  1. Thanks @Nail for all the hard work you put into this league. The pace you simmed at was absolutely ridiculous and I loved it. Such a shame some people couldn't simply be happy with the fact this league existed in the first place and respect the effort and time you put into running the league by being spiteful and bitter about mundane things, especially at a time when you weren't feeling well at all. Thanks for running the show.
  2. Columbus Blue Jackets Mid-Season Report: As we've hit the middle of the 2009-10 season, The Blue Jackets have found themselves in a position they're quite familiar with from last season, 9th place and just outside of a playoff spot. This season has been a little more disappointing however considering the circumstances. The Positives: 19-year old Maksim Larionov has come onto the scene this season and was given a shot at the 2C position and hasn't looked back since, and on top of that has had amazing chemistry with both Ville Leino and Nikolai Zherdev who are both also having career years with the rookie centering their line. Zherdev leads the team in scoring with 38 points in 42 games so far this season. Their entire line is the best on the team 5v5 by quite a margin and have been consistent all season long. Maksim was eased into the role on the roster and had only been playing around 11 minutes a night with no PP time until recently where he's been given the keys to the PP1 line as the Blue Jackets powerplay has been struggling this season thus far. On a smaller positive note Kris Russell has looked to have taken another step forward as he's been much more defensively sound than last season despite seeing his ATOI increase from 20 minutes to 26 minutes. The Negatives: Rick Nash has struggled to really get going this season despite playing with the same linemates as last year for a good portion so far. Rick only has 33 points in 43 games so far this season, a pretty somber pace for someone who should be able to be closer to a PPG player. He's struggled with consistency all season long and has had quite a few times where he's went multiple games without any points and that's been costly for the team in the win department as they need Rick, and their 1st line to come through in more games if they want to make the playoffs down the stretch this season. The magic has also seemed to have faded from the 4th line of last year which had played a big part in the Blue Jackets making the playoffs. While there is no doubt they likely over-performed last year as a whole, the regression of overall performance wasn't expected to be this drastic as they've also played a part in costing the team important games this season. The Outlook: While the Blue Jackets still have a really good chance at making the playoffs again this season, it needs to be decided if it's really worth making a push by buying rentals this year when the top of the Western Conference is tremendously strong. While any team can win once they're in the playoffs, the better move might be to not make any moves this year, atleast not ones where future assets are given up as the team doesn't have a lot of assets to begin with, as it leaves the options to buy limited and in turn likely doesn't yield the team enough of a gain to make serious noise at the expense they pay. Ideally, the team may follow suit with last season and buy smaller, cheaper options and go from there.

  11. The Columbus Blue Jackets release Petr Sykora and Steve Reinprecht.
  12. For the first time in franchise history, the Columbus Blue Jackets will be apart of the Stanley Cup playoffs. After fighting on the outside of the playoffs looking in for a good portion of the season, the Blue Jackets clawed back and went on a tear after the trade deadline to squeak their way into the 8th seed in the Western Conference. For a good majority of the season, there was no consistency on the roster, and as trade deadline approached it was clear a good majority of the roster still has a lot of development ahead of them, and was to be expected that there was going to be bumps in the road. With that in mind the Blue Jackets only made what could be seen as minor moves around deadline time, shipping off Brule, Westcott, and waiving Saprykin, while acquiring veterans Reinprecht, Gill, and calling up David Jones from our AHL affiliate. Truly we didn't expect to make the playoffs with what were seen as minor moves but they've clearly paid dividends and pushed us. The Columbus Blue Jackets will now play the Vancouver Canucks in the first round, and will prove to be quite a brutal task for our first playoff appearance. If we can at the very least keep up with the Canucks in the series and give our fans something to cheer for, then we'll take it. Team Awards: Team MVP: Petr Sykora, with 45 goals and 32 assists. Led the team in goals and tied for the team lead in points with 77, alongside Rick Nash Best Defenseman: Chris Pronger, with 7 goals 38 assists. Changed the entire makeup of our blueline with his presence this season and has proven to be a worthwhile acquisition. Kris Russell a very close 2nd, as he led all defensemen with 49 points, in his first NHL season. Unsung Hero: The entire 4th line of Jody Shelly, Wayne Primeau and Mike Grier. All 3 were absolutely amazing all season long consistently winning us games all season, more than we could honestly ask for from them. Jody Shelly had 19 points, Wayne Primeau had 21, and Mike Grier had 30 points this season.
  13. The Columbus Blue Jackets place Oleg Saprykin on waivers Call up David Jones.
  14. We thank Brule for his time in Columbus but we needed someone with a better defensive acumen. We hope Steven will bring that to the Blue Jackets.
  15. The Columbus Blue Jackets send down Dan Fritsche.
