  1. The Jays, now, somehow, have an 84% of making the playoffs after tonight's game (I guess taking scheduling and other factors into account)

I think most figured they were finished a week ago (including me)

This has been a strange season

Now hoping they finish 6th so they can play Minny rather then TB, but I certainly can't genuinely complain about that

"Jays' Alek Manoah defends teammate Alejandro Kirk from 'fat-shaming' critic

If there’s someone that’s got Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk’s back, it’s teammate Alek Manoah.

On Wednesday, Manoah came to the defence of Kirk after the latter was criticized by Matthew Ross, a Montreal-based radio personality who called Kirk’s base-running “embarassing” for baseball.

The uproar started after the Blue Jays shared a tweet with a video of Kirk running the bases during Tuesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Ross apparently wasn’t a fan of the video.

“It’s cute and all, but also embarrassing for the sport,” Ross said in a now-deleted tweet. “Giving guys like this prominence feeds negative stereotypes.”

While many Jays fans chirped the radio host for body-shaming statement, Manhoah stepped up to the plate to stand up for his teammate.

“Go ahead and tell that 8-year-old kid who is 10lbs over weight that he should quit now,” Manoah tweeted. “Just step aside from the keyboard and let KIRK inspire those kids to continue to chase their dreams and chase greatness.”

In another deleted tweet, Ross replied to Manoah: “When a pro baseball player takes your words & twists them to suit his simple, defaming narrative of you.

“Fat shaming? That’s insane. I questioned the optics of a PRO player, & how it feeds into the declining view that casual fans have about MLB. PERIOD.”

    Manoah didn’t like Ross’ response.

So now your saying attendance is down because too many big guys play the sport? Then let me ask you, why did he get millions of votes to start the all star game? And What’s Narrow is your nose you should probably fix that. Your ratings are down cause of it,” tweeted Manoah.

Apparently the negative feedback got to Ross. At first he tried to protect himself from the backlash by locking his Twitter account, but he later ended up deleting it altogether.

Ross hosts Weekend Game Plan on Montreal’s TSN Radio 690.

According to his now-deleted Twitter bio, Ross is also the founder of non-profit organization ExposNation.

Manoah has very quickly become a favorite of mine:

    Manoah gets game one.

a- he's earned it with his overall year

b- he's pitching very well right now

c- it may help him to like playing for the Jays even more- sign him up and keep him happy.

Gausman has been steadier all year than Berrios, so Game 2 for him, then the mystery man- which Berrios do they get that day?

The other day they only used relievers and they won the game easily, so they might try that. Their relief pitching is very good and a lot of those guys can pitch multiple innings

  4. The Kama Sutra would be a joke.

Im trying to think back of when I was that age and I cant imagine anyone would just burst out laughing, and I can't imagine anyone's first impulse would be to grant him/her the excuse of "Oh maybe he/she is just a historian or a psychologist or something, so thats fine"

Im not sure that warrants nuking the whole thing, but man it would be messed up.

If you want a difficult to accept yet extremely valuable historical lesson then teach your high school students that the Nazis borrowed heavily from Americas own overtly discriminatory practices

If you studied the conflict longterm you would know religion has very little do with it.

Nowadays It is all about land and power/control.

The establishment of a Jewish state vs Palestinian state.

The Israeli government is ultra nationalist and wants only a Jewish state just like Hamas are ultra nationalist and want a Palestinian state.

Sure one could argue there was a time when religion played a great role in this conflict(crusades, Arab nationalism, etc..) but Arabs and Israelis have lived side by side for centuries and more so after the creation of modern Israel.

It is rather unfortunate this conflict has dragged on for so long..

I agree there are factors that have nothing to do with religion fueling this conflict,, however  I cant overlook the fact that the US backs Israel for reasons that are definitely religious.

A significant number of American Christians literally believe that if the conflict escalates and Israel is victorious, it will cause Armageddon, and this is somehow a desired outcome.

Don't ask me why these particular Christians are the ultimate nihilists because it makes no sense to me either.

  6. I still think the main problem isn't really how much money is spent, but how it is spent.

If cops had mandatory education,, with (for example) a degree in Criminal Psychology (and/or relevant fields) as a prerequisite, perhaps they'd be much better off in situations that too often escalate into tragedies.

At the very least a high school diploma alone doesn't appear to be enough.

This idea that unless you can post a link to an article you lack cred shows what a sad state human interaction has come to.

I actually post links out of consideration really. Ideally it saves people the trouble of digging into a claim themselves.

Call me crazy here, but I'm seeing more and more people losing their jobs over their political beliefs.  We saw it with the Canucks' anthem singer.  The latest is Gina Carano who lost her role with The Mandalorian because of her political views.

We all have our views shaped by the mainstream media and the social media, which feed into each other. I'm noticing that anybody that dares side with the Republicans/Conservatives is having their views twisted and included with whatever the worst stereotypes of the right wing are.  It's kind of sickening to see.

I've voted NDP, NDP, NDP, Green, and Liberal but this latest trend is really turning me off the left.  I still remember when the Conservatives were in power a while ago, and wanted to pass an omnibus bill that included a part where the government could essentially spy on you....  one of the Conservative MPs said "If you're not with us, you're with the child molesters".  It was the most blatant case of the strawman argument at the time, but now it's almost becoming common place and we're all desensitized to it.

Sadly, we've gotten to the point where anybody that dares say that they are republican or has any sort of skepticism about Covid and the way it's handled is called out and cancel.led.

The problem is that it's bad for the bottom line.

People who insist on espousing unpopular beliefs in public are bad for business. If their employers ignore the controversy by keeping them on the payroll it's going to cost them.

These people should have known better and shut their yappers rather then embarrass their employers for no good reason. If you are trying to produce a movie the last thing you'd want is one of your actors making sure everyone knows about why they think doctors should go to prison for performing abortions, or why mandating people to wear masks during a pandemic is tyranny. "Why am I not allowed to cough and breath on people with a deadly virus flying around?" They might ask.

Some people have this silly idea that free speech means you can say whatever you like and not have to worry about any consequences. None of this happens at the behest of a bunch of feminazi snowflakes. It's just people trying to run a business.

  9. Its difficult to imagine a situation where it would make sense. (Although it is possible if the world was unstable enough)

Any kind off proliferation on our behalf, as things are today, would almost certainly put needless strain on the relationships with many of our allies.

After all, Canada has already signed a treaty promising we wouldn't: https://www.un.org/disarmament/wmd/nuclear/npt/

I'm just curious to what exactly we should push back on, Jordan Peterson says a lot of stuff.

His take on socialism is unbelievable and unbelievably misinformed for one thing. He insists, among the many other qualities he fallaciously ascribes to socialism, that socialism is based on resentment towards the rich, when it's most commonly summed up as a critique of capitalism.

But thats just what he does.

Peterson is all to often either being dishonest or laughably misinterpretive when it comes to the conclusions he reaches, and this phenomenon is no better demonstrated when he concluded socialism was evil via his reading of Orwell, when Orwell was in fact a particularly enthusiastic socialist himself.

This "Cultural Marxism" he likes to rail about in a wobbly and uncontrollable spastic fit is a direct descendant of what the Nazis called "Cultural Bolshevism" Its ironic because that is the kind of thinking that has the potential to doom our civilization, not this "socialism" he paints without nuance as on par with Stalinism or whatever, along with all its nefarious perpetrators that don't seem to actually exist.

Considering how willing your typical Peterson supporter is to believe what he says without question, I think this is a problem.

I only heard about this Jordan dude recently because a woman was telling me about his criticism of gender equality and how it's being implemented.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but his view is that it should be equality of opportunity instead of equality of outcome, meaning that everyone should be considered for potential employment/position but that it should still be given out on merit as opposed to having a goal of hiring 50% men, 50% women.

Anyways, quite liked that idea and I come here to find out there's a 30 page thread on the dude...  so I have a question, why would you all spend so much of your time on this type of entertainment?  It leads to a lot of arguing, negative feelings and can be quite polarizing.  I suppose it's better then just pure politics, but I still look at these talking heads and see nothing but "I'm right, you're wrong" type of flaunting that doesn't accomplish anything.

I've also noticed a lot of character assassination that is becoming more prevalent.  Like whoever posted that picture of Jordan with that dude wearing an Islamophobia shirt, without giving Jordan's quote about not being happy about the picture but being for freedom of speech.  It's kind of disingenuous and really the reason that the common man gets turned off of news and all this stupid talk going on.  You never hear the complete picture, just what one side wants you to see/think.

Rant over, carry on this debate for the next 30 pages, I'll be in the Canucks section.

Blatant misinformation needs to be contested because the consequences can be disastrous.

Its vital to push back against dudes like Peterson and his unfalsifiable woo for much the same reason as its important to push back against people who deny global warming, or those who don't believe in evolution, or those who think the world is flat, or those who claim that condoms cause (rather then prevent) STDs to spread (This list goes on for a very long time)

Its important work that is badly needed in as much abundance as possible.
