui vs OEL saves them significant real dollars. I'm sure if they prefer Boston's offer, he will end up there, but we have no idea what Van or Bos real offers are, so we'll see.
-
It's not cap reasons it's that they have no money. They couldn't make bonus payments to players on time. Absolutely nothing to do with cap here and everything to do with cash flow. They can't afford OEL, period, and he's given them two options. They're handcuffed, by their own doing.
