Celtics shouldn't have picked Jaylen Brown. IMO not worth taking at #3. Buddy Hield would've benefitted them more.

I also felt that was a bad pick but time will tell.

The trade offer was better than what the Celtics did lol. Bender is a wilcard. Shoulda taken Dunn.

Good for the Timberwolves. Wiggins, Towns, Lavine, Rubio, and now Dunn. Dear lawd!

Dunn said he doesn't want to play for the Suns so that may have been relevant and while Bender is still a mystery its because hes so young.

Dunn to the Wolves is interesting I feel its a weird fit despite his talent. Rubio is still being shopped and they do need someone who is a good jump shot.

  2. It could be a wild draft a lot of trade rumors flying around. Butler, Okafor, Noel, Ibaka, Russell, Rubio all in trade rumors and many other teams shopping draft picks such as the Celtics's 3rd, the Suns 4th, and the Pelicans 6th

Is George Hill worth the 12th overall pick? And I love the Jazz and they're definetly on the way up

If you look at the players taken 12th over the past years it usually isn't anyone to impressive. This draft is a bit weird though as the majority consensus seems to believe it is a shallow draft with 2 can't miss prospects then the next 5-6 players being decent but interchangeable prospects. Basically it seems iffy after the 8th pick though this draft does have a few players who are unknowns like Thon Maker. Or someone like Skal Labissiere who was expected to be contending for the top pick before looking like he would go undrafted after starting the season terribly before having a few good games and emerging as a project.

Odds are the 12th player won't be anything great though.

  4. On a side note Ben Simmons and the 76ers have essentially just announced he will be the #1 pick in the draft.

Joel Embiid has also been cleared to play 5 on 5 scrimmages and Dario Saric is 99% expected to join the 76ers next year.

With a strong possibility still that Noel or Okafor will be traded soon possibly to the Celtics, Suns, or Pelicans for the #3, 4, or 6th pick in the draft to take Dunn or Murray.

Philadelphia should be a team on the rise.

It's dispipicable arguably the Eagles too nest players and Hugh character leader types in Connor Barwin and Fletcher Cox hanging out at strip joints. Why don't print trams have morals clauses. So many of these situations could be avoided. Plus they were hanging out at a strip joints in the middle of the afternoon. These athletes today are majority scum.

Whether or not Agholor raoed her or what players were there they shoudl have never been there in the first place.

The money is out of control too much time and power media spotlight with social media puts these people in power and they think they are all a list celebrities.

Agholor looks like a total bust. Never wanted him from the day Eagles drafted him. Seems like a lot of these high character guys are just phonies and do it for the PR and to keep a positive public persona up.

Doesn't surprise me anymore when good guys like Mickelson are caught lying cheating or being fraudulent.

I think you are overreacting. Almost every athlete in every sport has been in a club before and walked out without incident. Just because a few guys have incidents is no reason for the other 98% to say they can't handle themselves appropriately. I really don't think going to a club makes someone scum, that is a really weird way to judge someones character.

Also I am unsure how old you and the other guy are and if it is juvenoia or ignorance but I really don't get where these, "Athletes today..." thing comes from. If going to clubs and chasing skirts makes you scum then athletes of all generations are scum. For example the recently passed Muhammad Ali was an older guy and is being praised for what he did through his life. He was also a womanizer who enjoyed clubs. Could be said for quiet a lot of older athletes in every sport.

With that said you are going quite hard at Agholor when early continued reports sound more and more like nothing will come of it and he isn't currently because charged with anything.

I will also add this I have never been to this club but I am vaguely familiar with it as they have ads for it all over town and after looking at it again it isn't a shady back ally strip club. It is located near the stadiums and also serves food like a restaurant and is a sports hang out as well to a degree. Kind of like a strip club with elements like Hooters and a Sports Bar. In other words people stopping in in the day isn't that crazy. It doesn't exactly mean someone like Barwin went and got plastered while getting a lap dance.

With that said Agholor has looked like a bust and early reports are he doesn't look any better in camp and is struggling to even catch passes.

NFL has a ton of thugs and so does the NBA. The common factor is blacks raised from poor backgrounds with poor family support and very little money growing up for food, rent, and time to stay way form drugs and focus on education.

Hockey is still White/ European dominated. It is a very expensive sport yo get into most NHL players come from middle class to upper middle class families so they are in good environments growing up and away from drugs and gangs and are raised properly .

I wouldn't say it is race related just rags to riches issues. A lot of players who tend to have issues are players who grew up around low end people who never changed and they remain around him. Michael Vick is a fairly good example as is his brother. His brothers career was basically ruined because be never got out of it and Michael's was close to it though after his arrest credit to him he's one of the few athletes who has completely changed his surroundings and bettered himself.

With that said the hockey comparison is off. Every kid is going to be around drugs no matter where they are raised. I went to school in the suburbs in a town that once had the 2nd lowest crime rate in the USA and was full almost entirely of middle class to millionaire white families. A lot of the kids just spent their parents money on drugs and just shared it with friends often in school itself. The school had a mocking nickname of Potcrest and they eventually started doing random drug searches where they had a drug sniffing dog come in and smell the lockers and cars then go into the classrooms and sniff the students bags. A few of the people I went to school with died of overdose and a few more died from fatal car crashes sometimes from driving high. Every death but one was a white kid from money and some were athletes. A common trend is many of these kids are well spoken and they tell their parents what they want to hear and do their own thing.

With that said the NHL has had numerous players especially lately emerge with drug abuse issues and some who weren't caught had some stories of it around them. Just looking at the Flyers (team I am most familiar with), almost every player has pics of them blasted with red eyes in bars and clubs. Numerous porn stars with a history with multiple players and attending games, released stories involving former guys like Briere going behind his now ex wives back with them. Giroux groping cops. Jason Smith retired then beat his wife and daughter. Flyers prospect Nick Cousins sexual assault case. Zherdev and his wife fighting in the street. And mind you that is just off the top of my head on one team.

The NFL has had some fairly alarming cases with some players who are legit thugs but the NHL and it's higher class upbringing still produce players who have quite a bit of issues.

Also keep in mind many white NFL players who came from money also had issues. Johnny Manziel is a good recent example.

Lakers: You can make a really good team with how much cap the Lakers have right now. Cleveland went from 10th in a weak East to 2 consecutive finals because Lebron decided to come back and $$$ was spent.

I disagree on the Lakers. You said it yourself the East is weak. LeBron makes it to the finals easily because he doesn't get much challenge in the East then has that awful Finals record because he runs into a good Western team. As good as LeBron is the whole Big 3 system has a fair amount of holes in it and has been topped many times now.

LeBron certainly made Cleveland better but the jump again isn't that impressive in the East. The Bucks finished in last place with 15 wins then jumped to a 41 win team that made the playoffs in the 6 spot the next year. The Hawks went from a below .500 team to a 60 win 1st place team in a year.

Many would also argue that if LeBron doesn't win Cleveland a championship his GMing may set them back to the point that bringing him back wasn't worth it. They are the largest payroll in the NBA by a wide margin with a lot of long term money tied up in players that can't carry that team. They also traded a significant amount of their future draft picks and prospect (they literally have a bench warmer they gave up two 1st rounders for). In other words they sold out the long term for a win now chance.

If LeBron went to the Lakers he would have one established teammate in Clarkson who is a significant downgrade from Irving and 3 prospects in Russell, Randle, and likely Ingram who are still in development. They would still have to fill out a starting line up and rest of the bench and may end up trading those prospects to get established talent given LeBron's age. They also don't have a 1st round pick next year lowering their trade assets. And on top of that of course being the West they will face a much harder road to the Finals.

Basically I don't see LeBron fixing the Lakers that fast. Hell it would be easier for LeBron to fix the Sixers given they have just as much cap space, play in the East, and and have more trade assets.

With that said no way LeBron leaves Cleveland again. He would get crucified lol.

Back in the day rosters were just as big but NFL was not known as national felons league.

Nowadays, lot of these guys have red flags in high school and college but winning trumps all.

The amount of money that the NFL makes plays a huge roll.

I disagree on that to a degree. Back in the day the NFL still had a lot of poorly behaved players but issues were swept under the rug or not brought attention to. Things like the Ray Rice and Greg Hardy incidents likely would have never been big stories if stories at all back in the day but given modern social media and technology such behavior doesn't slip under the radar so easily. It is relevant to all sports you see hockey players in hot water more often now than you did in the past.

Money is also huge as you said as back in the day average players really didn't make much. Now you can be a 3rd string QB or a kicker making millions a year and because of social media they can still get the celebrity effect where as such players wouldn't in the past.

But yes the NFL does have an issue with arrests and winning trumps all. It reflects society though as fans will hate a player on another team who breaks the law but if that player ends up on their team and plays well they will forget about that.

  8. 6 minutes ago, CBH1926 said:

Not commenting on this case directly, but there is no sport in a world that has that many legitimate criminals like the NFL.

I would say it is probably related to amount of players and access to the game. The league has the biggest rosters at 53 men per active roster on 32 teams. Football is also very easy to play as most schools fund it so people who had poorer upbringings and a history of behavior issues can get into the league easier than say the NHL where you need a bit of money and effort just to get a chance to get on a team.

And with a ton of Eagles players at the club in question at the time of the incident. Seems there's a lot of rape accusation lately to a lot of athletes

From the early statements from people who were apparently their it sounds like Agholor hired the dancer for an hour long "session" in a private room at a rate of $1400 but the session ended early and he paid her $800 despite her wanting the full amount. She didn't mention anything regarding rape to any of the management or others their though and was later picked up by her friend.

Basically it sounds like Agholor hired her as an escort, busted faster than his 40 time, and felt he didn't have to pay her for the remaining time agreed too. The woman sounds like she is angry about the pay and figures she will take him for more cash given if they did have sex it certainly wouldn't have been legal ether way.

That is just my early opinion though. Cox and Barwin were two of the other Eagles their. Barwin said he left before the incident though another unnamed Eagle said Ahgolor did nothing wrong as well did multiple other dancers there.

  11. Agholor the Eagles 1st round WR pick last year is under police investigation for raping a dancer in a club. It is an interesting story given Agholor has no criminal history and was touted as a high character man who always speaks very humble at least publicly. His character says she could be lying but on the other hand why would a woman lie about someone with such a strong public image and in such a public area.

So how hard does Denver push for Bradford? I'd rather have him around than Kaep, and although that might not be saying much maybe Sam would do well there.

Denver called about Sam but said the price was to high. Philadelphia is being stubborn in saying they expect Sam to play. A couple other teams inquired about Sam but realistically they won't give up to much and Philadelphia will likely ride the situation into the ground.

I laugh at all the Brady jokes, but I also laugh at this one, because it's just as accurate:

    ray-rice-and-roger-goodell-memes.jpeg

I think this isn't so weird. People often forget that the NFL or sports in general is a job no different than someone who works a 9 to 5. Ultimately they have the most power over their own business not legal matters.

For example say you work at Burger King. if you have a legal issue outside of work your job may not even acknowledge it. But if you call a customer fat you may get fired (a far more strict punishment than the NFL).

I truly don't know what people expect. The NFL isn't the law they aren't the ones who are supposed to be policing murders and woman beaters. If they get off legally what do you expect them to do?

The NFL is an extremely cushy job. You have far less leeway in your own job.

  13. The Bradford thing was already coming. Best case scenario they trade him and get cap room and decent picks to fix how they gutted themselves. The Eagles have no reason to start Bradford this year other than to try to spite the Browns draft pick they get.

As for Brady I get his and the Pats fans argument of definitive proof but TBH I think he is guilty xD

Ironically Goff's best case NFL projection is Matt Ryan. Wentz is compared to Blake Bortles and best case is poor man's Big Ben or Andrew Luck.

Paxton Lynch has comps to Brock Osweiller and Joe Flacco. The qbs nowadays are not NFL ready which is why they bust so often.

Bradford is apparently pissed. What happens if he doesn't want to play nice with Wentz and demands a trade now?

Chase Daniel as Eagles 2016 starter. This franchise is becoming as big a joke as the Browns were.

I am not sure how credible it is but their are reports out from a few people saying Bradford is expected to ask for a trade or way to get out of Philadelphia. It sounds like a pretty obvious outcome though given Sam's age and intent on being a long term starter.

The Broncos could be a likely landing spot for Sam as the trade talk for Kaep is died off and they just met with Hoyer but didn't sign him.

Given the situation trading Sam may be the best option. The last thing you want to do is start your coaching career with one of your team leaders not wanting to be there. Plus if they were willing to shell out for a QB that high it shows they don't expect Sam to be their long term so why have your players adapt to Sam's style which is noticeably different than Wentz and Goff's abilities (from what I am reading now Wentz will prob be who the Eagles get). Not to mention if Sam gets hurt it may just harm his value and leave them stuck with that contract.

I will wait and see how the Eagles product looks on the field, maybe I will be surprised but I will admit on paper I don't think the Eagles will be competitive for a good long while.

  16. Worst case scenario if you want to put names to the draft picks convert the numbers to names from the 2012 draft selections in each round and forward year to year and the trade could look like this.

    Eagles Receive

    - Robert Griffin III

    - Philip Thomas

    Eagles Give

    - Fletcher Cox

    - Nick Foles

    - Brandon Boykin

    - Lane Johnson

    - Jordan Matthews

    - Kiko Alonso

    - Byron Maxwell

    - DeMarco Murray

    xD

  17. Top 2 QB's taken in the last 10 years. Keep in mind many high rated QB's slip because of team needs. When you look at it though it just makes the move look even riskier. A lot of these QB's did not do well or simply became average QBs. Rodgers, Luck, and Newton are the most successful but Luck and Newton were also significantly better rated prospects than Wentz and Goff. In addition when you look at the elite QB's in the NFL many of them were taken later in the draft (or undrafted in cases like Romo).

It could work out for the Eagles (and Rams) but it really is a huge risk.

    2015

    - Jameis Winston (1)

    - Marcus Mariota (2)

    2014

    - Blake Bortles (3)

    - Johnny Manziel (22)

    2013

    - EJ Manuel (16)

    - Geno Smith (39)

    2012

    - Andrew Luck (1)

    - Robert Griffin III (2)

    2011

    - Cam Newton (1)

    - Jake Locker (8)

    2010

    - Sam Bradford (1)

    - Tim Tebow (25)

    2009

    - Matthew Stafford (1)

    - Mark Sanchez (5)

    2008

    - Matt Ryan (3)

    - Joe Flacco (18)

    2007

    - Jamarcus Russell (1)

    - Brady Quinn (22)

    2006

    - Vince Young (3)

    - Matt Leinart (10)

    2005

    - Alex Smith (1)

    - Aaron Rodgers (24)

The thirst is real to get a franchise qb.

Thus makes no sense by punting the draft this year Eagles are going to be 6-10 at best and give the Browns another top 10 pick for sure next year.

They don't even have a Todd Gurley and D like the Rams do to think of making this move.

I would have preferred to make this move next year when they could had a shot at Deshaun Watson.

Terrible move terrible. WTF do you do with Bradford now Try to trade him for a 3rd round pick next off-season?

The Eagles corners are trash as f. O line still weak and rb and wr mediocre.

    While LBs are injury prone.

I think they have to trade Fletcher Cox and Bradford next off-season and hope they can recoup a couple of second round picks for them.

They have too many holes to sign Cox and keep Bradford.

That is what really baffles me about it. They are likely getting Goff at the #2 pick and though prospect ratings are not in stone obviously it isn't like anyone is comparing Goff to a Franchise level talent. He is basically just a good nothing great prospect. NFL.com literally has him ranked a hair above, "Chance to become a good NFL Starter."

    Both seem pretty dumb.

Technically given the Eagles already traded up once for the 8th you could say the Eagles traded was...

    Eagles Get

    - 2016 1st Round Pick (#2)

    - 2017 4th Round Pick (CLE)

    Eagles Give

    - 2016 1st Round Pick (#13)

    - 2016 3rd Round Pick (#77)

    - 2016 4th Round Pick (#100)

    - 2017 1st Round Pick (PHI)

    - 2018 2nd Round Pick (PHI)

    - Byron Maxwell

    - Kiko Alonso

    - Demarco Murray

*Maxwell and Alonso were traded with the #13 pick for the #8 pick which was flipped to Cleveland.

**Murray was traded with the Eagles 4th for the Titans 4th which was flipped to Cleveland.

Plus they don't have a 2nd round pick from the Bradford trade. They basically gutted their draft picks and got rid of numerous roster players (including some cuts like Ryans). Realistically speaking on paper they have more holes in that roster now than they did last year and may legitimately have a worse season making that 1st next year a possible top 10 pick.

Bradford getting traded or like what?

Though they could still trade him they did announce Bradford was still the starting QB for this upcoming season.

If you look at the Eagles off season it really looks like they don't really have a plan and they are just waking up every other day and making a random move that contradicts the last move.

I wonder if this will affect Fletcher Cox's stance on resigning.

It's a meh for me so far, Especially if we use the 8th overall for a QB. Sproles, Mathews isn't a terrifying backfield, WR corp is still lacking and the cornerbacks are still meh.

Guess its good to get rid of Maxwell who sucked and injured, Murray who didn't really want to be here anymore

Talent wise it isn't a huge loss and keeping them likely wouldn't have made them much better of a team and certainly not contenders. They cleared a lot of money by getting rid of Maxwell, Murray, and Cooper which will also help with resigning Cox.

Maxwell was average at best we can plug anyone else in and let them get abused by #1 WRs at a cheaper price. Though Rowe was starting to improve a lot as the season ended and the Eagles are still in play to resign Carroll not to mention Boykin is available as well. They may be able to still patch together a decent backfield for next season. Matthews is a good RB if he stays healthy which has never happened but RB is a young mans game. They could probably get a RB in the 3rd round that develops fast and strong. Plus unless Murray returned to his old numbers which seems unlikely he wasn't worth that contracts handcuffs. Alonso would have been nice to keep given his contract and the fact that Ryans is gone and Hicks is coming off a serious injury but he was really a shell of himself last year and may never reclaim his original dominance. Statistically I believe he was the worst run stopping LB in the NFL last year and he continued to have knee injuries and issues all season often playing on snap count limits. He looks an awful lot like damaged goods.

Eagles probably won't be that great a team next year but these moves give them flexibility going forward and they won't be handcuffed by Kelly's moves for years.

Knew Chip was a phony and a fraud from the get go. He's playing a childs game in a mens league. Never stood a chance.

Go back to college. NFL = NFL. Don't try making it college football. You evolve/adapt to the game, not vise versa. Don't really hate/like Philly but man do I ever feel for that city. Just in the gutters really with every sports team they got. And Chip, he does a demolition job and threw a bigger wrench in their than before.

...How much better the Eagles could've been with the players that were traded out/let go, just something else. Eagles fans should be celebrating. This is a great day for the franchise getting rid of that no good con artist.

Chip didn't fail because of his system he failed because of his ego. When he had the talent it worked fine (keep in mind he took a 4-12 team and went 10-6) but when he cut most of it then it failed. Chip was football smart but not player smart. Since being fired many players have given him credit for being smart but have been critical of how he treated them. The Eagles owner also restated this in his speech on why he fired Chip and when speaking of the next coach he stressed how he wants a coach who understands how to interact with the players.

I don't think the Eagles are screwed though. They still have a lot of talent on the defensive front 7, money to work with, and a new system may change how effective some players are.

I am alright with him gone but wouldn't go that far. He didn't do to the Eagles what Doug Collins did to the 76ers or what Ruben Amaro did to the Phillies.

  22. Eagles ended their playoff hopes in a game that pretty much reflected the entire season. 7 dropped passes, 7 fumbles (2 lost).

With that said I actually feel pretty good about next year. Bradford should be resigned even if they have to overpay a bit he really turned his season around and has looked like a legit talent in the 2nd half of the year. He is just surrounded by incompetence. I would also like Chip to return as his system isn't a problem and works in the NFL but I would consider revoking his full control over the roster. Chip is terrible at evaluating talent. I miss Andy Reid's drafts. Reid's last Eagles draft consisted of...

    1 - Fletcher Cox

    2 - Mychal Kendricks

    2 - Vinny Curry

    3 - Nick Foles

    4 - Brandon Boykin

    5 - Dennis Kelly

    6 - Marvin McNutt Jr.

    6 - Brandon Washington

    7 - Bryce Brown

Meanwhile Chip is giving us guys like Marcus Smith and Nelson Agholor xD Hicks and Matthews have been the only 2 guys hes drafted in the last 2 years that have been legit.

But I think if they focus the draft and FA on the offensive line and WR's they will fix the offensive issues. I would also cut Riley Cooper. Defensively I would simply fire Bill Davis. The Eagles have a lot of defensive talent but the system is just idiotic. It doesn't maximize their strengths and it embraces their weaknesses.

I doubt they turn it around in the fashion Carolina did but I see them in a similar situation where a few specific changes could get them rolling again.
