  1. Agreed, I'm really concerned about the way this is unfolding so far. Being the twelfth or thirteenth forward on the NHL roster at nineteen, well, I'm unpleasantly surprised that Benning has gone this far down that road.

Bo will not be sitting on the bench for long.

He needs a few games at 10 plus minutes like I have been saying for forever now and that will do it.

Bo is a better option now for 4c and will only get better.

    Just watch....

  2. No one's a sure thing until they prove it for years so a big guy with talent should have more options to at least get to the bottom lines.

That said exceptions have exceptions so any small first rounder may pan out any given year.

It's just Virtanen and Ritchie provide more options.

  3. Both Horvat now has one goal 0 assists in his last 17 games spanning back to the memorial cup.

Memorial cup 4 gp zero points

Prospects tournament 4 games played zero points

Preseason find games played one goal

4 American hockey league Games played zero points

    5 NHL games zero points.

He's been okay however he is clearly struggling offensively. I hope they do the right thing and send him back ASAP

    Gheee ...

when you put it that way...still could be lying about his shoulder and hurting..,

  4. Great! This game should be a bit of an indicator of what is in his future.

If they play him 10 minutes or more it means he has a real shot, 8-9 minutes who knows and 7 or under back to junior is likely.

  5. Vey is getting 4th line duty and PP minutes. I think it's a great way to shelter his minutes, but continue to develop his offensive skills.

It looks like Horvat is NHL ready, but the logjam in the bottom 6 is preventing his jump to the NHL. I can't see the management wanting to trade any of Matthias, Richardson, Kassian, Hansen, Vey or Dorsett at this point. Perhaps that is why they are stretching his 9 games out; they are undecided as to which option is best for the team.

Either way, it's plain to see that Bo is going to have a great future and will be a key player on this team.

No one has to get traded to keep Bo up.

We are going with 14 forwards anyway so with everyone healthy that adds up to 14 forwards.

Until Sestito gets back (which may be a while) we are going with 13 forwards.

The question is how much playing time will he get?

That will be determined by his next 4 games and I can't see them playing him for less then 10 minutes a game for his next 4 games unless they have already decided not to keep him up past the 9 game point.

It's still wait and see, we now have DeFazio as a possible 14th forward as well so the squeeze is on!

  6. When's the last time you saw anybody on this thread post that Bo's too slow?

That issue was put to rest long before so I don't get why you want to put away something that was long gone.

I just read someone complaining about his speed in another thread so I thought I would try to erase that perception as much as possible by posting in this thread.

  7. Just want to point out that the pundits are saying there is nothing at all wrong with Bo's skating and that he is actually pretty fast now. That is what I have noticed he is beating people up and down the ice on the fore check and back check.

So let's put that issue to rest please.

  8. Horvat is needed to push Matthias and Richardson and Hansen and Dorsett.

Without Bo those players will relax because Sestito or any call up is not going to threaten their jobs.

We need 14 forwards to keep this thing rolling, Bo has not had a decent chance yet he needs a few games at 10 minutes or more to get going. As it is now he flies at it and his line looks great to start but then sits for forever and can't get back to that level.

    Play the Bo please.

  9. Guys, Willie has said a few times there are no line numbers, the Sedins are the top line and then there are the other lines.

The only way this will work well is with Horvat on the 4th (lowest minute) line getting 11 to 13 minutes a game to start (as soon as the coach is comfortable with him).

We roll 4 lines, two of them have good face off men and Hank is good when he has to be.

All lines have skill and shutdown ability without Horvat on the 4th they will not see the ice much because Vey or Matthias cannot win faceoffs and both are iffy on the defensive end.

Give Horvat 5 more games but play him 10 minutes or more a game to give him a real shot. It takes 10 minutes to settle in to a game for bejeepers sake.

He will prove his worth and be going nowhere except maybe the world juniors, maybe but I think he just stays here and helps us win.

  10. You say that as if Drouin is going to be riding the pine on the 4th line all year.

Drouin's average TOI is 14:40 with an average of 1:27 on the PP. Bo's average TOI through two games is 7:37 with 0:26 on the PK. That's almost double, and Drouin has only one game where he played under 10 minutes by 2 seconds.

Drouin's played the last few games on the 4th line, but that doesn't mean he's a 4th liner. This is rather normal for any young NHLer - there are growing pains and they have to earn their ice time. For example, there are 10 games in Steven Stamkos's rookie season where his TOI was in single digits (1/8 of the season), 23 games where he played below 12 minutes (1/4 of the season), and 39 games where he played under 14 minutes - that's almost half his rookie season.

The point is, Drouin is a top 9 rookie foward who is learning to earn his ice time in the NHL. He'll will be back up in a top 9 role in no time, but that's not the case for Bo.

The difference is, Bo is starting on the 4th line, and he'll remain on the 4th line. His offense is limited and could improve by playing in junior. I think it's far more beneficial for Bo and the Canucks in the long run if Bo returns to junior, play at the WJC and works on his offensive game rather than stay here and stunt his offensive potential playing 10 minutes per game or sitting in the press box.

Willie: "no line numbers" ...there is no fourth line.

There is a top line and 3 other lines... there is no 4th line or 3rd or 2nd even.

  11. Yes, that was the play (was surprised they never replayed it). Comes back to bail out the D who gave the puck away, rubbed out his man and took the puck back, and got it out while in the midst of three Sharks like it was just another day at the office. Impressive for a veteran let along a rookie. Totally SOLID, as he was any time he was on the ice. If that's the way he can play consistently, young jedi has nothing left to learn -- he'll stay.

That is his trademark in my opinion, Takeaways, which is also Bergeron's calling card by the way.

Bo will force his way on to the team once he gets some games in, he is just to valuable a player.

Hansen and Dorsett take dumb penalties, Matthias has a good 2 game stretch but how long will that last and he is a give away machine at times.

Horvat provides mistake free defence, clever offence, take aways no give aways, Faceoffs (he will be fine by mid year), puck possesion, penalty killing and by mid season power play ability.

All the players below provide half or less of the above. Fighting is the only skill Bo doesn't have.

Hansen is a penalty killer and good on defence. Bad turnovers, bad penalties

Matthias can skate. iffy hands, hard inaccurate shot. No hockey sense and bad turnovers

Dorsett can check and hit and has more hockey sense then the above 2. Fights, bad penalties

Vey is a power play guy and very good at it, what else does he bring? ave. D at best.

Point being that none of the 4 above can do enough to warrant being in the lineup ahead of Bo.

Hansen could have feed Bo the puck for his first ever goal on that breakaway last game but used his hands of stone to keep Bo from scoring and flub his own attempt. Not nice if on purpose and dumb if not on purpose, Bo was right beside him with an open net and instead Hansen cuts in front of Bo and loses the puck...Bo almost made contact anyway as the puck bounced on off into the corner.

It was a bone head move by Hansen either way.

When Bo makes the team we will start to do as Willie wanted and really roll 4 lines.

Like I said months ago we will see the first line get 17-20 minutes a game and all the other lines get between 12 and 15.

We will have a balanced attack and defence up and down the lineup.

  12. Not sure if anyone saw this one defensive play he made in the 3rd I believe. Our LD stepped up outside our blue line on the wall and the puck and a sharks player got past him....As he entered our zone, and there was potential for a 2 on one....Bo came out of nowhere rubbed out the sharks player along the wall...took the puck away did a quick stick handle to avoid another sharks player pressuring him and smoothly chipped the put to Dorseet at the Left wall to start the break out.

It was a beauty of a defensive play. I don't understand people saying he is not ready. To me he is a stud on defensive, as long as his face-off percentage continue. People are concerned about his offensive play but I am not sure what you want from me except create chances, and by my calculations he has had atlas 2/3 per game.

I would be more concerned if he wasn't creating chances and was unable to even handle the puck in the offensive zone, which is not the case. He is playing limited 4th line minutes with Hansen and Dorsett and his line is creating chances regularly while being a less of a defensive liability.

He has been sheltered but I don't think he needs to be.

Yes it was a hell of a play by a player who is fast enough to execute it.

Please open your eyes if you still think Bo is a slow skater ( not you poster, but many on here think that).

Bo will make the team if they let him.

  13. Missed the game so looking for some comments on how Bo did tonight. Surprised that he drew in late but not really when you look at how much abuse Kassian's taken lately.

From the stat sheet - team low 7:18 TOI (everyone else above 10 minutes) and 25% (1/4) on faceoffs.

Obviously hard to be noticeable in less than 8 minutes of ice time, and that 25% hardly means that he was bad on the dot since he only took four and it varies by 25% per draw. Anyway, the only stat that really matters is the "W" and Bo contributed 7:18 towards that cause.

I don't think he's ready to be an NHLer but it's nice to see he's getting some experience out of this.

Bo had 2 take aways and did better in FO circle then he was credited for. I really don't know why his ice time was so low.

Some sort of strategy I guess but he played well, won puck battles and almost broke in on goal around a defenseman who poke checked the puck at the last second before Bo was around him.

  14. Not yelling. It just copy & pasted that way.

He'll get one of the back-to-backs for sure as we'll need fresh bodies for this Cali trip.

It's probably the logical way to go for Bo, once he gets going it will be hard to sit him out anyway.

Just watching him move D. men around with his butt and controlling possession of the puck while looking for plays...if he could teach Matthias how to do that rather then skate like lightning to nowhere in particular with his head down...at least he scored finally...

I just don't see Horvat coming out of the lineup as soon as he get's 3 games in a row or so.

  15. So... if Bo scores and set's up another as well as shut's down Marleau, etc., what then?

Keep Bo on the second line with Bonino or play Bonino on the 3rd and Richardson on the 4th.

Riches we suddenly have riches.... top 2 teams in the league for scoring ( Van and Pitt) and third place overall...how did we do this?

  16. Someone scoffed at me a month ago for suggesting no one would have to be traded or even sit for Bo to get a crack at it.

I said someone who was trying to maintain a spot would get injured if not a freak injury and they asked who.

    Sestito is the late answer.

Bo's shoulder has no doubt held him back a little to a lot in the AHL maybe even effecting his shot besides the FO issues.

I hope he isn't hiding anything to get his shot at a lineup spot.

4-0 Canucks, Bo with his first ever after flattening Barrie in the slot.

  17. Downunda says Virtanen is 5 years out to make his case for the nucks not taking Nylander. Dude is butthurt x10.

Ya he's probably right... 5 years away from leading the NHL in goal scoring sounds about right...
