They say he is highly competitive, that should set a fire under him, going from #1 to #7.
Hope to see compete in just 2 weeks or so!

We finally have some solid push from the bottom up.
The veterans are going to have to be better, one of them will likely start in the press box others will go into a slump and get replaced by an injury call up who doesn't want to go back down.
Come trade deadline I see more then one veteran gone.
If Bonino can keep it going plus push from the bottom and viola we are a playoff team.
Calgary, no I don't see it
Edmonton, not this year
Winnipeg, please....

He never played in the SEL prior to his 1 season with AIK though.
But he had played hockey in Denmark and I think it was Sweden just not the SEL
-
only players who previously played there can do that, i believe, but i'm not 100% on that.
That's what I remember for Jensen,99% sure.
-
Theoretically and barring injury he will only get faster and no one can catch him now.
His point/min. is going to go up for sure but how much?
-
Will he or won't he...be in the prospects tourney.
Jake Virtanen is almost ready...
-
He just turned 18 two days ago. The youngest of our rookies, he would have very little chance of making it this year anyway.
-
Did some math, and found out, if Virtanen had the same amount of minutes per game as Reinhart, he'd have 105 points. Without even looking Virtanen would still have a disadvantage in powerplay minutes.I know they are just numbers but you gotta be pretty stoked about these
numbers.
Both Jake and Jared were point a game players while playing 8 to 10 minutes less per game than Reinhart and Ehlers, etc.
Next year they should take a jump in points and minutes.

Compare Virtanen with Ritchie??
One has a bigger upside, one has a bigger backside...

Shinky has better hands than Ehlers, but Ehlers is a better skater in my opinion.
Virtanen is as fast as Ehlers, a line of Shinkaruk/ Horvat/ Virtanen is scarier then with Ehlers replacing Virtanen.
That line has some built in protection, with Ehlers it would be a rough go in the corners.
Shinkaruk may be better than Ehlers at sneaky cross ice passes and such.

when's the last time we went through a Cano with no injuries... before kesler Raymond and booth. They're gone so we're golden.
That's how Booth met his wife and made his millions, by being injured all the time.
Solid showing on the Me,me,me front. Brain injury...right...head case more like it.

Somebody do a poll already to see where Horvat will end up this year!
CDC poll; Calder, Selke and Art Ross, TSN poll; injured

How many training camps have we had with Linden-Benning-Desjardins running things?
Not sure what that has to do with injuries?
The point is that players are not in mid season form but are trying there hardest to make the team, even veterans, so injuries occur more often then in the regular season. In the regular season we still have a man off on the injured list way more than we we have a complete injury free roster.
So there will very likely be a spot for Horvat and Vey if they can impress enough in the pre season.
-
Okay no looking... when was the last time the Canucks got through a training camp without some roster player or likely roster player getting injuried before game one of the season?
Without looking I would guess 0.
So Horvat can have his 9 games if he looks good enough to warrant it, without having to lose someone to waivers by sending them down to the AHL.
The great thing about this season is if Horvat is ready that could give us several promising rookies on the roster by season's end.
Shinkaruk, Jensen, Gaunce, Fox, Grennier and Friesen will all have a shot at a call up and at least 3 or 4 of those guys have a good shot to do something with the chance. Shinkaruk in particular, we need a sniper. Jensen may have learned how to play D. by then and his shot and moves will only get better.
Gaunce I still think needs a year in the AHL and Fox only time will tell.
Friesen may be the sleeper here, he was injured a lot last season but came on strong at the end.

No gif, but it was Petan on the left half wall one timing a pass to Fabbri coming in on the far side, and as that pass went across, Horvat switched position from screening the front of the net out to facing the net at the hashmarks where he received the one touch pass from Fabbri. Horvat was wide open due to all the wide puck movement and one timed it past he goalie with a short snap shot.
Unfortunately I missed the whole game but THIS (above) is what I am saying about Horvat.
He saw things developing with two smart players and made it work.
Same thing for yesterday's goal, he saw the play developing before charging the net while keeping low so he could find the puck as it bounced around between players in front of the net.
He played the whole last game with marginal or young wingers, he kept getting the puck on the side wall and feeding perfect passes to the trailing forward to no avail.
At one point last game he took the puck away from 2 opposing players along the offensive boards and beat a third guy who was coming to help but all his team mates where changing or beating a hasty retreat because it was Horvat against 3 others!
Start him on the fourth line if needed...
enjoy watching him strip pucks from star players as second line centre by the end of the season!

He will still have to beat out (tie goes to the young guy is what Benning said) Richardson or Vey or a bottom 6 guy just to get a shot this year.
If his skating has improved he will make it close at least.
-
I'm not trying to get down but I don't really see his offensive game rising to a 2nd line player, I want him to try and be an offensive beast. Domi had a better PPG than Horvat in the last 2 years, Rychel had a better 13/14 year.
I said that?
Domi is a one dimensional offensive player. Rychel is just not as good as Horvat at anything except skating.
-
Based on that highlight package it seems like he like to jump into the play a lot which is a good thing but I hope his defensive game is there first and foremost. Also looks like he has a strong wrister and likes to use it a lot from the point. My guess is his slapshot accuracy is horrible which I think Benning alluded to.
Chara's accuracy isn't the best even now but it was really bad when he was young.
Still if it's 100MPH or better like Chara's I would be happy if he hit the net one in three times.
-
He is playing in the next highest men's league to the NHL and looks good already.
He might have a top 4 potential!!

Go to 2:35, Nikita is number 88, shows he is a pretty decent skater, extremely small sample size, only thing I could find, anyone else has vid on the kid pls share
And I doubt benning would mis speak but is he right, is he 6 7.5 265 lbs or 6 7 230, because thats a big difference lol either way kid must eat like a horse
He is thick and meaty all over, even his head is big.
Think of an NBA power forward, they would list him at 6'8'' or more but 265 lbs is about right. That's what they list Chara at I believe and Nikita does look thicker.

Virtanen seems to fit managements mold, fast and fiesty with size to boot.
Maybe we could trade down a spot or two to get him and an extra late round pick.
-
Just thinking, with that fast past/gritty style game he is known to play and the puck possession game of the Sedin's is a given.
It would seem he is going to have inject/keep speed into the rest of the line up.
That could make it easier for Shinkaruk and Fox to make the lineup while making harder for Gaunce and Grennier who are slower and not known for grit.
Still if Kesler goes that leaves Hansen as the only speedster now. Cassels is quick, Horvat is alright but I think he is gonna have to draft for speed and talent and maybe pick up a speedy prospect.

This. I find it rather amusing that Torts is getting blamed for just about everything that has ever gone wrong with the Canucks including, incredibly, the rash of injuries that our top players suffered last year, injuries that were apparently the result of his making players accountable both defensively and offensively. Clearly he wasn't a terrific fit here but IMHO at least this team's failures last year are hardly all his fault. He certainly didn't win a Cup and become the winningest U.S. born coach in NHL history by being an idiot.
Many of us predicted the injuries with the style and amount of shot blocking he wanted. Not everyone is a shot blocker.
Hopefully no more Sedins on the PK.
