I get that EP is 4 inches taller than Hughes or Garland.

This is it though. Klim could benefit from EP's push pull fulcrum snap or what I affectionately refer to as the "happy Gilmore" where the power is generated by the top hand building energy through the sitck much earlier . Hughes may be better served to work w Garland or Alfy who generate power much differently than EP and instead use a lower drive hand late pull technique. Scroll up to see what I mean.

  2. I would love to take a stab at Akira Schmid. The kid looks legit. Not sure what it would cost? Klimovich and NJ's 4th back?

NJD Just signed Kallgren they have Brennan and Daws in the pipe. Alternatively if they send Akira down I think he's got something like 27 exempt pro games left maybe we pluck Kallgren who would have to pass waivers I believe?

    Hmm...sounds familiar.

I guess the difference is that Podz has always shown the potential to become a power forward,

whereas we haven't seen that yet in Klim (although Podz has 2yrs on him).

In his first NHL season, Podz was an exciting player; often being labelled 'Moose' or 'Bull'

by his teammates and coaches.  His second year was filled with team dysfunction and time

spent in Abby.  It seems he has lost his confidence and has fallen to the rookie default of

'always playing it safe', hence the 'let it hang' comment.  Thankfully, in his interviews, Podz

sounds like he got Tocc's message and is working hard to follow through on it.

I would love to see Podz end up as Miller's righty, but Tocc has suggested that he might

potentially end up on Pete's line. https://www.reddit.com/r/canucks/comments/112s2cd/batchelor_i_asked_rick_tocchet_about_moving/?rdt=61797

Like I said Klim ain't gonna make it on skill alone hopefully he doesn't go the way of Kravtsov.

Leaving his homeland at 18yrs and coming to a country where he doesn't speak the language

shows character, as well as determination.  Not many 18yr olds play in the AHL either.

I have no doubt the Abby coaching staff will have Klim working on his overall game this season,

which will make him a more complete player.  I don't see him challenging Podz (power forward),

but he could become a 3RW in a couple of years.  He's only 20yrs, so he's got some time on his

    side.

    Danila 6'2 205

    Pod 6'1 190

Danila also needs to "Let it hang"

And he's still only 20 years old.

This kid knows how to put the puck in the net.

Thats why Benning drafted him after his 5G WJC performance. I don't think he will make it on skill alone though I'd like to see him get his nose dirtier this year.

Garland has a muffin shot. If he could shoot the puck he’d see PP time.

Ya I'm gonna have to disagree on that. Garly can rip it.

    The release on this snap

Hughes doesn't shoot like this on his best day.

Now I'm not saying he has an elite one timer don't be silly but it's definitely not a muffin and if Hughes could shoot like Garland he'd be a lot more dangerous. Hughes will never shoot like Weber but he may be able to learn a thing or 2 from Garland on how to generate a bit more pop at his stature.

Awesome. Can we get him to work with Hughes on his shot? Right now, I think it’s the only weakness in his game.

Wonder if the Sedins could twist Daniel Alfredsson's arm to work w Huggy on his shot. Alfy had a cannon. Another option though a right handed shot may be Garland I remember John and John mentioning Garly clapped one 98mph which is remarkable it's not Chara but Garlands mechanics may be more what Quinn needs to put some pop in his shot.

That being said Salo had a bomb but he did the most damage by just getting well timed and placed pucks through.

I'm still worried about Martin. Hopefully a more stable environment is the difference.

Theres a book on Martin now. He was ok when he was an unknown but teams did their homework on him. Unless Clark can fix him getting deep in his net when he moves laterally he will continue to get lit up.

Comtois (if cleared) is another, likely inexpensive, option for some more oomph. Hoping we see at least a PTO here (and that he's clear of any wrong doing).

Crouse would have been great, but with ARZ reportedly looking to take steps, isn't likely moving anywhere sadly.

I'm more trawling for guys who could be a long term solution to our depth at C. I agree though Comtois has serious red flags regarding WJC if he's cleared maybe but that goes back to Alvin absolutely has to find a way to make some room on the wings and shed some cap. I would love to add a Cole Smith, Sammi Blais, but Alvin has to put his big boy pants on and trade a 1ply winger.

Sillinger/Lavoie in addition to Raty would be a step towards fixing our teams foundation instead of sprayfoaming it with free agents.

  10. Well theres one buy low candidate off the table for now. here are some others.

We need to get some size and sand with enough skill to play in our top 9. Alvin needs to find a way to move Brock and/or Beau but I won't bore you with a proposal regarding them. GM's around the league find ways to move players except ours.

Cole Sillinger has only 17 waiver exempt games remaining. He had quite the sophomore slump. His bread and butter has been as a sniper where he had a 11.02 5v5 shooting %age in his first year it fell off a cliff in his 2nd at just 1.23%. He's bound to rebound

Raphael Lavoie 6'4 215 right shot C clapps bombs and has been developing steadily every year he's now 22 and it's either big time or waivers. Lavoie first caught my eye when he went on an absolute tear in the QMJHL playoffs in his draft year.

Just think what it would look like if Benning hadn’t messed up the cap and we could have signed him to a max term around $8.5 million deal.  Same with a Hughes deal that could have been sub $8 million at the time.

$11 million probably isn’t ever going to be a steal.  The cap doesn’t have infinite linear growth potential.  TV deals are probably going down if anything in the future, ticket prices only have room to grow in the less traditional markets.

Should have locked brock up 8x8 too.

He is terrible at one on one battles from what I've seen. He comes in at bad angles and for his size is easy to move or win against. I don't know why the Leafs haven't tried harder to get him a digger, trench guy to play with. Can't remember, was Hyman that guy? He's more of a "I'm over here, get me the puck" type. Easier to defend against in playoffs. Meh, that's what I see.

Love this! We have a few too many of those as well.

Excellent post. You're right about the bias. That is - and has been - the easy prediction. With so much parity in the league now, we're not nearly as bad as some say.

The interesting things is the new regime is making improvements across the board in all areas, including Abbotsford. So, as we head into this season with improvements, and the next few with improvements, we should see much, much better results.

This season should be the start of those and it's going to be harder for naysayers to keep repeating the same thing each year.

Demko needs to be around 50 starts if we have any hope it will be having a healthy Demko down the stretch.

I'm not opposed to moving Boeser either. This isn't about Boeser .Don't think your picking up what I'm putting down.

Oh I'm reading your mail. I just think you're hanging the wrong guy. Garland is a part of the solution not the problem. We need to get rid of the softies.

People talk about size doesn't matter Tocchet's gonna coach team toughness. etc but then we want to get rid of the guy who exemplifies playing that way.

I could see him go 11x8, but I'll be surprised if it's more than that, personally.

He'll sign with us, though. I believe that he does love Vancouver, and I also believe he will buy in to what Allvin & Co will be selling him. With the history the Canucks have with Swedes as well, I see no reason why it won't get done. It has to get done.

I hope so. If the cap goes up as much as projected that contract will be a steal when Pete's hitting his prime.
