Asking players outright if they want to waive their NTC is one thing, asking an agent if he has any clients on the Canucks that would be willing to move is another.
Asking a players agent is still asking to waive the ntc isn't it? He said he won't ask. He said he'll only consider the option at the players request.
"The Canucks GM says he doesn’t regret giving out so many NTC’s, he won’t ask players to waive them, but would listen if a player with a no-trade-clause asked to be traded. But Gillis also stated that no player has asked to be traded."
http://www.teamradio.ca/news/mike-gillis-on-henrik-hamhuis-and-no-trade-clauses/
That's from an interview 5 days ago.

I think this injury-riddles season should make it easier for fans to accept us being sellers, and allow us to ship off players for picks. The writing is on the wall; this team is not competitive this season, so let's worry about next year.
Who exactly are we "selling"? Tanev? Booth? Gillis has recently reiterated he won't ask players to waive their ntc. Sellers tend to move players who are pending ufa's they don't intend to re-sign. That would be Albert, Santorelli and Diaz. You may as well keep drinking.

I think there are two separate things going on here Baggins.
1) f the province for speaking for the fans in assuming they've lost confidence in the team.
2) whether misreading Botchford or not - lost faith IN General Manager.
1 - Local sports writers come on here frequently. I don't how many times I've seen articles directly related to active threads on here. Considering the number of moaning threads about MG and the number of trade everybody threads, it's not much of a stretch for a writer to make the leap fans have lost faith in the team. Nothing about fans is an absolute. Not everybody has lost faith, although many have. You don't have to look any further than this board to see more are calling for heads than defending those heads. It's really just a generalization. Life is full of them.
2 - There's nothing in the article about losing faith in Gillis whether you or anybody else has or not. Although I'm surprised he didn't mention that as well. He simply said Gillis hasn't lost faith in the team.
-
lol I'm not surprised.. when was the last time Gillis told us what his real plans are - you don't because you don't talk about potential trades until they're finalized
who saw the Booth, Ballard, Higgins, Lappy, Hodgson, Schneider, or even Weise trade coming? I wouldn't be surprised if he's already approached some of our NTC's and asked for potential deals but only kept them because he doesn't want any leaks that could break off any potential trades
Booth was a minor surprise. Higgins and Lappy were only a surprise in that they worked out better than expected.
I knew Grabner would be traded. With the entire top six coming off a career year, Grabner being waiver elligible, and his penchant for coming to camp in poor shape, it was a no brainer he was going to be moved.
I also fully expected Hodgson to be dealt in the offseason. For months it was no secret he was unhappy with his role and ice time. But when Buffalo offered up exactly what MG had been looking for at the trade deadline he was moved sooner. (And no Buffalo wouldn't have waited until the offseason as they were 3 wins out of a playoff spot and in desperate need of a center)
Schneider was a surprise. Weise not so much given his comments just prior and his history with Torts.
I agree GM's don't talk publicly about trade possibilties. Unless of course the player has made it public he wants to be moved. Other than that we'll never truly know what GM's have been talking or what pieces are being offered/asked for.

This guy actually got a thumbs up calling for the public execution of the press for what they wrote?
Wow...
The 1930's called, they want their rhetoric back.
He reading it incorrectly.
"They lost the confidence their most-devoted fans had in them."
"They have not, however, lost the faith of their general manager."
"They" is reffering to "the team". What he's saying is "the team" has lost the fans confidence but "the team" has not lost MG's conficence. He mistakenly thinks the writer is saying MG hasn't lost the fans confidence. Reading comprehension.
-
Who signed that dman to an extension with a NTC after we all knew he wasn't going to be the dman we thought he'd be, and still had a chance to trade him before that NTC kicked in and didn't.
If he was the d-man many "imagined" he'd be, he'd be able to command $9m or more on the open market instead of $5m.

Past production reflects nothing but past performance.
Bringing these statistics up is useful for trivia but doesn't indicate future outcomes.
HE said they were a bust the last two playoffs. HE brought up the past. I simply refuted it. A smidge of reading comprehension goes a long way.
-
How about 2 straight playoff busts and a season from hell to follow it up. Why not do themselves and the Csnucks a favor by signing for a shorter term or smaller cap hit. No team will make a trade for them with a 14 million dollar cap hit for four more years .
The past two playoffs:
Daniel - 6gp 5pts
Henrik - 9gp 8 pts
Kesler - 9gp 5 pts
Burrows - 9gp 3pts
Raymond - 9gp 3 pts
Hansen - 9gp 1pt
Booth - 5gp 1pt
Higgins - 9gp 0pts
Kassian - 8gp 0pts
I don't think the Sedins have been our playoff problem. Both are 1 point off a point per game.

Here is the bottom line of this thread...We have 2 options here and they are
#1 Gillis admits he was wrong by hiring Torts and only did so to try and have AV's polar opposite would help this team....Now im not saying we need AV back because we don't...No I say Lavioette...He has experience was a good coach for the Flyers but they slumped this year and change was used he could be a great option for us
#2 Gillis trades everybody for Torts style players in an attempt to get this team on track again without going through the process of getting another new coach
There are pros and cons to both as any decision...there is a #3 but that's just Gillis gets fired and somebody else has to cleanup this mess and falls right back to 1 or 2
Word at the time it was Aquilini that wanted Torts, not Gillis.

I don't see any ads, bro. I use the mobile version.
Even if I did see ads, any money they make off of the traffic isn't coming out of my pocket. Sure, I pay for internet service but the bill's the same if I come here or not.
You've been served. Apologize.
Actually you're helping the Canucks make money anyway. Every advertiser knows that everybody that sees their isn't going to buy their product. But what it costs the advertiser to advertise here is completely based on traffic. The more traffic the more the Canucks can charge for advertising. So it doesn't matter if you buy, read, or even see the ads as just being here helps the Canucks financially.

Ah, the infamous "sounds like he's making excuses" quote. A little perspective....
Prospect camp: Cody says back is fine, no problem.
Main camp: back feels good
Pre-season: backs not a problem, I'm good
The day Cody gets cut: Oh my back!
AV is asked what he thinks about Cody saying his back is still a problem. There's really only two answers:
1 - The kid lied to us for the past six weeks
2 - Sounds like he's making an excuse for a poor pre-season
Which answer is better?
AV went with making an excuse but obviously the correct answer was Cody lied about his back. There were million$ of reason$ on the line to lie. But that lie set him back a year (not to mention putting his health and career at risk) as he then went on a medical wander. His own doctor, his junior teams medical staff, and a highly regarded back specialist in the US. All came up with bulging disc. After a season long wander he returns to Vancouver still having back problems and the medical staff discover a muscle tear that's aggrivating the disc. Problem solved. But that wasted year and AV's comment is entirely on Hodgson for his lie in the first place. Had he been honest maybe the medical staff looks further at that time and the secondary problem gets solved right away. Hodgson has mismanaged himself as far as I'm concerned.
Hodgson may say the right things to the press, but the fact he fired two agents and was onto his third before ever playing an NHL game just screams self entitled prima donna. Frankly, I liked the trade for Kassian from the day it happened. Hodgson is overrated here. He'll be a pretty good player but he's no Trevor Linden and never will be.

AV making stupid comments and trying to do Dr. Recchi impressions.
Such as?
-
He's definitely winning me over.
My gripe would be with Canucks management miss-managing Coho. Based on the potential he showed in the juniors they should have been able to deal him, possibly sooner, for someone else.
Right now, for what Kassian provides for the deal we got an equal deal. Overall, you don't want Hodgson to be another Peter Schaefer, which he seemed to be, believing his own hype.
How exactly was he mismanaged? I think that's a myth.
-
Even if that was funny, that's pretty far away at this point
With how suspensions are handed out at this time, the outcome doesn't surprise me. Depending on how you look at it, it seem both fair and unfair. In real life it wouldn't be even a fine if you did that during your day at the office. Emotions boil over during different altercations and once cooler heads prevail, things get settled.
But what's done is done. We need to work through this and leave this episode behind us.
Of course the odds are if that happens in your office it isn't on camera and then broadcast across North America.

When are the Canucks going to be done with the show? Tortella's not the first to try and stir it up. "The Sedin's are..."
It does not matter that the other guy put their toughies on the first line. It doesn't even matter to the Canucks.
This team will not win the cup in any manner or form in any time in your near future. There have been too many mistakes over the past years and little action to resolve them. The Twins, while great, are still only a solid second line as it stands and that will diminish. Their goals during regular season mean something during regular season but nothing if they cannot produce in the playoffs, and worst of all if they cannot help their team produce what's required in the playoffs.
Of course it takes support personnel on every level, from the top of the organization down to the people on the ice. The continous fairy tale belief that Vancouver seems to deserve a cup is mind-boggling, and this from someone who is a fan, well, kind of. I used to be a die hard fan as well and certainly not a bandwagoner.
Now I just want this team gone. As in, I have nothing of emotional or financial value invested in this Vancouver Canucks team any longer. What's worst is that I've known that for the past couple years. And the Canuck's organization keeps milking the fans.
isn't a bandwagon fan by definition a person that's a fan when things are good, and then not a fan when things are bad? It sure sound like you're a bandwagon fan.

You say this, but the league is probably looking at our club saying, "is there another club that has caused this league the bad press or embarassment Vancouver has over the last 30 years?".
The flying elbow from Bure to McRae's head.
The court case where two owners claimed the club was sold to them.
Bertuzzi / Moore.
Burrows biting incident.
The current Torts episode.
Multiple Stanley Cup Riots.
I know we look in the mirror and think we're golden and the whole world is against us, but can you name a franchise that has a worse history for incidents over the same time frame?
Since '86 Montreal fans have rioted FOUR times (86, 93, 08 & 11) after WINNING series. Their first riot was in '55 when Richard was suspended for the season.

??? paranoia.. have you watched the games? I've watched games since the 70's and i've never seen reffing that so one sided the calls as we got with devorski, i'm not claiming a conspiracy i have no idea why.. but the reality is the reality, the officiating this team sees is very odd. Get over your need to be contrarian in the face of the obvious.
I've been watching since the 60's. So what? It doesn't change the fact that the Canucks didn't have to put out their fourth line and they didn't have to agree to fight. They keep their gloves on and the refs have no choice but to call penalties on the Flames who do. That's what's obvious to me.

Yes the officiating the last two weeks/years has shown the officials love to give our players the benefit of the doubt when altercations occur... good thinking.
If they drop the gloves and come after our players, who don't drop the gloves, what options do the refs have? Get over your paranoia.
-
That doesn't work. They would take runs at our guys till we have to kill a 7 minute powerplay.
Now that's just a stupid comment. Their goons would be out of the game.
-
Nope not an option in my opinion. Torts and the team were called out by this move and putting the top line out there would have been a big mistake. What if Henrik would have been popped in the head by one of these goons, You think they have respect for our top players?
Where in my post did I say put the 1st line out? Put anybody out there and let the Flames take the penalties.
-
There wasn't an option to "win the draw and skate" because their goons were going to attack our players. They weren't out there to "win draws" or skate....they were there with a gameplan to drop the gloves and go.
On the other hand the our players could have refused to drop their gloves and let those Flames each take 5 for fighting, 2 for instigating, and a game misconduct just like what happened to us in Anaheim. Then we would have played most of the 1st on the pp and the Flames would be short on bodies the entire game. There is a choice.

The spin used to make not signing him ridiculous as a way to invalidate the argument is duly noted , but not accurate.
There is a far cry from re signing the guy as opposed to letting him walk...............and giving the 33 year old 7mil bucks for 4 years when its more than obvious they will never get 80 points again.
I suggested 5.5mil for 2 years but was scoffed at. Even the twins have to face the realities of the cap NHL and the fact 70 point guys should get 5.5 million. Even if you think they are worth more now somehow, they wont be 2 years from now.
So the 7mil is a disaster signing but all it means is we got to carry them through the rebuild and thats ok with me if they are game.
Of course you were scoffed. Last summer, with the cap going down, 40-50 point players were getting $4m and more. Tampa gave Filppula a $5m cap hit 4 year deal with a whopping career high of 40 points. Wait till you see what ufa's are getting this summer with a healthy cap increase.
-
We have the exact same issues we've had for 5 years now! Enough is enough, get a GM with some balls and brains
Or extensive EA experience.....
-
But in all honesty there was about 20 other teams that had to make decisions too. I don't see the cap as an excuse, because all teams have to play under it.
How many had to buy out contracts?

So he's been asking players to waive their ntc since he was hired? More straw clutching.
Btw, Edler has a couple of pucks deflect of himself into the goal = suckage. Hamhuis has the same happen in back to back games = nothing.said. You can always tell who the cdc whipping boy is.
