The biggest task Hughes and the leadership group have is to bring the room back together. We all heard the rumours under Bo that the room was divided and “clique-y”.

Good teams have a close knit group of players that bond on and off the ice. Everyone has to feel included and that they are an important part of the team. It’s up to him to organize team dinners and functions. That’s how you build a winning team off the ice.

If there’s one thing Henrik can tell him it’s that. Apparently the Sedins were very good at making sure every guy on the team was included, especially the young guys. You can’t get the buy in you need if certain guys feel like outsiders on their team. You need all 23 guys pulling together on the rope to win.

    Yes..."he mixes with everybody".

  2. I was hoping that Miller would get the nod, but understand why they went with Hughes.

Listening to the press conference, Tocchet commented that Hughes "mixes with everybody."

Perhaps there's concern that Miller's "big" personality might be a bit abrasive for some people.

Maybe even a possibility for JT to become 'divisive' in the room, if the season goes sideways.

This is only speculation on my part, but that Tocc quote kind of sticks in my head.

Regardless, you can't keep a good man down, so expect Miller to continue being a huge factor

as part of the leadership group and a big support for Hughes as well.

Yeah, I started with a 1 for 1 trade, but thought we'd need to add.  This seems painful enough to be realistic.

This is a solid trade, Ted.  Trenin reminds me of Frederic (Boston), but doesn't have the offensive

potential.  He would be an awesome addition to our team's bottom 6.

Peeps need to remember that the Canucks also get the remainder of Beau's cap space (2.4m), so

it really is a sweet deal.  Nashville can use Beau's offensive game, as well as his routinely healthy

season.  It's hard to say where the Preds are going with this team, but Beau would benefit

from being on their top line.  Forsberg - Novak - Beau

Nashville get Beau + Karlsson + 4th    Nucks are awash with top RWs; Karlsson is yet another RW,

who is only waiver exempt for this season.  NJ 4th will likely be at the late end of the round.

Canucks get Trenin + $2.m cap savings.

    Good job Ted.

    What is "aggravated" drunk driving.

In the article it says, "drunk driving is considered aggravated in Finland “if the driver's

concentration is at least 1.2 per thousand or he has at least 0.53 milligrams of alcohol

per liter of exhaled air during or after driving.”

    In contrast...

The legal alcohol limit for drinking and driving in BC is based on the alcohol concentration in your BC, the bloodstream. In permissible blood-alcohol concentration is below 50 mg or 0.05% gram, equivalent to

    two bottles of beer.

You just never know what can happen with draft picks. Canucks and other teams could have had Jagr, but he made it clear he would only come to the NHL to play with his idol, Mario Lemieux.

I've never heard that, but if he did publicly make a statement saying such a thing, he should have

been suspended from the draft.  That is outrageous.

Yeah, he is calling out management, but they deserve it.
He has delivered and they haven’t.
He wants to see his team following his example and management giving him what he needs to be successful.
As a fan, does it make me comfortable to hear?  Absolutely not.
    BUT

He is showing passion to win.
He has proven he will uphold his end of the bargain.
I think it’s fair for him to want to be be satisfied with what he see before committing 8 years to this proven loser of a franchise.

I think the management have done everything they could, what with the cap limitations and bad contracts

that JB left them They have also hired a new coach and brought in a terrific coaching/training staff.

It's his prerogative to sign for how long, or with which team, if it comes to that. Hopefully he signs a long

enough for the Canucks to build a team that can contend.  Didn't the management suggest 3 yrs?

I've been watching the KHL Magnitogorsk game during the intermissions, and I hate to say it but Yurov is without question still looking like the better NHL prospect than Lekkerimaki. Hard to fault the Canucks for that one though, as almost every team passed on him at least once (including Minnesota lol). I guess we'll see how things play out with the Russia situation. Currently Yurov has just one year left on his KHL contract and to me he looks like he could be NHL-ready next year.

As good as Lekkerimaki has looked this pre-season when he or his team has the puck, he's still a bit of a mess in his own zone. Just getting stronger will go a long way to rectifying that, but he also needs to focus on staying below the puck and not cheating for the exit before it's there, even in those small ways that don't seem to amount to much to a junior player but can make or break a shift at the NHL level.

He would have been a great pick for sure.  Canuck Army were high on him and thought he would be a

great pickup for the Canucks.  He is exactly the kind of player the Canucks need and his contract

with the KHL is in its final year.  Apparently the Wild are wanting to develop him as a C.

Like you said; there were a lot of issues around picking a Russian player right now and that is why he

fell to 24th.  After all, he was ranked in the top 10, so the Wild took a chance and will likely end up

    being the winner.

I'm pretty sure he was the kind of player to go many games without scoring, and then put up a bunch in a row. That's game to game, which is what I was primarily speaking about. But even per season, I have to wholeheartedly disagree with you. Look at his scoring pace per game by season:

In 18-19 with Penguins, he scored at .32 ppg. His first few games with the Canucks to close out that year, he went up to .63. Almost double. OK - fine. Different team, different linemates, different structure. That doesn't necessarily indicate inconsistency. And in his first full year with this team, he ran a .65. So his season was consistent with his short stint the year prior with the team, but if you factor in that year's performance with the Penguins as well, he did notably better than the year prior. But alas, 20-21 he went down to .35... almost half the production. He recovered the following year with .50 - which constitutes more than a 40% increase, only to then go back down in 22-23 to .36 ppg. So his record is almost a perfect up/down/up/down/up/down pattern, and not by negligible amounts.

We're talking up to 50% swings here, with only one year where it didn't follow the up/down/up/down pattern, and that's only if you fudge the numbers by including only the portion he played on the Canucks. I'd say that's pretty inconsistent!

But we can all agree that cap implications aside, it will be nice to see him back on this team again.

My take on Pears, is that you put him on the top 6 with better players, he'll bring the points. In 18-`19 he played

on 3 teams, but only in Van did he play top 6.  Same the following year, when he played on Bo's line and

he had a career year. '20-'21 was a dismal season; especially when Petey got injured.  For me, that is the

off year for Pears and he wasn't alone.  Only Brock had an increase in stats.

'21-'22 Pears returned to a more normal scoring ratio.

It's hard to tell what we will see when Pears joins the team. He's always been a good skater, so I'm

not worried about that, but the question mark will be his shooting and passing.  Even if he's on the

3rd line putting up 35pts and playing his physical game, he's still a better option than most.

Pears -  Suter -  Podz or Garland

After such a long absence, I would be surprised if he returned the Pearson we knew. He was already inconsistent, but I imagine a season of working his hand won't feel so great.

With that said, if he's not the player we lose to cap compliance, it sure would be nice to see the Pearson from a couple years ago on this team. His physicality especially on the boards is underrated and while he's no star, does provide secondary scoring.

I expect him to be rusty and hope his shot recovers, but he could end up a solid addition to the 3rd line if he can manage to heal and get back up to speed.

How so?  Prior to last season, he's had very similar #s since he was signed in Vancouver.

I agree that he brings a more physical style to his game and would be a great fit on the 3rd line.

He will likely be rusty, but he will get up to speed soon enough.  He's always been a good skater.

His shot might be compromised a bit.

I'm happy for Pears and am hopeful that he will bring a more qualified game to the 3rd line.

The issue is who do you want to lose to waivers?

Hoglander? Woo? Ratbone? Brisebois? The issue is it basically forces their hand to waive a young player regardless of camp.

I don’t see any way they don’t trade a forward before opening night.

I don't see a team picking up Rathbone, Woo or Brisebois as they would have to be included on their

NHL team; if not, they come right back to the Nucks.

Hogs might be taken, as he has shown some promise in the NHL.

prob too slight and small to really compete

he is waiting for his break out season which may not come

yes a garland for peeke trade has been all the talk

Boqvist is the best offensive dman on the Jackets.  Unfortunately for Adam, he has only played on

Chi and Col, which are both severely bad defensive teams.  Almost all the players on either team

are in the double digits minus.  Peeke may have a bigger frame than Boqvist, but his stats suggest

that his defensive game is horrible and his offensive game isn't much better.  How does one achieve

    a minus 41 anyway?

The Canucks don't need either player.  They need to find a way to acquire Dillon from the Jets!

Raty and Klim have looked much better but have a ways to go. EP, JT, Suter, Bluger, Aman and Dries are ahead of Raty on the depth chart at C at this point and about 52 wingers ahead of Klim, I don’t see them getting much time this year. I think that is a good thing though.  They need more time in the AHL, they are only 20.
Season after would expect them seeing more time in NHL and when the OEL penalty kicks up in 2 years seems more reasonable timeline for them to be breaking into league. Never know though, someone may come in and blow the doors off.

The guy I was responding to was talking about 2yrs from now (when Brock's contract expires).  Laying

out the various prospects and the possibilities in 2 yrs shows some interesting options.  I'm not expecting

a lot this season; I would be happy to see better defensive coverage and hardworking team.  Maybe get

a round in the playoffs, but it's more important how the team plays together and commit to the plan.

Boeser’s contract ends same time Lekk’s SHL one does. He will be gone in 2 years, not sure about trade unless deadline next year.

I am curious to see how Brock looks after a couple of weeks of regular season.  It sounds like he has taken

the offseason very serious, so maybe he returns with a new passion for the game.  That would be great

for the team; whether he gets a great return in a trade, or if he re-signs at an appropriate $ and term.

In 2 yrs, we will see some new faces on the team coming up from Abby (and other leagues).

Just for fun, I put together potential FW players in 2 yrs; not including the 2 recent drafts and mostly

from Abby, as they are more ready for the NHL.

    Kuze?    Pete       Boeser

    Podz        Millsy      Lekker

    Mik/Joshua    Raty     Klim/Karlsson

    Bloom/Bains    Aman/Sasson

                            Nielsen

The next 2 seasons will be a very interesting year for the Abby team.  We could see a couple of graduates

during the coming season and then more the next.  4 or 5 ECLs will create some decent cap space to

improve the weaker areas on the team.

  15. Big season coming up for Woo.  If he continues to improve his game in the AHL, he might

get some looks later in the year.   I still have hopes for Jett making the team, as his toughness

would be great addition to the D group.  Lots of young players don't make the NHL jump turn until

    they are 23-24yrs.

I think he's gotten a bad rap for his defense in his career, but he was never really billed as a defensive stalwart. He's a second pairing offensive threat that does well on the power play and doesn't look completely lost on the kill. He makes some bad mistakes at times, but a lot of those were overcompensating for a bad play/bad positioning by his defensive partner. If he's paired with a solid defensive guy, you're going to be very happy with him.

I’m not opposed to Dillon either. I think he can log more minutes than Edler, but I’m not sure there’s room for him at this time. I think having Edler as a number 6 or 7 makes more sense than Dillon, who I see as a number 4 or 5 on this team. Having said that, if they take Garland off our hands, I would be happy to and make room for Dillon.

I was going with the OPs idea of having a 2nd LD that can play alongside Hronny and shave

    minutes off Hughes toi.

    Hughes   Cole

    Dillon  Hronny

Soucy  Myers (sign Bear if Myers is traded).

Personally, I would rather add veteran depth that could be cheaper, like Alex Edler.

Younger guys need a lot of playing time to develop.

I'm with you on this, although I'm not sure that Eddie can take on the minutes like he used to.  I prefer

a veteran that can play the minutes and hold the fort for a couple of years.  A guy like Brenden Dillon

Jets got him for a 2nd pick) would be perfect. I don't know what it would take to get him, or even if
the Jets would be willing to let him go.  There would have to be no $ exchange for either team. Maybe

Something like Bear with $250 retained + McDonough?

The Canucks have 3 promising LD prospect developing; 2 of which are solid defensive players that

can play physical.  Truscot 21yrs and Petterrson 19yrs.  The other player is Kudryavstev, who is

considered a 2-way, hard to play against type player 19yrs.  We will still have to wait a couple of

years before we see any of these guys in the NHL.

Yes, Yellowstone is a dreadful show with a very unlikable cast.

2 separate 1 season shows were made after the filming of Yellowstone, but is about prior generations .

One is called 1893, which is a very well produced western.

The second show is called 1923, which is a different generation trying to deal with the changes to

a more modern time.  It is also very good.  Apparently that show will have a second season,

but production is on hold because of the writer's strike.
