  1. In the past month, I've heard about shortage of lifeguards, home doctors, nurses, airport workers, programmers, dishwashers, security guards. Where did all the workers go?

Not just the Sunshine Coast Mike.

It's all over. When I was interested in becoming a bylaw officer. Tofino and Gibsons pretty much offered me the job. There just was no place to either rent or stay. Especially in the Summer.

Same thing goes on the Gulf Islands. Even in the cities both on Vancouver Island and the Mainland.

Affordable housing will certainly help attracting trades, doctors, etc.

My brother is starting to build houses on Galiano, and it is so hard to find tradespeople or labourers.

Hard enough to get supplies shipped over. I've considered possibly going into learning to be a finishing carpenter. And working on Galiano and Mayne. As my brother and sister both have places over there.

@Ghostsof1915 So is the issue then that new jobs got created or that the old workers have left the city due to lack of affordable housing or both perhaps? It just seemed that pre-pandemic, this wasn't as big an issue compared to right now...

I think honestly a couple years of covid along with all that came with it has maybe set some people's priorities straight.

I know many more people happier to find a balance within life vs working everyday.

But during covid people in the service industry have been bombarded with hate and rude customers who felt it justified to take their frustrations out on workers simply following rules or being the middleman not responsible for price hikes and supply issues.
