I didn’t expect this but way to go! I like it alot!
We can all see that there are trades coming and it will be F for D. That’s what the signings today forces us to do and that is what Jim said was going down. Sign mostly depth, mostly. And trade for D. Garland, Miller and Dipietro look like the guys we’ll move (no surprise there of course) and I sense it will be after these first 2-3 days when things calm down a little bit.

Isn’t this a relatively accurate deal for what he brings? And being signed on the first day of FA it doesn’t sound like huge overpayment to me..

Slow, 50 years old, will play only home games?
Great stuff by Jaromir
I wonder what city he’d call home if we sign him. If it is in the east he might play just 1 game all season
-
Can’t say I know much about him but I like everything Canucks so I gotta like this one too. We need quality depth pretty badly so good job!
-
Here is a guy I would have liked us to take a chance on. Hasn’t worked out so far but I wouldn’t have given up on him yet like Chicago did.
-
That’s the goalie management said they needed for the AHL right there and can come in as backup if needed. Doesn’t automatically mean Dipietro will be gone but it might look like we could move him in a bigger package deal if needed.

Great! How can one not like the signing at that cap hit? We have him for several years at a very friendly price. And if it doesn’t work out he’ll play in Abby. Tho I think he can fill a 4th line spot pretty nicely with the tools that he has and the game he plays.
Very nice indeed! Me likes.

Man, that will look as strange as having Sidney Crosby playing in Nashville or something.

Yet he's done nothing to fix our unreliable d core.
Oh noes, and to think we need to ice the newly formed hockey team tomorrow already

I’m not worried and insist on this management doing good things not jumping the gun. But on the other hand - trades don’t seem to be that hard to make.

Great deal for the Kings!

So much for big changes looming. I'm not impressed with this management whatsoever. What's the game plan here then? Sign Miller to a rediculous contract that creates even less cap? Then ride his 8 year contract out because it's impossible to clear cap anymore? 2030. That's when we'll strike.
How can you (or people here in general) possibly be upset at someone -management group in this case, for something that has not happened? Seems a bir unfair doesn’t it, as it may not occur at all.
The season starts late in the fall and we are a long way from that moment. A lot will still happen on every team between now and then and to my understanding there has been no indication of a 8-year deal for Miller.
Relax everyone.

Toronto had some very good goalies after Potvin in Curtis Joseph and Ed Belfour. Freddy Anderson was also a great number 1 for them, albeit for a few short years.
True, and good of you to correct me. Belfour was good but basically for two years. Cujo I forgot about but that being 20 years ago, I kinda still feel like the trend is that they have been looking for a number one for a very, very long time.
-
Correct me if I’m wrong on this but I feel the Maple Leafs have not had a steady and solid #1 goalie since Felix Potvin. They have been shufflig goalies ever since it feels like. Someone might say he wasn’t solid either but I have nothing against other teams and don’t feel the need to hate rival teams etc so my point is not to put them in the ground with this.
Same goes for the Flyers ever since Ron Hextall.
I might be forgetting someone in between there but it wasn’t Garth Snow in PHI and it wans’t Vesa Toskala in TOR either.

I’ve said this before from time to time - but I wish we’d have it like before when salaries were not disclosed. How much players make or how the team works it’s numbers is none of our business. Term might be relevant so fans know how long they’ll be able to enjoy the services of a player but not the $$ numbers. We should be excited about the on-ice product and not about how many dollars are used as long as we ice a team that can make for good entertainment and gets us into the playoffs.
Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis today announced that the team has re-signed goaltender Curtis Sanford. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

I'll be totally honest, this really worries me. I understand not making a trade simply for the sake of making a trade, but considering the state of limbo our franchise seems to be stuck stuck in, being afraid to make bold moves for fear of doing the wrong thing could be a death sentence.
I don’t think we are 1-2 cap related moves and a few UFA signings away from being a contender so a few quick moves to make fans happy probably isn’t the way to move forward right now how ever exciting that sounds like. Moves will be made and to the management group it probably doesn’t matter if they are made now or in september or somewhere in between when the right deal comes together.

how will the Hawks ice a lineup worthy of playing against this year? this whole intentional 'TANKING' for a generational player is something Bettman has to look into (but won't and ends up affecting the Canucks ).
Kane, Toews and Jones?
I don’t think tanking is a word or a plan used in a big business world. Just fans saying that. But the plan obviously is to start over big time in Chicago. It probably includes drafting higher up but getting a 1st overall is not guarateed so the plan can’t be just about that.
What they are doing from now on is what we should have done when Benning & Co first arrived so the plan is probably better than what we had.
-
I thought he was older than that. I’m so used to him being around and feels like he has been kn the league for a really long time already. 31 is still too early to have to end a career so I hope he can still rehab and return. Maybe take the whole year off?

That is the kinda deal all managers should find. Nothing spectacular but has some good upside and will be easy to fit under the cap.

The more I learn about this kid the more I love it.
Seems like he has some good tools, but more importantly the scouts were really high on him & judging by that video of him as a kid his family has been working towards this his whole hockey life, no doubt he's dedicated. Said on 650 he's training in WPG 5 days a week.
Excited to see his development. 6'4 & some talent, also willing to fight, can't teach that.
Everyone with a generally positive state of mind seems to be excited about our new draft pics and rightfully so. Happy to see that around here and it cannot be taken for granted on CDC.
He seems like a quality guy and has a lot of room to improve still.
All of our draft choices this year look to be longer projects to develop but exciting pics still.

What the F…? That came outta left field and ran me over like a semi. Way to go Jarmo Kekäläinen. He got the job done.
I wonder if he still has room to sign Laine now.
