So we offered AHL to a guy, who was 22 amd playing great, when most other top College guys were getting NHL offers?  We were pursuing a playoff spot so had no room on our NHL roster, is what I recall 650 talking about.

Anyway, the kid is 23 and ready for the Bigs.  Hopefully we sign him to play for the big club after his college season. He’s ready.

You are the only person saying we only offered AHL.

The article I showed you says he was offered an ELC, an NHL contract, and he opted to return to Northeastern because he want to compete for a National Championship and his education is very important to him and his parents.

The article you reference and quote says that they have no idea what is going on during the negotiations, in fact McDonough hadn't even finished last year's NCAA season when that article is written, it says so right in the article. It then goes on to HYPOTHETICALLY SPECULATE that instead of offering an ELC we should give him an ATO because on an ELC he wouldn't of been eligible to play in last years AHL playoffs but if we gave him an ATO then he could play in the AHL playoffs last year, then sign him to a 2 year ELC at the start of this season so we didn't burn a year of his ELC last year.

Need to learn some reading comprehension and lay off the scotch and cats.

You are the only one creating a problem that doesn't exist anywhere else except your head. Here is the article from this fall where McDonough EXPLICITLY STATES his intention is to sign with Vancouver this upcoming spring.

Stop trying to remember whatever thing you think you heard the hacks at SN650 say while you were inebriated. They were wrong and just talking to fill airspace, that's literally their job.

That article suggests an ?AHL offer. “sign an entry-level deal that began at the start of the 2022-23 campaign, he could then sign an amateur tryout deal (ATO) with Abbotsford”

Ok, ok, so... context is important here. You conveniently left out the section from the paragraph you quoted where they make it clear they are talking hypothetically with no reference to anything actually being offered by the team.

"Because of McDonough’s age, he’ll be signing a two-year ELC, as prescribed by the terms of the entry-level system. If McDonough were to sign an entry-level deal that began this season, he would burn a year toward unrestricted free agency and be eligible to make his NHL debut over the balance of this season. He would not, however, be eligible to compete for an Abbotsford Canucks team that is playoff bound at the AHL level and seems poised to be a handful, perhaps even a dark horse contender, in the Calder Cup playoffs.

On the other hand, if McDonough were to sign an entry-level deal that began at the start of the 2022-23 campaign, he could then sign an amateur tryout deal (ATO) with Abbotsford and be eligible to participate in the Calder Cup playoffs."

Weird. I've read that article 5 times in the last 10 or so min and don't see that part anywhere in the article from the link I posted. Maybe something is wrong with my browser.

Link?  I looked and can’t find this NHL contract offer.

Here's an excerpt from the CanucksArmy article about it:

Vancouver Canucks prospect Aidan McDonough has decided to go back to Northeastern for his senior year of NCAA hockey, according to multiple sources, but first reported by Rick Dhaliwal.
The Canucks pushed to sign McDonough to an entry-level contract this season, but ultimately, their top forward prospect has elected to return for his senior year.

For the record, an entry-level contract is an NHL contract.

Tanev played for the Flames last year.

More the fact that do you really think Tanev deserved any vote for the Norris. Most of the voters in PHWA are just homer local broadcasters. They vote for the favorites and then they vote for the local guy to give a boost.

Especially when it comes to the Selke, 39 players received votes for the Selke last year, including Horvat and Miller. Do you really believe that Johnny Gaudreau deserves Selke votes? How about JG Pageau? Rasmus Asplund? David Kampf? Sam Reinhart?

Edit: It's just like voting in politics, it's just easier for voters to vote in the guy that won last time unless there is an absolute new favorite that can't be ignored.

    Avalanche regressed tremendously.

Honestly, all due respect to Mackinnon, but Landeskog wears the C on that team for a reason. It's actually really interesting to look at but if you look at only Gabe's point totals since the 2013-14 season, his on ice production directly correlates to Colorado's place in the overall standings. Every time Landeskog has a down year, so do the Avs and when he's hot, they are among the best in the league.

I get that Mackinnon is a big leader on the team, he is with out a doubt their best player (OK, maybe Makar) and, I think, he deserves his new contract. But his point totals don't seem to line up the Avs overall point totals the same as Gabe. They have had good seasons when Mac struggled and have done poorly in seasons when Mac put up decent points.

Bruce wanted him back but Shaw preferred to go to Philly.

“Brad was different. I didn’t want to lose him but obviously he thought he had a better opportunity,” he said. He also indicated that coaching in Philadelphia would be easier for family reasons.

Shaw said he really enjoyed working for Boudreau. He hadn’t really had a role to fill under Travis Green, but under Boudreau he was put in charge of the defence and then later the penalty kill and played a big role in the success the Canucks had over the second half.

“On the family side it really helps being closer to my mother and my in-laws. Both our daughters live on the east coast,” he said.

“I took a job initially I thought I would love but I felt lost. With the coaching change I felt like I had a chance, more functional. I thank Jimmy Rutherford and Patrik Allvin because it gave me a chance to work again,” he told Postmedia from his cottage on Mississippi Lake in Ontario.

Travis Green. The coach that keeps giving.
