Tbh I doubt they retire next year. I think they play another few years to see this thing through with the young swedes and up and comers. Likely in a 2nd then 3rd line role and well reduced contracts. If they are smart about it they might catch on our resurgence year ala toronto and edmonton this year. If we can grab a game breaker rookie at the top of next years draft we are well on our way.

Actual size and weight is less important than strength and balance. Every year you are seeing more young players well under 200 doing just fine in the nhl. Speed and skill is what its about... we know this. Happy with this pick.

I could see him being brought in after a year in shl as with dahlen. Would expect sedins to be re-signed for 1 year deals as a mentorship year to bring these kids along. SHL or AHL either way its pro with men. If not maybe just Dahlen to ride shotgun with the twins for a year as 3rd liners.

I agree 100% that puck moving defenseman are incredibly valuable. Anyone who has played forward in organized hockey would agree that your offense is stifled when you don't have dmen able to get the puck out of the zone and in the hands of the wingers on the breakout. I was disagreeing with the statement that offense is only in the offensive zone and defense in the your own end. My point is you begin playing offense in the D zone and vice versa.

Your offensive attack starts on your own end from the moment you regain control of the puck. Goalies that play the puck well can start your offensive attack just like a defenseman. It all starts from a good break out. Thats hockey 101. Just like your defensive scheme ties in to how your system sets up offensively because defensive plays starts in the offensive zone as soon as you have lost possession. Its a positional chess match in all zones. So I have to disagree you.

That Dahlin kids a bloody freak. He might be the mcdavid of defensive prospects. I would be phenomenally excited to land that kid on the 2018 draft. Atleast we know we will be in contention.

Wonder if Vegas will leverage the expansion draft with any of the teams in front to move up. Like say Dallas. Swap picks and not take whoever they want to keep. Or package 2 of their 3 firsts to get into top 3. I would love to even see something like vegas packages 6 and isles 1st for 3rd overall and then dallas trades both picks for Tanev.

I think Vilardi has a nhl ready size and strength as well as nhl ready "board play." He might not be the greatest open ice or off the rush player at the top of the draft but he is going to play a pro game.

Vilardi has grown on me big time. I just see him as a Getzlaf type player. Not speedy but incredibly difficult to handle on his skatea, top notch vision, great agility, and very smart. He always seems to be around the net. Hischier Patrick Vilardi Mittlestadt Glass Makar Thats my order

Tanev and 5th for Barrie and 4th 4th, Subban, cbj pick for #2 Grab hischier. Avs have a dman that can play d. Canucks get their offensive dman. Canucks get future top line centre.

I do prefer us to target a player that has the abiliry to be highly productive offensively. Our prospect stable could use a playmaking centre as everyone knows. However if by 5 we have seen the main guys our scouts could see as offensive catalysts already picked then I am okay with us grabbing another high end dman at 5. No one will be complaining in 3 to 4 years when we have a stacked defense with legitimate top end dmen. A top four having a combo of Joelevi, Stetcher, Hutton, and Heiskanen/Makar/Liljegren would be quite alright by me. Look where Nashville is. If there is anything that wil stand up to an offense like the oilers with all of that speed it is a very mobile puckmoving defense with some hard nose forwards like Horvat and Virtanen. On that note if someone told me last year we would be sitting pretty to draft Liljegren at 5 who would have been upset about that pre-mono?

Other than the past two drafts where the top two picks were dead set for future projections of the first overalls you could argue the previous 6 to 8 drafts the best player of those drafts weren't taken in perfect order 1 2 3. Many of drafts some of the greatest picks have been in the 5 to 10 range.

I could see both Dallas and Colorado picking dmen between heiskanen makar and liljegren as both need to focus on their blue lines.

Patrick Hirschier Mitts Glass Vilardi Either way its a great player. Can't see us taking Heiskanen after how hard JB has been dumped on for OJ despite being a great pick. Also due to the fact we have OJ already. I would also love to see us move up in to the mid first range as well if the chance is there. Tanev trade makes sense on many levels. Free up cap space. Build for the future. Before his ntc is started and allows us to keep sbisa in the expansion draft rather than just losing him.

Wonder if Philly would be open to trading #2 for Tanev and #5.

Also I thought I heard before that he was undrafted in the WHL or a very late draft pick that basically played his way in to the minds of the team and then all the way to where is is today. That is commendable.

Skillee players are always considered more risky than meat and potato guys because people wonder if the skill will translate to a pro game. Now a days its a speed and skill game. Its less of a concern for me now. The same was said of ehlers and nylander which is why virtanen was the pick. This draft we need to replace skill and take our chances.

Lets just get 1 or 2 and not have to worry about this whole debate. Hurry up april 29th. Dont know why they have to wait so damn long and let all of us basement feeders drown in our misery watching playoffs.

I wish they could do a little mini tournament after the nhl season ends and before the draft that would be a best of 5 in the city the draft is held. Sort of like the chl top prospects game but any draft eligible player could play. Top 26 forwards top 15 dmen top 4 goalies. It would be pretty neat to watch a series like this and see how the best of the best do against each other with all eyes on them.
