  1. Brendan Gaunce Retweeted Dallas Smith ‏@dallassmith 8h8 hours ago Thank you @BoHorvat and @BrendanGaunce16 for not letting Nikita Tryamkin kill my friend after stealing the hat off his head. #deathwish wonder what the story behind this is.

  4. if they think hes a player next year id be bringing hamhuis back to pair with him. edler-tanev hutton-sbisa(ugh) hamhuis-tryamkin pedan-larsson in pressbox (carry 8 D)
  5. yep, it is pretty nice to see some drafted prospects actually have NHL potential. Really liked how he played at the world juniors so hopefully he can bring more of that at this level.
  6. that is shocking to me, he was a force in that game seemed like the puck followed him around, very impressive that he was that noticeable in only 11minutes of icetime.

    Anton Rodin | RW/LW

funny how quickly people forget the issues this kid went through the first two years he was in NA. This has been posted a thousand times but i guess it needs to be posted again. " But not so fast. Nagging, chronic shoulder tendinitis was so bad in parts of last season Rodin couldn’t shoot. Dave Gagner, the Canucks director of player development, said it could impact his chances of playing in the AHL. “With his shoulders, he gets a little bit sore and it affects his shot and passing and things like that,” Gagner said. “We just have to see how this summer progresses for him. The plan is for him to be over here and play in our American League team this year.” Rodin has seen several specialists and it’s believed the tendinitis will go away, although there is no timetable. The problem, they’ve concluded, is that the growth plates in his shoulder haven’t closed. The growth plate is made up of cartilage which is more vulnerable to injury than mature bones. There is a growth plate at the part of the humerus closest to the shoulder. It’s limited Rodin in some areas, including some aspects of conditioning. “It does slow it down a little bit for him because he played last year and there were periods of time where he couldn’t shoot the puck,” Gagner said http://blogs.theprovince.com/2011/07/07/canucks-top-prospect-slowed-by-ongoing-shoulder-problems/ so is it really that surprising that you wernt "impressed" with him in his first stint in NA?
  8. great game, crazy comeback team showed a lot of heart. Whats wrong with greg olsen?
  9. https://pbs.twimg.com/tweet_video/CS7-rhSWsAA5j4Z.mp4 Didnt know brisebois had this in him. I got a chance to talk to him at the summer summit this year and he was talking about the pressure from the Eddie trade. Hopefully with more plays like this the fanbase will get behind this kid.
  10. fair enough, but there are many different models in between the Ferrari and the scrapheap that have all achieved success.
  11. not sure what people were expecting this year. They are playing 5 young players every night in virt, mccann, hutton, horvat, baert. For the team to be in the mix in the pacific division after 18games with 1/3 of your roster having limited to no NHL experience is quite good in my books. Figured people would lay off these kids when Benning said they kept them so they could better control their development. To me that was a pretty clear message that they knew they wernt quite ready, but felt they had the best chance to learn and grow here with our coaches.
  12. that is why you dont draft goalies in the first round, there is way too much volatility with the position since most draft eligible goalies do not get proper coaching and foundational skills and basically have to recreate their game when they turn pro. Even price had to do this multiple times until you get what you see today, although his skating & crease movement is really the hallmark of his game & is what sets him apart which is all natural gifts and hardwork by whoever taught him at a young age. I would expect a college goalie to actually fare much better at the transition from amateur to pro since topend athletic programs in the US have craploads of money to spend on proper coaching and they have much more practice time & hopefully goalie specific practice time (which is by far the most important factor to proper development for a goalie. yes it is more important than games) what you are seeing from thatch this year most likely is just the fact that his hips rotate which for a goalie is kind of important( understatement of the year). We shall see when he turns pro how well he is able to apply new techniques to his game and modify his style which is the key determining factor for most young goalies as they turn pro. From what ive seen of Thatch which albeit isnt much ( i could be way off i havent seen him at all this year just world juniors and the beanpot) he has some glaring technical issues in his game he will have to change if he wants to be a topend goalie. At least we know he will have quality coaching and lots of training time with the Comets with their light travel schedule which should allow him to fastrack his development. Just dont be surprised if he really struggles out of the gate in the AHL like schneider did as they make the dramatic changes to his style that are necessary at the pro level. http://theahl.com/stats/gamebygame.php?seasonId=12&id=2074 schneiders stats from his rookie year in the AHL you can see it took him 3-4 months to really adapt his game to being pro-level and i would argue schneider was a much more polished goalie at the world juniors technique wise than what i saw from thatcher last year. Not trying to discredit Thatch i think he is going to be a very very good goalie as i think he has the ability to learn and adapt. Just want to stop the pitchfork crowd who will probably be rearing its ugly head early next year when he turns pro.
  13. there is some small protection in place for 1st round NCAA players if you make a concerted attempt to sign them and they refuse you get a 2nd round compensation pick where the player was taken.
  14. thanks searched for this for 4-5 hours after the draft.
  15. see pk do this 20times a year in montreal, but hey lets just blindly hate on the kid not his fault Lack got traded.
  16. i think he has a lot of hidden value much like frank corrado, both played on horrific teams as steady two-way dmen. Pretty tough to stand out when your getting killed every night and arent a flashy offensive player. We shall see but i think he might turn out a lot better than a lot of people think.
  17. sorry to cherrypick your post, but i think you hit the nail on the head with this statement. Good teams need balance is probably the best argument for why the canucks took virtanen over nylander. They probably felt he was so unique in his skillset there wasnt another player like him in the draft that you could get at a lesser level and hope to develop. Skilled centres are littered through the draft obviously not to Nylanders level but the petan's beauvillier's and johnson's are available outside of the top10 on a consistent basis and then you hope to develop that. Can you really blame them for taking the most dynamic player in the draft who if he hits his ceiling has the potential to dominate in every facet of the game. Granted his chances of reaching that potential are a lot lower than Nylanders but you cant blame them for swinging for the fences.
  18. cersei's was definitely different in the book, GRRM(author): "I think the "butterfly effect" that I have spoken of so often was at work here. In the novels, Jaime is not present at Joffrey's death, and indeed, Cersei has been fearful that he is dead himself, that she has lost both the son and the father/ lover/ brother. And then suddenly Jaime is there before her. Maimed and changed, but Jaime nonetheless. Though the time and place is wildly inappropriate and Cersei is fearful of discovery, she is as hungry for him as he is for her. The whole dynamic is different in the show, where Jaime has been back for weeks at the least, maybe longer, and he and Cersei have been in each other's company on numerous occasions, often quarreling. The setting is the same, but neither character is in the same place as in the books, which may be why Dan & David played the sept out differently. But that's just my surmise; we never discussed this scene, to the best of my recollection." Drogo's i think was pretty well explained in the tv show if you go back and watch those episodes when Dany learns to "seduce him". That is just how dothraki behave towards women and how it was written in the book from what i remember. edit: added link to article http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2014/04/game-of-thrones-author-weighs-in-on-rape
  19. what most people fail to realize is that prospects score goals in many ways in junior that just never go in on NHL goalies or defenseman. Then there is some like horvat, landeskog and their game just translates right over because they score and play an NHL style game that isnt the most effective offensively in junior. That is why this fanbase has issues in my opinion it is a fairly young fanbase in terms of growing up with hockey generation to generation so that base of knowledge just isnt there to be passed down the line. Instead people rely on statwatching because its the easiest metric to use, just like our " vancouver redlight metric" to always blame goalies no matter what because its simply easier than understanding the nuances of the game. I know im guilty of this same thing when i watch football im always blaming the QB for getting sacked, because i have no clue that the DE blew the AGAP and the LT f'd it up. Its just easier.
  20. that was my thought, although i do understand it from the CHL/WHL as they are kids and they need to do all they can to eliminate head injuries.

  22. yeah im not sure thats a suspendable hit in the NHL, he started very low and extended through his legs without leaving his feet. principle point of contact looked like it was more chest and then rode up to his head. No clue how he got a charging penalty for that. Hard to tell from the video though the quality isnt great.
  23. I dont know how to make a gif like that but the highlight is up on the ahl website, under highlights. http://ahl.neulion.com/ahl/video/utica-comets-vs-rockford-icehogs/12089 was a really nice 1 touch pass to conacher in the slot was on and off his stick in a hurry right on the tape beauty pass.
  24. I doubt hed go top5 MDC had a pretty good season, id say hes in the same range he was in predraft 6-10.
  25. ya id say that is a pretty fair assessment of the trade situation. In retrospect schneids probably shouldve been jettisoned at the 2011 deadline like hodgson in order to maximize his value. With that being said with the way this team drafted at that period of time im not sure an extra draft pick used on the likes of a honzik or mallet wouldve made an iota of difference to this organization going forward. At least we got the extra first in a very very deep draft.
