  1. Really impressive demeanour on this kid. He really has a great perspective. Mindset and character are able to elevate defenseman, and Tanev is an example. Feeling great about this pick and this lid has a bright future in Vancouver. We’ll be seeing lots of interviews in the future I’m sure.
  2. Sj added duclair who has 3m cap hit on expiring deal. I could see them wanting to add him to flip at the deadline. If they can get something to take the contract now then they will have a great trade chip in march. Despite his bad penalties and questionable plays he can be tough to play against and block a lot of shots. Not bad as a 3rd pair guy however is paid as a top pair guy. At the deadline a team will only have to pay 250k range of actual money and if sj retains 50 percent of the cap at the time they could get a 2nd or 3rd pick for their troubles. Flip side I could see the canucks hold him until the deadline for this reason, and then trade him to re-allocate the cap for a player on defense that is a better fit at the time. By then will likely have someone on ltir and be able to make the best of the situation on their own.
  3. I really want Simashev too, but wonder if 11 is better used in a trade down scenario to get a 2nd otherwise offload a contract if around 15-17 is a realistic draft spot for him. I think mgmt would have to see at 11 if there is still 4 or so guys they feel great about in the event simashev gets picked in between.
  4. So Simashev could be a real great partner for Hronek meaning we need to find another solid defenseman to play alongside Hughes. looking st the draft rankings I really think the canucks need to walk away with one of these high end defenseman Reinbacher, Simashev, or Wallinder I’d think in most drafts guys like Simashev and Wallinder would go in the top 5 with their talent. I think unless Dvorsky slides the centremen left at 11 won’t be as valuable in the long run as the dmen left.
  5. I’m overthinking this but this move made me think the canucks are going to take a dman in the draft. Someone they feel confident will be able to come in and contribute at least what OEL would have on their ELC to offset the cost in years 3 and 4 of the buyout money being the highest. Willander/Reinbacher/ ASP here we come!
  6. I really like Danielson and think he could be a great fit behind Petey as a RHC that can take some match ups. Also can play where miller plays on the PP. Watching his tape he has great skill, speed, skating, agility, and power to go with his size. He has a great shot and seems to find good areas of the ice. Plays smart defensively. I haven’t seen enough to tell how he uses his size to provide snarl and not sure on the intensity he brings. Not at all criticizing this, just saying I don’t have the info to form an opinion on that. It does seem like a he was in a situation where he didn’t have the cast around him to boost his numbers. It seemed he was trying to do way too much on his own at times. So I wonder if it’s a natural tendency to hold on to the puck too long or what? He tries a ton of dangles that worked in junior that just won’t work in the NHL, however it does highlight the skill and hands he has. I think there is untapped potential of being in the NHL where he doesn’t have to be the top dog and has great players around him. Combine that with coaching and refining some of the over handling of the puck and he could be a real gem. May be well worth the pick at 11 depending how the top 10 unfolds. Perhaps even trading down a few picks to get back into the second round as well if we feel we can still walk away with this guy.
  7. Definitely get Kane/Gaudreau vibes from this kid.
  8. The NHL is a much different game than the MHL and the scouts look for translatable skills when drafting. Just because dorofyev score more in MHL doesn’t at all mean he will produce better than podz in the nhl. I think podz skillset will work very well in the nhl and I would bet on podz having more of an impact for an nhl team.
  9. It should be based on the fact that teams shelter “retired” players that had long contracts through LTIR. Which is worse? Signing a player within the rules with intention of having him play the contract or have players fail physicals to pay them but not count the cap. Especially when some teams have even gained assets through this procedure. Players association Can’t be happy that this essentially kills potentially 9 million in potential earnings for the players over the next 3 years to dead cap space. i wouldnt be surprised if they did something as they basically allowed devils off the hook when kovalchuk retired away from his contract and went back to KHL.
  10. I think Miller is a great player. My only wish is that those assets were directed towards acquiring a defenseman which i think is a bigger issue for us than our forward group. I don’t mean PK either as the 9 mill cap is not something we need. Regarding Miller there is no doubt our top 6 just for much better. If you appreciate Horvat you will appreciate Miller. I just hope that we can find a way to use our depth of middle six guys or cap space to bring in a RD.
  11. This allows us to move sutter easier. eriksson will be gone. We have a decent forward crop now but my only problem is that we need to get good young dmen in our pipeline and we could have used our firsts over the next two years for building our defense. Maybe this trade allows us to move virtanen for barrie now that we have a better version on Virtanen in Miller.
  12. Also stoked about rolling petey and bo at centre and being able to alternate podkolzin and brock on any given night winger - petey - boeser winger - bo - podkolzin
  13. Both him and tree will probably come in for 2020-2021
  14. Would have been mad if we took podz ofver zegras but once zegras went i was impartial on the next few guys and think podz is great value.
  15. I wish but theres no way in hell. eriksson situation is only slightly less terrible than the lucic situation. I think we would be lucky if they would give us a 2nd or 3rd rounder in the swap to be honest.
  16. Perry was once a “teenage dream” of mine to be in van. His career has been “Hot n Cold” Now Im guessing he’ll be “waking up in vegas” keep the door open gents.
  17. Whats the deal with the american dman Fensore. Is he eligible this year? Looked really good in the u18 on the right aide. Good vision and really good mobility.
  18. Colorado has a filthy defense going forward. If they add Byram it just wont even be funny. They have Barrie, Makar, Girard, Johnson and Timmins on the way. Would be without a doubt the best top 6 in the league in a year or two especially adding Byram. But i think there could be a possibility that they would consider moving the pick. I think they would like to add depth up front in their top 9. Virtanen, Dipietro and our number 10 for number 4 overall? I know its a lot to trade to move up 6 spots but thats usually what you gotta do to move up. If there was a year where it might make sense it might be this year because the forwards between 4-10 are relatively equal so if avs prefer a forward over defense then it is almost a no brainer for them to do a trade down. They could probably grab boldy or krebs at 10 and still grab another dman with their 2nd first. Avs would be looking deep with adding a stud goalie prospect, virts speed fits their style well, and still have two solid firsts to work with.
  19. Seems to play as more of a distributor from what I have watched of him. Patient player with great instincts and vision.
  20. Only way i would do it would be our 1st this year, 1st next year, and one of joelevi or virtanen for 1st overall. Thats the only way I could see NJ consider it with out including a roster stud. Steep price since its likely a lottery pick next year which could be equivalent of 3 top 10 prospects for 1.
  21. In the past couple years I have been more team tank than this year and worried so much about how every point we gained lost us possible percentage points in the lottery. I am at the point now that I don’t care win or lose just let the chips fall how they fall. Lottery has proven to be a crap shoot and its been funner watching our guys play well. If we end up 5 or 13 I don’t care much as there is good players throughout round 1-2. I’m not going to watch the lottery this year. Be nice to grab a top 3 with some luck but I am basically just going to assume we drop at least 1 spot maybe 2 from wherever we actually finish and be good with that.
  22. Well he would have been our leading scorer every year since hecame in to the league including this year with Petey. it would be a mistake for us to nottake a swing at signing this guy. There is one thing that makes teams better and that is better players. Our team has been piss poor offensively for way too long now. Panarin would round out our top 6 and allo us to have a dynamic attack. Go all our for this guy and focus our team around bo brock petey pan and hughes.
  23. This would be great if he ended up one of our players. If not im not so excited about this thought.
