Excellent low risk signing for Montreal. They were a better team when he was healthy and playing last season. Playing through a broken foot caused a groin injury. Hopefully he can stay healthy this season

I have yet to see anything more than reporting that amounts to click bait. It's all speculation by reporters who get paid to get clicks to their sites or columns.
There are very few trades going on right now, that's normal for this time of year, it doesn't really kick in until they all get together for the draft. Until then, it's all positioning.
I doubt that teams will find many guys who can put up numbers that Garland is capable of for under 5 million per season. Cap will be tight again this summer, but teams will still overspend and once the skimpy options are gone, they will look at other possibilities.
Canucks are no longer in a "Must make trade" situation. We have too many wingers still, but we are no longer desperate for cap space, which teams were likely (speculation) trying to take advantage of with Canucks.
Of course it’s from reporters. Almost everything is. I find it amusing how people take the reports that they want to hear as gospel and dismiss the ones they don’t want to hear as pure speculation. The truth lies somewhere in the middle. Reporters hear things and speculate and the meaning. Garland has reportedly been on the block for a while. Maybe Vancouver has a bit more leverage now that they have some breathing room cap wise. But Garland doesn’t seem to be an asset that’s in demand

To Chi Garland
To Van 2nd rd pick they have 4
To Jets Boeser
To Van Lowry & Dillon
To MTL Beauvillier
To Van Armia
To NJD Podkolzin & 3rd 2023 Tor
To Van Sharangovich, Foote & Graves
We add size and some more toughness to the lineup
There are reports that teams are asking for assets to take Garland. I seriously doubt Vancouver can get a 2nd for him
Montreal probably takes that deal. They don’t really need another undersized middle 6 winger but it gets them out of Armia’s contract a year sooner.
I doubt NJ does that deal. Graves is UFA so it’s just his rights. But the rumour is they’ll walk away from Sharangovich for budgetary reasons. So taking on Boeser’s $6.65m contract seems incredibly unlikely

Anaheim is currently 17 million below the cap floor for next season and are still in rebuild mode, meaning they likely will want to be conservative on how much they spend for at least another year.
To Anaheim
Myers (no retention - assuming 5 million bonus is paid)
2023 3rd round pick (from Toronto)
To Vancouver
2023 2nd round pick
Vancouver gets cap space and moves up 1 round in the draft. Anaheim eats up 6 million of space with only spending one million and gets an asset that they can turn into a 2nd round pick or similar at the trade deadline.
You failed to point out that they only have 15 players signed and that two of their RFA’s are Zegras and Terry. Both of whom will be getting big raises. They arent going to have any trouble hitting the cap floor well before Myers’s bonus is paid out Sept 15.

So clearly management doesnt have any patience
Problem is theyve backed themselves into a corner with this buyout. Theyre clearing enough cap space but incurring a big enough cap hit to improve the club exactly 0%.
Id rather they have done nothing, and waited for OEL to rebound, but alternatively, do EVERYTHING
Assuming Pearson and Poolman ride LTIR all year long
To Toronto:
Demko
To Vancouver:
2023 1st (Bostons)
Knies
Niemela
(Toronto needs a goaltender and they need it now, no more of this matt murray nonsense)
To LA
Hoglander
2023 3rd round pick (Torontos)
To Vancouver
Matt Roy
(LA has a glut of young defensemen who can take roy's place and could use the cap space, esp after signing Gavrikov)
To Boston:
2023 3rd round pick (Vancouvers)
Noah Juulsen
To Vancouver:
Derek Forbort
Boston frees up cap space (they must do so) and gets a decent RD prospect who plays a similar style to forbort
To Columbus:
Vancouver 2023 1st (11oa)
Boston 2023 1st (28oa)
Vancouver 2024 1st (unprotected)
Vasily Podkolzin
To Vancouver:
Columbus 2023 1st (3oa) - and draft Leo Carlsson
To Arizona:
Myers (after bonus is paid)
To Vancouver:
Future considerations
Arizona pays next to no real cash, can retain cap at the deadline, and flip Myers at the deadline to another team for a pick and have him off the books the following year.
UFA Signings:
Graves (5x5)
Acciari (2x 2.5)
Jarry (6x6)
Lineup next year:
Kuzmenko-Petey-Beauvillier
Mikheyev-Miller-Boeser
Joshua-Carlsson-Garland
Studnicka-Acciari-Aman
Hughes-Roy
Graves-Hronek
Hirose-Forbort (Forbort can play the right side)
Better lineup and added Niemela + Knies to our prospect pool
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Goalies don’t get that kind of return
Juulsen is a pending UFA and honestly the kind of guy they can pick up on waivers
There is zero chance Columbus trades 3rd OA for a bunch of lessor mystery boxes.
It’ll cost an asset to move Myers. Even to Arizona

Can the Canucks trade Myers in July but also have in the trade agreement that Canucks will pay for the signing bonus in September?
No

Owners don’t want to make buyouts easier. Also. The cap is based on a 50/50 revenue split so allowing penalty free buyouts would screw up the math and trigger more escrow (which the players don’t want). If a GM screws up on a deal there’s no easy get out of jail free card. Nor should there be.

Some rumors kicking around that C Hart is implicated in the World Juniors scandal. Pure speculation, but will still hurt his trade value to some extent.
Only 8 players from the team never made a statement regarding the incident. Hart was one of the first to make a statement condemning the incident abd he fully cooperated with the investigation. So I doubt he was one of the players involved

I disagree with that assessment, with all due respect.
Regardless. It’s been reported by a solid source that Montreal has no interest in Hart.

No one is saying Montembeault is garbage, he's just not as good as Hart, and that's ok.
And all I’m saying is Hart isn’t a big enough upgrade to give up valuable assets for. Apparently Montreal brass agrees

PLD is signed for one more season. He’s a UFA after this coming year (that he’s signed for) though. So the team trading for him can extend him to a new contract that would begin in the 2024/25 season. If we could move Miller for Dubois then we would have until the 2024 TDL to get him to sign long term. If no success then we’d have to trade him at the TDL. Miller is a great player, who is better than PLD right now.
Dubois in fact in NOT SIGNED for this upcoming season. He’s RFA with no contract for the upcoming season. He has said he will not sign with Winnipeg this year, not even a 1 year bridge that will take him to UFA next summer.
His agent is working with Winnipeg to find a trade to a team that he’s willing to extend with. That list is suspected to be 5-6 teams

PLD for Connor Garland, cap dump for Garland, sign PLD for 1 year, if he doesn't resign, trade him for draft pick
Even as a rental Winnipeg is getting a MUCH better return than Garland

The eye test tells a different story. This is exactly why teams shouldn't trust advanced stats and should evaluate players properly with scouting.
Montembeault looked really good in the second half this year. And just led Canada to gold. I suspect you have a skewed opinion of him.

Because Hart's team completely hung him out to dry.
Goals saved above expected factors in shot quality. And it’s not like Montreal dressed an all star defence in front of Montembeault

Which shows that advanced stats are a terrible way to evaluate players instead of just watching them.
Actually Montembeault ranked about 10th among goalies with 40+ games played. Hart was 12th

Montreal is not interested in adding Carter Hart
New Philadelphia Flyers GM Daniel Brière has told anyone willing to listen that he is willing to take offers on any of his players, including goaltender Carter Hart.
The 24-year-old goalie would be an interesting addition as he is still progressing and could develop into one of the top goalies in the NHL. But even if his age and the Canadiens’ desire to strengthen the organization at the goaltending position could make Hart an interesting target, we’re told the Canadiens will not be exploring this avenue. The exact reason is not entirely clear, but we were told it was a “non-starter.”
from an article penned by Arpon Basu. He covers the Canadiens and is very well connected.

Richards had just signed his deal too, as had Carter. Neither were expecting to be traded.
If I’m not mistaken Subban was traded either before his new 8 year contract started or 1 year in to the contract before his NMC kicked in as well

Montreal is not giving up that much to get him. If he truly wants to play there they can afford to simply wait a year. Winnipeg is under the gun. Also. I think Montreal is interested but not to the point of selling the farm to get him. As has been mentioned. There are red flags with this player.

Having watched both Hart is the better goalie and with a good team infront of him has proven to be borderline elite. Hab fans tend to overvalue their players though so I do get it.
Ignore the advanced stats if you like. I’m not saying Montembeault is better. Only that Hart isn’t a big enough upgrade to waste valuable assets on. Montembeault showed flashes of excellence last season and looks primed to take a step forward.
And every team’s fans overvalues their players.

The Flyers were an absolute tire fire, if not for Hart they would be quite possibly the worst or second worst team in the league. So no, Hart is a better goalie with a completely garbage team in front of him.
The stats I posted factor shot quality and by extension team strength in. Also. Montreal lost overt 750 msn games to injury and dressed mostly a rookie/AHL call-up D all year.
Montembeault and Hart’s advanced stats are very similar. So close that it makes zero sense to give up significant assets to trade for Hart.

Good goalie, bad team in front of him.
Montembeault s advanced stats are all slightly better than Hart’s. Better goals saved above expected. Goals saved above expected/60. and a number of other stats that factor in shot quality. He’s not substantially better. But it’s close enough to be comfortable moving forward with Montembeault over giving up assets to get Hart
