This can be avoided if we trade Horvat Schenn Garland Boeser at TDL. Or at least 3 of the four
That's what I think needs to be done... but not sure this management is ready to bite the bullet.

Forget about Ukraine... send some of those Leopard II's to Vancouver.
(just kidding, Ukraine desperately needs those tanks... and looks like they will get them
)

This is exactly what I was worried would happen.
New Coach bounce, they put together a winning streak... and separate themselves from the bottom feeders and reduce their chances for a high pick to near zero.
Other teams get Bedard and the other high quality players... Canucks get a midrange pick who MAYBE becomes a significant player.

Boeser is making good offensive plays, he is getting his opportunities.
But his shot has completely disappeared.
If he had the opportunities he has had in this game 4 years ago, he'd have goals.
No shooting confidence at all.

Pettersson and Kuzmenko do their best to try to win the game.
Canuck's D do their best to try and lose the game.
Miller has a nice snooze.
Miller needs to have Pettersson on his line to get going... but if you do that, then the creative pair of Kuz and EP are not working together.
Bo is tailing off from his red hot start... maybe he will wake up in the turd.
-
All good... this team doesn't need a new coach... it needs a new D.
-
Not cashing in on opportunities.
PP is big problem.
PK looks better than it did... forwards are attacking the points more, but PP looks just as disorganized.
-
Schenn will be missed if he gets traded.

Fans should not boo Tocchet... he didn't make the decision.
Boo the big cheese up in the team box.

More low percentage passes in their own zone... nearly got burnt.
Need to be more patient, avoid the passes through the middle, etc.
Same old same old.
-
Still sloppy in their defensive coverage during PP... gonna give up more goals that way.
-
Meaningless game which we can only hope the Canucks lose... while maybe some of the keepers on the team have good performances.

I don't think Tocchet's gambling conviction should be held against him.
After that happened, he went on to be a successful assistant with Pittsburg under Rutherford... with no sign he had reverted to any of his gambling ways.
He was re-hired at Arizona many years later as a head coach... which tells you there was confidence he had not fallen back into any bad habits.
The issue is his lack of success as a coach, not his gambling conviction.

What was Mike Sullivan’s record of experience when he went to Pit as HC? Tocchet’s path to us is very similar.
Sullivan had an exceptional record coaching the Bruins AHL team.
Then his first year with the big club he had a good winning record... but was eliminated in the playoffs.
Next year he had a losing record... and was fired.
But was that his fault? Or were the Bruins in transition to the team which won the Cup vs the Canucks? And therefore working out the bugs?
His overall record was much better than Tocchet.

I haven't said anything positive about this coaching group because fundamentally I think Management should have waited till summer to replace BB... replace the assistants, not head coach.
I think they should have let the team continue its trajectory and get the draft picks.
Putting that aside... as far as my assessment of this new staff:
Tocchet has not shown much as a head coach... his years in Arizona were a disaster... although you have to say the team was not good. On a positive note, yes he was a good player... very solid never quit guy who was force in the locker room... maybe that translates here in building a new culture. But based on his results... not much shown.
Adam Foote was a tremendous player... a real warrior who knew how to play defense in and out. Jersey retired in Colorado... So that is good. Is he a good coach? He's only had a coaching track record in Junior... which is a far cry from the NHL. So the jury's out.Sergei Gonchar was also a very solid D. He has a better track record in coaching... being an assistant with the Russian National team. Of course, Russia is not the NHL, and the Russians have underachieved for the last 10 years in International play.
So basically we have three guys with not much of a track record as coaches... who were all excellent players. So was Gretzky... and we know where that went.
Management has made its decision... now they will have to live with the results.
I think if this coaching group doesn't work out... then Management should take the fall.

I am not going to say Bruce was my first choice for coach after Green was fired.
But he did a great job in his first year.
And if management had actually procured some decent improvements in defensive personnel in the off season, maybe his second year would have been better.
But they did nothing... the band aid solutions they presented him with to start, (Stillman) and then the second band aid, (Bear) were no where near the caliber which was needed.
Ad to that, Bruce ran into some bad luck... the only player who could have saved the team defensively, i.e. Demko, went down for the count.
Left with two backups as goalies... (who performed well for the first couple games, then fell off the cliff) the inevitable decline began.
Add to that Management's botched player signings... team Captain Horvat with the sword of Damocles hanging over his head in the form of a trade... as well as all the other players without term... and the other key element, which would be team morale... plummeted too.
Any surprise the season was not so good?
No, I don't blame Boudreau... and he deserved better.

My assessment:
The team will see a bounce in the standings... some more wins.
Not enough to get them into the playoffs, but enough to make their chances of getting a top 4 pick impossible.
Which means this entire sh*tshow season will be for nothing... a complete waste.
We won't get a decent pick and we won't make the playoffs.
Congrats to the management team... NOT.

Rutherford expected them to be in the playoffs this season. He extended Miller, Boeser and signed Mikheyev in free agency - those aren't rebuilding moves.
In his recent interview he's talking of re-tooling the roster and not a rebuild. They aren't even targeting draft picks but players further along. He talks of 26 and younger - that's not necessarily prospects on ELCs. He even talks of guys who have struggled on their ELCs and need a new chance. Those 5 others teams went into the season knowing they are in a rebuild - SJS on the fence but got confirmation this year.
I'm not talking about what Rutherford says... he's already admitted he's wrong... I'm talking reality.
This team needs a rebuild... the D is almost all garbage.

Vancouver had different ambitions than these teams heading into the season and will have also a different one heading into next season. They want to make the playoffs. Changing coach now is to start working on the structure so to be ready for next season.
All those 5 teams are in a rebuild. Arizona and Chicago even admitted to actively tanking ahead of the start of the season.
Vancouver is not facing a rebuild? What team have you been watching?

The rest of the team are definitely being affected by the Clown Show which is the management of the team.
But Elias Pettersson continues to keep his composure, focus and work ethic.
I don't think I have seen him put any less effort into his game this last month... he is one of the few bright lights.
And he is also inspiring any one he plays with.
If Bo Horvat does get dealt, then Petey has certainly shown he has the stuff that Captains are made of.

Wow, we actually agree on something.
100% agree. It’s like Boudreau did nothing writing and JR just fired him for fun. Our sh*t on ice product is because we have played with zero defensive structure for the last year and a half. Whatever bump we got last year was gone this year. I’m not saying that the coaches are at fault 100% but this whole it’s all JR’s fault is bs. Boudreau was never his coach. He obviously wanted someone else. He never hired Boudreau. The Penguins played with a lot more structure than these Canucks. Tocchet was there for the cups. So let’s see what he can do with this team.
Yeah, the defensive structure is not there.
But that normally is the job of the Assistants to instill in the players.
Was Bruce responsible for the hiring of the Assistants... we don't know.
In any case, the real problem is the poor quality of the Canuck's back end... our D are really subpar by any independent estimation.
That has been the case for the last 4 years... it should not take a professional, competent Hockey manager long to realize that fact.... and start to focus on acquiring the personnel needed to fill the gap.
Why wasn't that done? Who's responsibility is that?
Management.

There are 5 teams below the Canucks in the standings... Columbus is 9 points behind the Canucks.
Are any of those teams planning on replacing their head coaches in a desperate attempt to make the playoffs????
NO
Why not? Because they know they are out of the playoffs, and realize it is pointless to try to eek out a few extra points by trying for a 'coaching change bump'.
What's the difference with the Canucks? Why can't they wait till the end of the season?
You tell me.

Not sure what games you have been watching, but what I see is Hughes and Pettersson running the PP.
Miller gets very few touches compared to them.

This is what you get when you have an owner who is desperate for full rinks and for the slightest chance of a couple of playoff games.
So the Canucks start on their path to drafting mediocrity once again.
