  1. I wouldn't want to be doing his laundry after that. Gillis is a true lawyer. He only sees one side. How come all that stuff about injuries and short season "AND THE REST" doesn't work for AV but just about every excuse under the Sun works for him (Gillis) Even his reasoning as to why we lost to LA was faulty logic. He said they only got into the playoffs by a point and yet ignores the influx of big new players and the time it took them to bed in AND the fact they won the Cup. The guy is unreal and gets a far too easy ride off these journos.
  2. Well the Sharks are 2-2 at the moment with LA. Are the Canucks better than LA too? Yes they were..........and LA swept everyone else as well. Blame that on the guy who signed them. The Bruins were a BRUTE of a team with no little skill and we were walking wounded........or have you forgotten all that. We had skill, heart and physicality but we were too small. Last time I looked the GM is in charge of supplying talent.............
  3. Hamhuis almost begged to come here. Gillis would have been a fool to turn him down.
  4. Totally agree. I would much rather Gillis had gone and the new man had either kept Gillis or picked his own man
  5. What youth FFS. A giant who has neither the concentration or stamina to play anywhere but on the 4th or a midget who didn't have enough intensity to play with the big boys .......yet. Gragnani was a duffer. Hodgson would have got what he desired but was too spoiled to wait. Sweatt wasn't ready. Jensen was a tit in a trance........the game just passed him by and he was even poor in Chicago. He did play Corrado who was at best not overawed, because he was desperate. These guys were all at least a season from the NHL..............the reason he even had to dabble with any of them was Gillis's poverty of trading and incompetence in his assessment of players.
  6. DN you of all people should know that there is much more to a team than that. With respect the Sedins are not a physical presences or game changers. AV's gift was he used these players to form a system that was efficient while the whole team was of a certain standard (including a potent PP)............once Gillis started chipping away at the support fringe and breaking the chemistry with duds and rehabs AV kept it together as long as he could................but injuries to key players and players like Ebbett, Barker, Gordon, Sestito, Weise, Pinizzotto, Joslin, and youngsters who were not ready like Gragnani, Schroeder, even Kassian and Corrado and Sweatt gradually destroyed the system and the chemistry. Even the goalie situation was of Gillis's making as was the Manny fiasco (including having no ready replacement) and the losing of a 2nd line centre for a crap shoot (Kassian) at a time when we were short of centres
  7. Nailed it. I would be surprised too if a coach who knew what he was doing would take a job under Gillis.
  8. AV, you at least knew what you were doing. Just a pity the guy charged with supplying you didn't have a clue. People who learn in the job shouldn't be allowed to fire people who know what they are doing.
  9. They never disappoint...........The Antlers. (don't listen if you don't like sad music ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsOgFgc5f5w
  10. Couldn't resist wiping the cobwebs off this..........for all the guys/gals too young to remember it. This is the version I used to like best at full volume. Very few girl singers can sing so flat and have a career.......it seemed to fit the music style though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAxXMjdk6j8
  11. I try to ration the number of people I tell about this band...........These guys are my heroes, they all hold down full time careers outside of the music business. also like these guys.
  12. Only a set of Scottish Officials could get decisions so wrong........luckily they evened themselves out. Ironically the criticism aimed mostly at referees here in Scotland (other than OF bias) is lack of consistency........well in this match they were consistent in their offside f---kups. I love this sound clip where the radio commentator (Nobby Dickel.....now there's a name to conjure with) also does the stadium announcements goes into orbit with ecstasy when Dortmund score the winner...........then starts calling for the referee to blow full time. Notice when Malaga score ....."shizen!" Just in case you don't get these adds over there.......here is the latest.......a cracker!
  13. One of my local area bands............RIP Stuart Adamson. Stuart used to sit next to me when he was home from tours watching our local soccer team. A real nice, and unbelievably quiet man considering his life style.
  14. I am now loving this guy's play. That said, I wouldn't mind him upping his physicality a notch when we are in the playoffs.

Brilliant Andy! Great result. No 2 again. Few people realise how hard it is for a player born and raised in such a cold climate as Scotland to triumph against players like Ferrer, Nadal etc in 40 degrees of heat and humidity. We don't even get the weather they get in the South of England. Luckily Andy spent some time in Spain as a youth and tried to acclimatise to the kind of temperatures which dominate the big tennis events. However it is never going to be the same for a Scot and it speaks volumes for the boy's tenacity that he continues to win in such gruelling conditions. It has killed off our fine soccer teams in the past trying to play in World cups in the searing heat but Andy has taken every opportunity he could to prepare himself for a career in top tennis. The man is a phenomenon.
  16. I like him. He is quiet and goes about his business. He has been one of the consistent guys who has helped drag us through this difficult period. I thought he was too slow but he seems quicker as he settles in to the systems.
  17. He's actually growing on me. If he keeps improving I think he will be fine. Still don't like the long contract though.
  18. Jeez I take it you have never been to a game over here :-) Dunfermline was my team. However I worked for 11 years in Dundee from 1972 and adopted them as my second team as nearly everyone seemed to support Dundee at that time. I'm a sucker for the underdog. I got my my first of many match injuries at a Celtic game when my uncles (who were all East Fife fans) took me to a Raith v Celtic game at Starks Park. I was hit a glancing blow on the head by a "screwtop" beer bottle. Fortunately I was only stunned but after the match finished my uncles followed the guy and his pal down to their car and kicked the living crap out of both of them while I watched. In these days there was no crowd segregation. I saw one of the best fights ever at the Celtic v Dunfermline game in the Hampden bus park. We had travelled in a bus full of Dunfermline supporters but one of the guys was wearing a Celtic scarf and bringing his wee boy to his first Cup Final wearing his Dunfermline scarf. Anyway me and my mate had just got back to the bus after the game ended and into our seats when we saw 3 Celtic fans approaching the wee boy who was a bit ahead of his Dad. One of the louts (they were all a bit drunk and in their mid twenties) pulled the wee boy's Dunfermline scarf off and chucked it on the roof of one of the busses. Next thing an argument broke out between the the Dad (who was built along the lines of "Begbie" ie not very big) and these 3 fans. Me and my mate got up to give the Dad "a hand" but before we could reach the argument the Dad had "decked" the three of them. I reckon the whole thing took about 3 or 4 seconds and the Father wasn't even out of breath when we spoke to him. Another time '89-90 me and my mate took a Dunfermline supporters bus to Parkhead (Celtic Park) We won 2-0. In these days you expected trouble if you won at Ibrox OR Celtic Park. We weren't to be disappointed. We had just got back to our bus when the stones started shattering the windows. Remember there were youngsters and women/girls in the bus. Worse still, there were policemen not far away watching it all. I couldn't believe it. Anyway our troubles were just starting because a crowd of them charged the bus and we literally had to fight to keep them out. My mate got badly cut and I just had a few bumps and bruises. Luckily some police eventually did arrive but only to usher the bus out and away as quickly as possible. We had a good laugh about it on the way back to Fife but it could have turned nasty if they had managed to get in with any numbers.
  19. I walked all the way through 20.000 + Celtic fans outside Hampden before the '87-88 United v Celtic Cup Final on a lovely sunny afternoon with my Dundee United scarf on (although my mate wouldn't come with me :-) We had parked at the wrong end. Why? Because I couldnt be bothered going all the way round the other side and this was the shortest way to the United end. Nothing happened, just as I figured, other than a few "drunken tubes" singing "spot the loony" In '64-65 me and my 2 mates stood in the middle of the Celtic end with our Dunfermline scarfs on before it was all seated at a game attended by 108, 000 but we moved to the other end at half time..........again nothing happened, just a few arguments when we scored ...........but we lost 3-2 (one of their goals shouldn't have been allowed but the OF used to get away with murder, even then) That was my first of 8 Cup Finals.
  20. I think Garrison is slowly finding his feet in the team and that is to be expected. My only worry is, did GM actually watch his speed when he was being mesmerised by his "break out" year stats? I hope I'm wrong but he looks cumbersome and a bit slow for this team.

Did Novak not have a real melt down the last time he played Murray and totally destroyed his racket? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BexW5o5UEGk

Another hoodoo abolished by Murray in yet another classic top 4 battle. I just hope Andy has enough in the tank. That was over 4hours of attrition (up to the 5th set) and it must have taken a lot out of Andy. I'm not keen on staggered matches when it approaches the final, it doesn't seem fair, especially when your opponent who is getting the rest is Novak.
  23. Thanks for the age chip bud but there is nothing wrong with my patience or judgement and yes we get every Chicago match over here on ESPN America. So now that we have settled your bias and your confusion let me repeat, Schroeder lacks a spark and at his size he is going nowhere unless he picks up the pace. As for Conn I've already said in other posts that he will struggle and needs to up his physical game, his defence and his intensity. By the way your point about drafting might have had some relevance if there was 40 or 50 places between them but come on 10th and 20th.........are you serious? The Canucks fans (of which I am one) are in for a lean future if we have to rely on the prospects we have at present.
  24. "I really hope we don't give up on him, he has so much skill and untapped potential." Honestly you should listen to half you guys. Finding every excuse around for a player who is heading to be a an AHL player at best if he doesn't give himself a shake. Please, no more excuses for Schroeder. He is no Hodgson. Furthermore I would say Hodgson played to his strengths to limit his obvious weaknesses, such as lack of pace and average defence. Schroeder has the ability to be a far better player but I don't think there is any spark there. He's small so he should be "putting himself about" far more. He needs to let opposition players know he is there by using his speed and low centre of gravity. He also needs to shoot far more and be defensively more responsible. He can't expect the Canucks to "carry him" if indeed he gets a shot in Vancouver. He will still lose out to Ebbett the way he is playing at present.............and I would have no complaints if he did. I would like to see him with some better line mates and if he can't elevate his game I'm afraid he is going to be no good to us.
