JB is a general manager.  Green is a coach.  Green is in charge of utilizing the players he's been giving.  I'm sure he advises on other matters as well.  However, JB on the other hand is responsible for who is on the roster and who is not.  Do you really think a coach could put an asset in a position to be removed from the roster without a GM being a part of the decision?

Like I said, totally different with a 2-way contract where Green could send him to the minors without losing the contract.

I'm not in the Canucks meeting rooms but this seems like a pretty obvious one.  Green should be fired if he did this without consultation.

2-way contracts don't have anything to do with waiver eligibility. This isn't NHL 21.

    Besides, Gadj has a 2-way.

I feel bad for the kid... he seemed genuinely sorry for what he did and owned his mistake. You would of thought he was strangling puppies to the way people are punishing him

Not gonna get into an argument with you over this but strangling a puppy is objectively worse in your opinion than what he did to that girl?

He has likely ruined a womens life. Deserves every thing coming to him.

Friedman on his podcast says that he thinks there is already an agreement with Carolina for an extension where his next deal would be less than this 1 year deal - ie he wouldn't sign his qualifying offer but a reasonable extension.  Can only sign in January as the offer sheet is a 1 year deal.

He thinks Montreal was offering a bridge of around 2.5M x 2 maybe even less.  Friedman thinks there's a chance that Montreal might not match - they have Suzuki coming up in  a year.  He says they will probably take those picks around the league and see what they could bring back.  Dvorak could be a target as suggested by Engels.

Kotkaniemi signed well above his value and could get 6M through his RFA years if they match - he just has to sign his qualifying offer every season. They can't trade him for a year.

In my mind this would make Montreal the winners of this transaction. If they end up getting Dvorak with the compensation they get from Carolina they have upgraded at that position. I don't think Kotkaniemi will surpass the level of Dvorak.

Carolina 1st and Ryan Poehling for Christian Dvorak. Wonder if that would seal the deal or if Montreal would have to add.

Dvorak signed to the deal Kotkaniemi probably gets next summer and Dvorak is a great fit for the Habs.

Montreal is set on the left side with Edmundson, Chairot and Romanov. They need a right shot PMD. No interest in Schmidt from Montreal

Schmidt plays the right side and is better than all three of Edmundsson, Chiarot and Romanov.

It does make sense and the rumors are out there for a reason.

I would take Montreals 3rd 21 and 2nd 22. I think both teams would be happy with that. Schmidt is a great fit in Montreal.

  5. Jarmo is really kicking a** today. Great trade.

The return on Jones and avoiding that HUGE contract was another win. He got 3 first rounders and a 2nd round pick.

As of now, the 22 1st has no condition. You know it's gonna be a lottery pick.

Edit: Counting Boqvist as a 1st rounder. I mean Bean was a 1st rounder as well right?

Jarmo and Jim winning the day so far!

  6. In my mind I am hoping JB and the rest have a similar mindset as I do towards this next year. Fix some of the things you are able to now and be patient. We have a lot of cap coming off after next season so I don't really think it makes sense to get rid off Schmidt already. Unless he actually wants out. It just makes sense trading him later on if they feel he isn't a long-term solution.

I am hoping the Dickinson trade is an indication of the type of moves the Canucks are willing to make this off-season. Smart, cheap moves. Wait the cap issues out and we are going to be set-up to make some.

Moving Hughes over to the right side is something that I don't think is talked about enough. He, like Schmidt, can play the right side.

  7. What I would do is field a half-competitive team next year. Sign Hamonic to a two year deal if it's less than 2 mil. Keep the players that make sense at their cap-hit and term.

Wait out this season and the bad deals to come to an end. Do not commit to long-term deals unless they are below market value or core pieces that are releveant in the next 4 years.

Watch the team progress next season and watch your young players develop. Make new evaluations after next season. Have a bunch of cap-space in next years off-season and the flexibility to build a competitive team for the next 5 years after this season.

Basically have the mindset of next year being a progression year for our young players and focus entirely on the long-term.

Don't do much of anything at all this off-season. Basically sit still and watch the dominos fall where they fall. Abuse situations that make sense. Be savy.

I'm not.. drunk.. at all. But yea, just remain calm and look ahead.
