That's not true.  Myers, Pearson, Cole, Beauvillier, Blueger all come off the books next summer.  That is over $18 million in cap space.  Plus, the cap is expected to go up by $4 million.  So that's over $22 million in cap space next year.  The Petey and Hronek extensions should eat up about $7 million in cap space, plus another $2 million for the OEL dead cap.  So, we will have around $13 million in cap space to fill out the roster.  That is almost double what we had this summer.  So, it should be enough to add 4-5 new guys.  Plus 1-2 of our Abby guys should be able to make the roster next year.  Raty, Hirose, Johansson and maybe Klimovich or Karlsson.  And hopefully Podkolzin and Hoglander can take the next step.  I'm expecting Podkolzin to be a top 6 player next year.

Perhaps Garland can be traded next summer as well.  Might be easier to move if he has a good year and then only 2 years left on his deal.  If we can move Garland then that frees up another $5 million in cap space, so we'd have $18 million total for maybe 5-6 guys.

You can't count Pearson he's LTIR we aren't cap compliant with him in the line up. Pete and Hroneks extensions will be 8+ especially if they carry us to the playoffs this year but I won't split hairs w you. The rise in the Cap will cover OEL but the rest of the league will have another 4mill to play with. I'm just trying to be a realist here. We gain 15.05m - 8m ish = 7m to fill in 2 x 4/5 D and 2x middle 6 fwds now it's not all doom n gloom but it's not the candy land you make it out to be. It's a rocky road up with no push from the farm. It will take 2 of Hirose, Johanson, Bains, Raty, Klimovi blossoming this year to put some wind in our sails.

Agree... get into the play offs, and lets players feel, what it is all about.
All while being able to evaluate how they cope  with the rough and tumble of the play offs...

Only way to find out if they have, what it takes, is getting them to the dance...

This is so true. The problem I see is that this is we have Pete + Hroneks extensions coming up and the OEL buyout is about to hit. Even with Myers Beau Cole coming off the books it doesn't leave enough money to upgrade next year. Any way Ill try not to be debby downer. We just do this dance every year shuffle some deck chairs with offseason signings we all get so excited about new players to pencil into our lineup charts they sell some season tickets but the on ice product remains underwhelming. Maybe I'm just getting crusty and burnt out on it. I'm going to temper my expectations and wait to see. Saying things like team toughness and buy in are all it takes you just need heart and compete........ yada yada. It's all well and good but you have to have those guys with fire in their belly it doesn't matter if Brock comes into the season looking like a WWE wrestler if he plays like Brian Orser.

We got to make the playoffs first.

At this point, we just need quality players regardless whether they can bring a physical edge or not. You can still be a hard team to play against and not have to always be a physical team. As long as players are willing to pay the price and go into the dirty areas, thats what a winning team looks like.

I fully agree here. And I think Garland is the poster boy for this he's got more sand than anyone on the team but when teams play with structure he's easily neutralized. I don't like to admit it as he is one of my favorite Canucks who is a constant thorn in peoples side. The unfortanate reality is we can't break ground without a few bulldozers.

I think we have a team that could elevate it's physical game in the playoffs. Petey, Miller, Garland, and even Boeser (IF he is able to rebound and come back to his 20/21 form) are all skilled players who I believe could elevate their grit in the playoffs.

    LOL @ Brock seriously??

    The others I agree.

  5. I really really like Hirose and Wooly for that matter too. I think they will Certainly see spot duty when injuries occur. I really like how well they filled in last year.

As far as guys who could find a permanent spot. I picked Breezy G he just plays calm low event hockey that lowers a coaches blood pressure. He makes sense to me to be the guy with Myers on that bottom pair to unleash the giraffe.

His offense brings him down but that doesn't matter.  I don't think Beauvillier commands a lot of trade value so I'd be fine if we got Smith and a late pick for him.  As for other defensive bruisers on the market, ZAR is still unsigned:

Could contain: Adult, Male, Man, Person, Text, Chart, Plot

I would be fine with adding Reese. We still need to clear cap somehow and a top 9 roster spot for Hoglander. I really hope MGMT has a plan to make this team less pillowy soft.

    Edit: corrected my error.

    Smith

    SCOUTING REPORT

A late-blooming, undrafted forward, he did not begin his collegiate career until he was 20 but has parleyed grit and a willingness to do the dirty work teams need into an NHL opportunity. He is a big, annoying forechecker who will get to the front of the net and screen netminders. He gets into passing lanes well, is adept at forcing turnovers and can kill penalties.

Smith put up 11 goals expected drew 60 pims 198 hits playing a solid 879 mins in 69 games with very good underlying defensive numbers.

  10. Brock is staying bless him we(Fans) love him the team loves him. Garland is a new-age pest he puts us on the PP a ton gets under people's skin the "Canuck way". Imagine him on the 2011 team on Kes/Hansen flank with a proper bottom 6. So that leaves Beau who by all rights is a good player but on this team is unfortunately redundant and as such doesn't hold much value.

    To Nash Anthony Beauvellier

To Van Cole Smith + 6th Dallas

Nashville could use a lil more scoring punch in their top 9 Beau might just fit there like a glove good all round utility player. We clear some cap and add a special teams specialist to beef up our bottom 6. He's big hits a ton forechecks hard plays net front on the PP. PK's well enough and can gaud some skill players like Miller into fisticuffs. He and Dakota would really add some dimension to our bottom 6 and be able to step up occasionally to take the odd shift riding shotty with Pete/Miller as a net-front presence.

Sure we trade a legit top 9 player for a grinder but Smith is a hell of a grinder who would add some grit and clear a much needed 3.375M

I feel like they def need to add the pick as they certainly win his trade 1 for 1.

    Kuzz Pete Brock

    Mikheyev Miller Garland

    Hog Beluger Podkolzin

    Dakota Aman Smith

Our bottom 6 has some dimension to it and can roll on a regular shift. I would still love to bring Lammiko back too.

I hope Diaz never fights again. It's sad watching these old battered guys take more damage. His only interesting fight left is a trilogy with Conor. And that might be the only smart option Conor has left too.

I mean he sure took damage but I think Diaz would have won the battle if it went longer.
