It is on RD's twitter, all comments indicate it's April Fools.

If that's the case, I will accept being a dumb idiot (I always suspected).

I also commend his commitment to the joke. He played it off as a legit report on the air.

    Happy April Fools Day!

I don't know man, Dhaliwal was reporting it on the morning show on 650. I think it might actually be legit. Either that, or I'm a dumb idiot. Could be both!

Hope Gaudette get's called up if Beags and Petey are out. Get him going while his confidence is high.

I'm with you. Seems like a perfect opportunity to get him some more NHL experience.

I tend to reserve judgement every draft. While everyone else seems to get all uptight or excited about certain players, I get more excited about learning who we are going to get no matter who it is. I don't even care if they fully live up to expectations or not. I think I just like the journey oddly enough. lol

I was upset that we didn't take Glass, but I spent an hour researching Pettersson afterwards and was happy by the end of it. The draft is such a $&!#show. You just can't make immediate judgments.

So when Virtanen mauled down McDavid, did it really make much of a difference in the end or is McDavid still winning trophies after the fact? ;)

There are so many players like Pettersson in this league that I really don't think it will be that big of an issue. I can see why some people are worried, but I also think it's overthinking just a tad when there are just too many example of players who are similar.

If anything, I would argue that it's the players that hit and play hard games that tend to end their careers sooner, sometimes much sooner....

To be clear, I wasn't suggesting that he was in trouble, but rather that he had the tools to cope with the physical game. The tools in question being elusiveness and resilience.

Kane, Gudreau, St.Louis, McDavid, Marner, Datsyuk, Yzerman, Sakic, Ronning, Barzal, etc., etc...

All these players have had guys trying to hit them at every level they played. Not as easy as one would think to catch an Elite player with there head down. Pettersson will be just fine...

That's pretty much what I was trying to say.

2 games so far and no-one has come close to hitting him...

He got roughed up a bit against LA, but it didn't seem to phase him which is great. He's elusive and is able to avoid big hits for the most part, but he will be targeted. As long as he can keep his head up and avoid the big hits, he'll be fine.

  8. I'd be interested in seeing a "2nd line" of Eriksson - Pettersson - Virtanen and a "3rd line" of Leipsic - Sutter - Gagner/Grandlund.

Obviously, it would depend on if Pettersson will start as a C, but Eriksson could provide a defensive presence and Virtanen could provide speed and physicality. The Sutter line looks like a decent checking line with he ability to score.

There's so many options right now though. I'm excited to see how it pans out.

He was 'omitted' because he doesn't/can't/won't play C. It was only a list of C's (or at least potential C's). It was not a lineup.

As for where he plays... IMO he has the potential to play one of the offensive lines at LW but he'll be need to beat at least one of Baer, Granlund (possibly RW/C), Eriksson (possibly RW) Leipsic, Gagner (possibly RW/C), Dahlen etc for a spot. Maybe Pettersson too (if he doesn't play RW or C).

He has the skill, it's up to him both this summer and on the ice this fall to prove the rest of his game is up to par to beat those guys out for a spot.

Thank you for the response. I thought, with the amount of players you listed, you were predicting an entire "offensive B line". That's my mistake. Sorry for the confusion.

I didn't leave anyone 'off'. All I listed was guys who could potentially play C on the lines as I described them.

I was just asking you're opinion on where Goldobin stands, as he was omitted. Wasn't meant as a slight, I genuinely wanted to know where he stands.

Sutter's line, like last year, will likely be playing it's defensive/match up/counter punch role with 2nd line minutes. You can call that '2C' if you like. Don't confuse that with 'offensive usage' or playing him with 'offensive players' (though I suppose there is some remote possibility they look at at that here and there). Frankly IMO, 'traditional 1-4' lines is an archaic way of looking at it that doesn't particularly apply to today's game and especially not to a rebuilding club that requires sheltering of young, gifted players.

    Horvat's line = Offensive line A

Sutter's line = Defensive line A (They will be expected to add complimentary offense via counter punching)

Gaudette/Granlund/Pettersson/Gagner/Trade's line = Offensive line B (we'll have to wait and see what shakes out there but they will be HIGHLY sheltered)

    Beagle's line = Defensive line B

I noticed you left Goldobin out of the offensive B line. Just curious if you think his time is up or see him as a 13th forward this year.

relating to the calder selection this past year...it will be interesting to see if Barzal can produce like he did without Tavares as his team mate.

Brock did it with very little help and made his own chances.

My understanding was they played most of the season separately and Tavares got most of the tough shut down pairings.

I'm sure Barzal will be excellent again this season, but it will definitely be interesting to see how he produces as the primary offensive threat this year.

Considering he was a 4th round pick, I'm willing to give the boner the benefit of the doubt.

I'm not trying to say anything bad about him. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to gauge his status by asking others on this board.

Like any true Canuck fan you assume they're a bust automatically because they're not in the NHL

Not at all. I'm pretty high on Rathbone. I'm just curious as to how people will judge his abilities based on his unique status.

Why do you assume the worst when I made no negative statement?

Edit: Apparently you were being sarcastic. I apologize if that was the case.

Well now THAT is interesting. Be nice to get a better handle on what exactly we have there.  As much as one can glean from glorified pond hockey anyway.

I'm curious, how do we judge him next season. He will be in his D+2 year, but only his freshman year in collage. In contrast, We'll be looking at Tkachuck in his D+1 year as a sophomore.

So do we judge based on his Draft year or his status in the NCAA?

    These situations always frustrate me.

So I'm trying to find a video on Tryamking to prove to my Bruin fan father that we have a faster, better version of Chara. All I can find are clips of his weak, but crushing hits and a few Softish goals (nothing that shows how great he really is).. where's his defensive highlights? His end to end rushes. This guy is more than a big bruiser lol. Anyone know of a video I may be looking for?

Tryamkin has the potential to be what you've described. He's not there yet, so you won't be able to find clips supporting it, but what he did at his age was very promising. Hopefully he comes back and reaches those expectations.

Can people stop with the weight thing?   Peter Forsberg was even lighter than EP when he was drafted.   News flash to all, and this backs what you are saying, kids grow up!

To be fair, Foppa was 3 inches shorter than Elias in his draft year and only 5lbs lighter. Peter had a wider frame than Elias. He was stalky. That being said, I think Pettersson will still be exceptional. I don't see him breaking 190lbs, but the Sedins played most of their seasons in the 180's, so it's not a bad thing. He seems to have the skills and IQ to succeed regardless

I think Juolevi - Gudbranson will be a tire fire.  Watching Joulevi play he will use his D partner a lot to get out of the zone, he'll make a lot of quick little small creative chips and passes to avoid forecheckers.  It works extremely well with a partner that has some puck skills to do something with the puck but we all know what happens when Gudbranson tries to make a play with the puck.  I think Juolevi would put Gudbranson in a lot of situaltions he can't deal well with, also if Juolevi doesn't see a good pass he very often differs to his D partner on the other side who then makes the breakout pass.  Again not something Gudbranson is any good at.

    What about Juolevi - Stecher?
