A famous person? No, I haven't stumbled upon that. I had the aforementioned Colonel Sanders in the game, but like I said, I created her and put her in the "character pool" to be potentially generated for a play through.

It's weird though, because she was the best character I've had in that game, Taking miracle shots, and leaving no soldier behind. The perfect soldier. Also in Enemy Unknown, there was a "hero" soldier that emerges out of your pool, who has that psionic powers that can be unlocked. It's not too rare, or exclusive to one person, but it was quite perfect that she's the only one that had it in my first play through of the game. My favourite thing in this new game is bringing a version of her back from scratch.

The thing that is weird is that in this new game, despite zero connection to the previous one, she's again the best soldier I have, thrown the hardest into danger, dodging it all, and killing everything. Love the coincidence.

And I love this new character pool option.

I've already had my whole squad die off, and I'm in a mission right now where I'm finding it really difficult. Raiding this ADVENT base and you have to obtain this liquid green stuff. There's a turret on the base, and also one of those white mechs. I just keep dying no matter what I do, and I just keep reloading a save because I'm tired of starting from scratch and having to wait all those days to recruit more because I have no money.

But yeah, I had Ewan McGregor. He had a UK voice and sounded like him too. It was odd. Did no editing whatsoever.

That's XCOM in a nutshell. You lose people. Unless you go back and load saves to avoid it. But played fairly you will. Especially if you have no XCOM experience to begin with.

They'll ease you in, for sure. Would help if you played Enemy Unkown, but they're operating under the assumption that many haven't even touched that.

Sometimes I head into missions with a designated sacrificial lamb. Can be a necessity, if the mission is hard enough. Sometimes I save my favourites, except for my most efficient, who I send out at any possibility.

One issue I have with the game, that I forgot to mention earlier, is that they took away the "Second Wave" options that they had in the first game, so you can't tweak certain mechanics, like the one making new soldiers generated with varying stats, or the one that greatly varies their growth potential. I hate it when every soldier starts with the same stats, and really only has the value you for whatever reason place on them. It's cool having great soldiers, as well as crap soldiers.

Played it for a couple of hours last night. I had my whole squad wiped out in like the 3rd mission. But it let me restart and the 2nd time it was only 1 new recruit that died.

I'm loving the game so far though. Definitely getting the hang of things now that I know what I'm doing.

Yeah, I was going to offer my thoughts, in particular because you asked for them.

But if you already bought the game, my job here is done, lol.

It's a good purchase though, you'll enjoy the game. It is only a PC exclusive for now, but if it's popular enough, I can see them porting it eventually for consoles. Strategy games by default are built for PC.

I'd say for a short summary, I really like the game. Soldier customization, and being able to create my favourites from my best XCOM EU campaigns to be incorporated into this new game, like my all time favourite Colonel (Amy) Sanders, is the best. Soldiers look and seem more human now.

It feels overly familiar in some ways, but the "ambush" hidden attack gimmick is my favourite change to the gamely, as it effects the game greatly, in a positive way. Adds an element of strategy in stealth to it.

It's odd, because the biggest change of pace is... well, the increase in pace. I was so tempted to hide and inch my way through maps. You're really forced to throw your soldiers at the situation more now. No hiding, and no wasting turns.

So yeah, loving it so far.

I heard it's a lot harder this time around as well. I'm looking forward to, and also not looking forward to having to risk soldiers knowing they could die.

  4. I ended up buying XCOM2. For some reason I figured it was also on PS4 so the only reason I was iffy about buying it was because it was using actual money.

But, it's PC exclusive and I have a bunch of cash in my Steam Wallet....so I just bought it. Looks like a game I'll love. It'll be awhile to download though so probably not playing it tonight.

If you guys haven't picked up Helldivers free on PS+ yet, do it. It's a pretty sweet game, I actually bought it when it came out and I really enjoyed it.

I almost forgot. I remember when it came out I wanted to buy it but just didn't get around to it. Glad it's free now. :P

I saw someone about to buy it at Wal-Mart the other day. I had to inform them it's free on PS Plus.

Man, I went to go get my Destiny off of my brother tonight because I FINALLY want to play it again. But nope, he traded it in. Owes me a game now.

I mean it got to the point where Boxing Day sales for not only PC, but console games were outshining them.

Like I said, AAA games were just one thing, but the minute after the sale ended, there were at least 6 items that did one of three things. They went on sale for the same price they were on the winter sale, they went for cheaper than they were on the winter sale, or they went on sale despite not being on sale at all during the winter sale.

It is a problem with the size of their userbase right now, so it's pretty much like I said, they don't have to try to convince anyone to come to these sales and use Steam anymore. Now that the people are here, they can begin to repeal what brought them there, because those people aren't leaving.

On a different note, there's a humble bundle out there for FMV games, for those that have nostalgia for such things (based on the way that new FMV games are fairly quietly received, and how multiple FMV reboot kickstarters have failed, not many). But There's a couple of decent new games, and a couple of classic ones available. It's bizarre, because all of the classic games are stuck to DRM in Steam form. yet the newer ones are for whatever reason DRM-free on GOG. It's supposed to be the other way around, but whatever.

Her Story itself seems like a decent enough reason to get it for me, so tossing in everything else (like every Tex Murphy game) makes it likely easily worth the while.

It's $5 US though, so with how much the CAD keeps dropping that's getting less and less appealing, lol (it's almost an extra 50% at this point).

Her Story seems like an amazing concept for a game.

I got an email with a code for 1 day of PS+. Thank you for your generosity based Sony.

They were down again for a little bit as you probably know. You should be very thankful for this extremely generous offer from Playstation giving back to you.

Should I deactivate my ps4 as my primary, before reformatting it / sending it to sony

I don't have any experience with PS4 issues, but for the PS3 I had a few go bad. Yeah, whenever you send it into Sony and it gets reformatted, there goes one of your consoles that you can have your account on. For the PS3, I remember I was allowed to have my account activated on 5 consoles. Because my PS3's went down so many times and I forgot which friends I had my account on, I did end up getting a PS3 in the end that didn't allow me to have my account on it.

What happened was, I had to call Sony and get them to reset my account from being activated on all those 5 consoles. They deactivated it from all the consoles and I was once again able to use my account on a new one. But, they said it's only a one time thing. They can only reset your account like they did with mine one time.

I agree, it doesn't make much sense how you can't get Sony to deactivate it more than once. Basically, that means if you use your account on 10 consoles you're screwed. The only reason I used up so many of my activations wasn't even my fault, since it was the console breaking. One of those was a console that Sony sent to me which was refurbished which only lasted 1 week.

Damn, it's been almost a year since I bought a physical copy of a game. I buy everything off the PSN store now, and usually just delete the games I don't play so I always have space on my HDD. I'm probably going to have to buy an external HDD soon though.

Also how do you like NFS?

Still haven't gotten it yet. The one I ordered was off Amazon USA so it's going to be after Christmas that I get it.

I know 100% that I'll like the game though. I've watched gameplay videos etc and I love the way the customization looks now.

  10. I'm a little disappointed that I bought NFS from Amazon for like $40 last week, and now it's less than that on PSN. I guess I want the physical copy anyways though since my PS4 already is hovering near max HDD. Although with Amazon I don't get it right away like I would if I just downloaded it off PSN. Ah, well.

Mang, TLoU online is difficult  because I only have one day's experience and not familiar with all the maps. Plus people have unlocked better weapons, etc. It's amazing too how many times I'll shoot someone and not kill them but they'll blow me away in one shot. I've been left jaw dropped more than a couple times. I didn't think one shots were kills unless in the head.

And is the bow auto aim? What the hell is the deal with that. Some dude sniped me from a football field away with it.

I wish the games were auto balanced to make the teams more fair because sometimes it's so one sided it's pointless. But I guess that's the reality of having to pick firefly or hunter prior to playing.

Yeah, you definitely need to unlock some better weapons before you truly start to get somewhere in online. Also no, the bow is not auto-aim. I'm assuming that guy who sniped you probably has been playing the game for a long time. At least I don't think it is now...I haven't played in like a year though.

  12. Yeah....I really miss those days where you would rent the games that you know you can beat in a week.

Games like Assassin's Creed or Batman, I know 100% I could play the crap out of them for 7 days straight and beat them so I used to just rent those. I don't get replayability out of those kinds of games. Finish the story and other quests I feel like, then I'm done with them.

Nowadays you have to commit to buying games.

Recently I ordered Need for Speed off of Amazon.com for like $40 after shipping to Canada and taxes. They had a sale there and I've wanted it from release but not for like $90 here after taxes.

  13. Even Dying Light I got bored of, myself. Probably just not my kind of game. I played it for like a week and traded it in when I bought Bloodborne.

Day Z I got a ton of playing time out of, even though it has as many faults as it does.
