  1. And so sayeth ye oh Rolleo the wise. Ye better hope the sagacious Mr Benning does not smite thy Bo to London, lest ye be reduced to retracting thine own word, etched in stone as thy committed so.

    Ha, ha.

I'm just having fun, nice retort but please no re Tort's.

  2. Ehh?

    Will... no...HAS made the team.

Bo is not going to dumb down like some others on the bottom 6, he's just going to get better, all he has to do according to me first and then Willie is keep doing what he has been doing.

  3. I don't see a spot in the lineup for Bo when he returns from injury. My guess is it's back to London, which is the right move I think. Better for the Canucks; better for Bo.

Try squinting and looking sideways...and the great Benning said "let there be space" and the great sea of players was parted and room for one more created.

-one way is injuries, not to Horvat.

-one way is to waive Sestito.

-one way is to trade Sestito ,Hansen or Matthais for picks or prospects or defence.

Horvat will ...no... HAS made the team.

He just has to come back and keep doing what he was doing, only thing is over 9 games I expect him to actually do it better by the end of it.

It will be better for the Canucks and better for Horvat, try the squinting thing...

  4. Hansen's done okay for a ninth rounder if you ask me. I don't know what people expect from him anyway. Jeezus.

    Hansen's done great for a 9th rounder.

We now have 1st rounders ready to play with more upside just in this season then Hansen has left in his career.

We may need him, but as a part timer, 14th man.

  5. Valeri Nichushkin played 10:53; only Patrick Eaves (7:29) played less among Dallas forwards.

Seems he started out playing on the 1st line with Benn but was so bad he must of rode the bench for the last half of the game.
Once Horvat gets on the team I don't expect to see any no show performances from him.
    Happy with Horvat over Val.

  6. Yeah, and what he is is an excellent, fast, tenacious checking forward with some limited offense. That's more than worth keeping around IMO.

Last night was a bad game where he failed to do what he does. He doesn't need development or improvement, he needs to simply play his game. Here's hoping he get on track to do that. If nothing else it ups his value in a trade even if it is decided he's expendable.

Watched the replays of the goals again and Hansen was the fall guy for both Calgary goals, one bad give away and one poor decision covering the blue line.

He is worth keeping around for sure, just not playing any games until injuries occur.

  7. In a third or fourth line role I don't expect him to dangle. Be good defensively, PK, battle, be tenacious, use your speed and pot the occasional garbage/lucky goal. He has all the tools to do that and excel in WD's system. Doesn't need a surgeon's hands for that.

Last night he played poorly. Poor battle, positioning, passing and d-coverage. The second Calgary goal was all but entirely his fault. His role is not not get beat on those board battles.

Same on the first goal where he lost the puck battle and simply played dead on the ice (and close your damn legs Miller!). That's (supposed to be) one of his tools/strengths and he @#$% the bed there on both goals in his prime role as a "tenacious" checker/battler.

That said, I believe he'll improve.

Hope to see some game to game improvement but at 28 years old, Hansen is what he is.

  8. I like Hansen, particularly in WD's system (in theory anyway) but if he keeps playing like he did last night, he's the guy sitting to make room for Bo IMO.

Hands of stone Hansen. He has only played one good game so far this season and that last one was not it.

So far it is unanimous Hansen sits.

  9. Fair comment: I am assuming he'll do well in the dot, and yes, that's unproven. Still, even in the Arizona game you mention he was 2nd best after Bonino, albeit at 40%. Fact is nearly all of our centres have been abysmal in the dot so far, which makes Horvat relatively better, even when he's bad in absolute terms. Faceoffs are starting to look like an achille's heel for us, and are going to affect the team's game pretty negatively if they don't improve soon.

Bonino started out terrible in the FO cirlcle then finished strong. Matthias and Vey were awful in the cirlcle and Richardson started out slow then did alright.

I think Horvat will be our best FO guy by mid season, he is going to be on the team but not just because of that.

  10. Willie said something like "he is coming off an injury, I really liked the way he was playing so we will have to see if he can keep that going when he gets back".

Bo is going nowhere until he makes it or bakes it. 9 games then decision time, it is up to Bo to do just what he was doing.\

He's only going to get better.

    He will make the team.

  11. Or they made a switch and he didn't get to the point fast enough. It's not a rule that a center doesn't cover the point man. Everyone has defensive zone responsibilities and players switch all the time to make it work.

Ya but if the switch is a bit late in happening, especially in pre season, is there really any blame to throw around?

If so who is to blame Horvat or the winger he was trying to cover for? All you see is Horvat not getting there in time ( I don't remember this event but whatever) maybe the winger was late calling the switch, maybe Horvat was dealing with his own man?

  12. It sure would, except Bo would be on the fourth line getting no pp time at all.

He's far from "mastering" the defensive side of the game. For example, he was caught quite a few times in no man's land on point shots where he didn't realize and was caught awkwardly between the shooter and the goalie and creating a screen. If you're not in position to block, get out of the way, or get closer to the shooter to try to take away the shot. His defense is pretty good and he could pass in the NHL but he still has lots to learn to master the defensive side of the game in the NHL.

Also if he does have great offensive potential, then we might be better of sending him back to junior to develop that further in London's 1st line than have him stuck in a limited role on Vancouver's 4th line.

Bo is a center, he is not supposed to be covering the points, his job is in the center of the ice.

So if he was covering the point he was doing it for a winger that was caught out of position.

  13. I'd rather see him playing a big role in London this year, and play in the World Juniors, than warming the bench here at 19 years of age. That is a horrible development plan; strictly third tier, Canadian franchise perennial doormat stuff. Besides, his play likely hasn't wowed management in the same way it seems to have moved everybody here so much. I'm very pleased with his progress but he isn't ready for prime time yet. Playing fourth line minutes in 45 games and then being sent to Utica to try to get his game back is definitely not the way to go here.

His play has wowed management more then the majority of CDC'rs it would seem.

The coaches are better at picking out positioning and team play. Most of the negatories on here want to see the toe drag, top shelf goal, which is fine, he does that too. It just isn't the main thing Bo does.

Bo plays Hockey, some CDC'rs want shinny 10-8 scores, etc.

  14. He put the puck off the boards, even though he seen the hit.

From now on he will probably get the elbows up faster! Never mind the puck.

He may have been feeling safe playing between Sestito and Dorsett.

  15. From TSN:

Horvat's had an excellent camp," Benning explained on The Bro Jake Show on TSN Radio 1040 Vancouver on Wednesday morning. "Our young players have all showed up and they've played excellent in training camp and the pre-season games. We still have a couple more exhibition games and then we'll meet as a management group, sit down and talk about (if they stay with the team).

"Bo's done everything that he could do to make it a tough decision for us and we're happy about that."

  16. It's a long thread, so excuse me for asking (if the answer is already out there) but why can't Horvat get sent to the AHL/Utica?

I thought he got kind of the same ELC-contract as Hunter etc!?

So if Hunter and Jensen can get shipped to Utica, what in Horvats contract stops him from that option?

Horvat is too young by a matter of months, Shinkaruk is a few months older and on the right side of the cut off date.

  17. Man all these people who think Bo is too good for junior...

He's not. Get over yourselves. He can develop in junior this year and it wouldn't be the end of the world.

And we don't know if he's capable of a bottom-6 role yet. It's not even main camp yet.

    Sir Das;

You might want to take your own advise and "get over yourself". If you can't see that he is better at just about everything then Hansen and as good as Richardson at FO's then your eyes are almost shut, sort of squinting sideways while telling yourself "that wasn't a good play".

If he goes back to Junior he will be the anchor of team Canada and it's best player, he may not lead the scoring race but he will lead.

  18. Sedins / Vrbata

    Burrows / Bonino / Kassian

Higgins / Horvat / Richardson or Vey

Mathias / Richarson or Vey / Dorsett or Hansen.

That's 6 centers, could put Gaunce in for Dorsett and have 7 centers available every game.

This is really what I want to see:

Sedins / Vrbata This line will have a lot more room because of the below.

Jensen/ Bonino / Kassian this line should destroy in the corners.

Higgins / Horvat / Burrows this line should check the best lines.

Mathias / Gaunce / Vey or Dorsett or Fox this line could check the 2nd line or run roughshod over the opposing 4th line!

    ALL lines should produce well!
