  1. There’s a few very intriguing prospects that I would love to see fall to 11 like Oliver Moore, Ryan Leonard and David Reinbacher but I don’t think they will be available to us. Out of the guys who are more realistically available to us I don’t see many C’s I would take, I like Danielson but not at 11 because I think he has the floor of a 4th line C I don’t think he has the upside I want at 11 so the only C with that upside would be Yager who doesn’t top my list but I wouldn’t be angry if we took him. Wingers I’d be happy with are Perrault, Wood and Barlow but Axel Sandin Pellikka tops my list, he isn’t big bodied but he skates incredibly well and moves the puck exceptionally, there are other ways to find size so to have him or Hughes on the ice for most of a game can only benefit the team.

Yep, that’s just where you stay on the phone. Grade A RHD prospect and a 1st, and we need to have a plan for a replacement goalie.

This organization has shown they have no plan for damn near a decade now. We aren’t gonna win with Demko in the next few years and his value might not get higher, I don’t think him rebounding is a guarantee, those hips are going to be a problem and there’s rumblings (and who can blame him) that he doesn’t want to be here. It shouldn’t take a Kings ransom. Grans and a 1st we should jump on in a second but I don’t know that the Kings would even offer that. Give me Durzi straight up, we need to be looking at players this team can win with and actually have a plan with vision

I agree, it’s also a way better way to leverage value out of a trade. If you target a Cap team and offer picks and Cap space you can really get more value instead of overpaying UFA’s. Not everyone can take on salary but every team can take on picks and Cap relief. If you take on a bad contract you can also maybe get the other team to add picks or prospects.

    Asset management.

Unfortunately this team knows nothing of asset management, could have had Toffoli and Stetcher for the same cap as Schmidt but trade a 3rd for Schmidt. Trade a pick to acquire Dickinson and then trade a pick just to move him. This team is an atrocity and the situation is as bleak right now as it’s ever been. If anyone sees a light at the end of the tunnel then they’re high

Yeah i recall more people being vocally opposed. The poll may have been 50% but honest to me it felt like it was 80-85% against lol.

The pro miller peeps were pretty quiet from my recollection.

Well anytime I was discussing it there were very few people that backed me and a ton that thought I was crazy for wanting to move him. Maybe I was in a poopy thread haha

Invent a time machine, and go back to before new management put handcuffs on themselves?

90% of people on these boards wanted Miller re signed and already have buyers remorse. I thought he should have been moved 2 deadlines ago but certainly no later then last years deadline. Made no sense not moving him but signing him through his mid 30s where players generally decline, oftentimes rapidly

True.  But Gillis got fired for even suggesting the “R” word.  And what happened to Linden when he actually publicly used the “R” word?  Hopefully our owner will listen to JR.  I doubt it though.  So, we repeat the Benning era.

Oh it definitely starts with ownership, being the president or GM of this team are some of the worst management positions in the NHL because you’re essentially neutered and unable to do what you really want to do or think is best. I know this team won’t rebuild, which is infuriating, but it’s what they should do. But instead, we will Wade in the pools of mediocrity like we have been doing. This team is the definition of insanity

They won't be rebuilding but we might as well retool - shuffle the pieces completely.

Trade Boeser, Garland, Myers, Pearson, Bo and Miller, OEL only if you can. With picks that we get from the Miller and Bo trades, use them to off-load bad contracts like Myers and Pearson if we can't flip them to contenders.

Strange they wouldn't include Hughes as an untouchable and a bit of a stupid message to the team by management if true.

They won’t rebuild but they should and they should rebuild around Petey and Hughes with everyone else being expendable. The last thing we should do is retool, that’s what we’ve done over the last 8-9 years and it’s worked out terribly. Had we just started a rebuild instead of the retool nonsense we would be in a much better situation with our young players and cap

you can't play what ifs when you evaluate trades.  I think they would have cut bait with Tanev regardless........he simply couldn't stay healthy in Van and I don't think they were willing to pay a player the kind of money CT wanted to sit on IR for big chunks of the season.  Schmidt didn't work out and never seemed like he fit in to the dressing room very well.  Not many here were sad to see him go.

Had they not traded for OEL, they'd be far, far worse off than they are now and would probably have had to overpay a lesser dman to fill that spot.

You say you can’t play “what ifs” and then you go and play a “what if” saying we’d be in a far worse position had we not traded for OEL. This team would be in a much better spot had they not traded for OEL. Ownership and management groups have done an awful job of building this team for far too long now. We were on the verge of losing bad contracts and being in a better space and then dumb JB goes and brings OELs terrible contract on the books while moving a 1st (which is what this teams needs more then anything, effective ELCs)

My 2nd team has been the Avs since the Forsberg/Sakic/Roy days, so I got that going for me!

As a kid I liked the Avs as well but I don’t really have a second team I root for in the NHL anymore, come playoff time I pick the team with the most players I like to determine who I want to win each series. The Avs, another team that got it turned around from the ground up during our never ending re tool haha

Yep, they should all be feeling the heat right now.  Even ownership to be honest.  Can't speak for anyone else but I know I'm not paying money for tickets and keeping my son up late (for him lol) to go and watch this team right now.  I'm willing to buy Canucks tickets and merchandise when it's fun.  Currently it's anything but fun.  If there's others feeling the same way as me then that directly impacts revenue.

Canucks ownership is awful. FA has hurt this team and looks like he has no intention of stopping anytime soon. Other teams have started rebuilds after we started to “retool” and have already done the hard work and have bright futures where as we are still in no man’s land. Such a frustrating team to love. What a bad decision my 4 year old self made when I committed to this team almost 30 years ago haha. They say the definition of crazy is doing the same things repeatedly and expecting different results each time. FA is crazy and unfortunately it trickles down from the top and the team is a mess.

I appreciate the posts that show all the players, who are going to potentially be there for us at 15.  As for Geekie, isn't he the guy who struggle to skate?  Very smart, but has heavy feet.

Skating is a big issue of his but so is his effort level. He’s not always engaged and doesn’t have that “want” level that you prefer to have in prospects. He’s great in the offensive zone but he’s not a guy I want, if we stick at 15 he’s one of few players that could potentially be there that I do not want

  12. This team DOES need to trade a big piece. Not because of performance necessarily but because the salary cap and cap issues are both real things and asset management needs to be a priority, especially for a team with as weak a prospect pool as ours. We aren’t in a position to give JT Miller a monster contract that runs through his mid and late 30s, that’s not good business for this team. So if you can’t sign him you’re foolish not to trade him, maximize his value and add a combination of a young player/prospects/picks that can help this team add depth and ELCs to contribute to success.

  13. Columbus isn’t moving Sillinger in a trade for Miller and they’re probably a hard no on Johnson too but they still have enough pieces to make a real intriguing offer. Peeke is a piece the Canucks should be bullish on in a potential Miller return. Peeke, Texier, 12 OA and then one of a 2nd in ‘23/Marchenko/Chinakhov would be a real nice return for Miller with 50% retained

I ain't trading Miller to LA without Clarke coming back. I don't want to play against Miller all the damn time. I think if the Schneider deal was on the table it would have happened already.

I know Schneider wasn’t in the deal but that’s the only way I make a move with the Rangers, I’d look to revisit that and see what happens this off-season. Clarke is obviously the piece you want I just don’t see the Kings parting with him. If we get a good enough package I’m fine trading Miller in the division and LA can put a package together I’d be happy with while excluding Clarke. If Clarke is in the deal then that’s obviously the move to make from the Canucks stand point

I feel like the play is to be patient and draft our own. Moving Miller in a package to NJ for 2OA or Philly for 5OA doubt Nemec/Jiricek will be there by Ott 7OA if we could walk away from this draft with.

    Nemec/Jiricek

    15OA Lian Bichsel

Teams may have to eventually take us seriously.

If we move Miller we will have to get Horvat some help in the dot. Preferably a defensive C pk specialist. We need Horvat to make this his team to do so he needs more offensive opportunity.

We also need a defensive LD. So ya were back in the Benning ages of overpaying bottom 6ers. But our top 6 is weak af without Miller they will need to be propped up with grinders.

I think we should draft our own as well but I don’t think we are getting either of those picks to land Nemec or Jiricek. We will have to take shots at RHD with later picks this year and make a concerted effort to draft a couple a year and hope a couple

develop into what we need over time. In the short term I think you look to add Schneider++ in a Miller trade to the Rangers or Faber/Grans from the kings, maybe you get stupid lucky and land both of them or one of them and Durzi in a trade

I would say our D are better at least for now the pipe is scary though.

We need a shut down C and LHD.

RHD is a huge area of need but we'd have to pay through the teeth for that.  We will have to address it via draft or trading a high profile player.

It is real tough to land those RHD so hopefully if a Miller trade is made we get the one we want out of the Rangers or we can move him to LA for one (fingers crossed for 2) of theirs

Lian Bichsel is the guy we need sure there will be other good players available but Bichsel is the guy we need period.

After we take Bichsel we need to get a 2nd and draft  Reid Schaefer kid's a meat grinder who can play top 9

Bichsel is almost exactly what we need, the only way he would fit what we need any better is if he was RH. His wingspan is absurd and his defensive game is strong and there’s untapped potential offensively. I’d be over the moon with him but would not be surprised if he continues to jump up draft boards and surprises some on draft day. I hope he’s available at 15

Sorry, I think you're pushing sh!t uphill here.  There hasn't been a dman like Makar in a long, long time

Makar is on a different level, he’s the Orr or Coffey of this generation, just in a league of his own and it’s special to watch. I absolutely love Hughes but there’s no debating he’s equal to Makar. Makar is in a top tier by himself of young Dmen and then you gotta put Adam Fox as the next best young Dman and Hughes falls into a group behind Fox

Turcotte looks like he might be a bust.

I’d be interested in Grans more than Faber. Could you imagine if we could get both Grans and Faber??

That would be great if we could. I think Turcotte has actually looked pretty solid in the AHL in his stints there over the last couple seasons, he’s still young and could pop so I’d be in favour of adding him with one of those Dmen but if given the option I’d take the 2 Dmen

That is true but they do have an abundance of talent. Maybe that's the one piece they say heck go for it. He might be a price they are willing to pay for a piece it looks like they are missing.

I hope they make that move I just don’t see it happening. Fingers crossed though

Florida is in a bad situation.  The team as a whole played badly in the playoffs and their stars never showed up.

The team is aging, they have a mediocre prospect pool and they traded off most of their 1st and 2nd round picks

for the next 3 years.  Looks like they were 'all in' for this year's playoffs and it didn't work.

In a pathetic way, JT might be the best answer for this pathetic bunch.  He has a record of passion, leadership

and clutch.  He just might be able to light a fire under these players.  The problem is, the Panthers have so

little to trade other than a veteran player for cap space. Maybe trade Sam Reinhart to access cap $ and probably

    another player as well.

If they want Miller, the return would have to be Lundell.  Probably be straight up (he's that good).  Maybe take

Bennett as a semi cap dump.  He's too pricey for a 3C, but he could ride along with Pete for protection and

to help with the C duties.  Lundell could probably fill the 3C spot (he's just that good)!!!

I agree they’re not in the best situation with aging players and a mediocre prospect pool, that’s just another reason I can’t see them making that move. If they were willing I’d be all in on it, I’d be extremely happy I just don’t see it as being very realistic, but we shall see!

  22. 8 minutes ago, Alflives said:

I'd love if we could trade Miller for Lundell.  We would need to take back a cap dump too though.

Maybe Miller + Garland for Lundell + Reinhart?

Lundell would be the dream scenario but Florida would be crazy to move him, he just had an excellent rookie season and is only going to get better with 2 more seasons on his ELC. If that trade happened I’d have to pinch myself and would be over the moon but unfortunately I think I’d wake up shortly after haha

Yeah. I guess. I’d like to see what LA would be asking for Clarke, if not Miller. I find it hard to believe that a 99 point player, who is just 30, couldn’t get a deal done.

Clarke’s also an unproven prospect, while Miller is proven in the league. If we had to add, how much more would we have to add?

I don’t think we would have to add to get Clarke for Miller, if the Canucks offered that to LA I assume they jump on it as a 1 for 1 deal. I just don’t see Clarke being 1 of 3 or 4 pieces in a trade. If we could potentially get Grans/Faber and Turcotte in the deal with a pick I prefer going that route and LA could deem that as being too much. We will just have to wait and see

  24. 8 hours ago, N4ZZY said:

Of course Clarke would be preferred. But if LA won’t give him up, Faber and/or Grans isn’t a bad consolation prize. Though, any team trading for Miller should know that they’re getting a 99 point player who is making 5.25M. Is a grade A prospect as part of a package worth that?

It is worth it but if you’re giving up 3 really nice pieces I think you can have him as an untouchable if you’re LA, given Millers age and cost of extension. If he was 26 when his next contract was kicking in then Clarke would be needed in the deal but if he was 26 you also wouldn’t be moving him
