I’d do that deal. Question is would Detroit? This proposal is even more in Vancouver’s favour than mine. See if Benson fell to 11OA Detroit might be interested in him. Makes up for drafting Zadina. They need wingers more than centres. They have Larkin, Kasper and Veleno up the middle. They were playing Rasmussen on the wing last year. We could make him our 3C and maybe even a 2C with Miller playing the wing. And Raty is the 3C.
This trade would be made on the floor when the Canucks pick is up.
Good point. I was thinking that, seeing as the Wings have three seconds in a row (41,42,43)
they might be more likely to trade the 43 (which is the one they got in the Hronik trade. I don't
know what else the Nucks can add, unless it's replacing the 75oa with next year's 2nd.
Nucks 11oa + 2024 2nd + Beau for Wings 17oa + 43oa + Rasmussen

Danielson, Moore and maybe Yager are the only centres that could be available at 11 that have even a sniff of being a top 6 centre. Moore and Yager are guys that some boards have dropping to at least 17. Danielson is now projected to go top 10.
If Danielson and Wood are both off the board at 11 then I’d do this deal in a heartbeat.
If a fantastic W falls to 11oa (Benson) ...what do you think of ???
Canucks 11oa (Benson) +75oa + Beau for the Wings 17oa + 43oa + Rasmussen

Cheers,
Anyone heard if it was him and him alone that wanted Jake?
My bet is that Aqua loved the 'home town boy/all star hockey gawd' for the Canucks. Great $$$
potential that went very bad.

It’s not like we are trading away the future here. We are getting a 17OA pick in a deep draft plus a 24 year old 6’6” 3C. Plus we dump $4.1 million in salary.
Heck it’s probably Detroit that says no not Vancouver. We might have to add to do this deal.
For all we know, Rasmussen could develop into a 2C. He hasn't reached his peak and his last
season showed a solid upward improvement in his offence and defence. After all, he was a
9oa pick in his draft.
Regardless, he would fill a gaping hole at 3C, which is well worth dropping to 17oa and
still picking up RD or C prospect with a lot of potential.

For the millionth time - any cap dump will cost us assets.
Beau is not a cap dump and Garland might need a sweetener, but he has more to offer than
what you are suggesting.

The Preds have never seemed very keen on Fabbro and they do need a RW. They might
do the trade straight up, but there's no way they take Myers $6m as well.
I like Fabbro for Garland.
The Preds have too many Cs, so they might do an exchange for Sissons for one of the Nuck RWs.

So, some people wished we still had the NY Islanders 1st round pick, 17OA. Well, why don’t we trade for it again? Yeah, we may need to give up our own 11OA, but hey you can’t have everything in life.
To Vancouver:
2023 17OA
Michael Rasmussen
To Detroit:
2023 11OA
Anthony Beauviller
We move down 6 spots and open up $4 million in cap space as well as get a 3C/3LW. Rasmussen is also a local boy. He could play up the lineup as well and maybe put him with Miller and Boeser. He’s 6’6”, so we get a lot bigger up front. Detroit gets to move up in the draft and get a guy they may not have been able to get. Detroit has $30 million in cap space so they can add Beauvillier to hit the cap floor. I am sure they will weaponize their cap space every further this summer.
With Rasmussen, he can play as our 3C next year and we still open up $2.6 million in cap space to get a Dman.
This is the least painful way to open up cap space. We still get to keep a 1st round pick which would still be high enough to get a very good prospect…
I'm surprised that so many peeps are against this proposal. Rasmussen(9oa) would be a huge pickup
for the Nucks. He fills a role on the team, adds toughness, his offensive stats are trending upward,
is a local kid and only 24yrs old. I really like this player.
Still lots of potential sitting at 17oa at this draft. I'd do this trade in a half second.
But...I think the Wings would want more coming back.

Sounds like a reserved young man that doesn't like to gloat about his skills. He will likely
not be on the board when it comes to the Canucks turn to pick.

I don't know if this has been posted earlier on. Some news about the combine...

This is going to be an interesting draft. It's anyone's guess after the top 3.

Stephenson wasn't a bust, he was a very good defensively responsible bottom 6 center in Washington, & brought speed that was hard to play against. When he came to Vegas he started getting more opportunity & broke-out offensively.
In the 4 seasons he played in Washington he had 168 games with 33pts. I admit that I never saw
him play for the Caps, so I didn't know about his defensive game, but his pt totals certainly suggest
he was playing like the 3rd round pic that he was.
13 hours ago, Smashian Kassian said:He's had back to back 64-65 point seasons, and was on pace for 50+ the year before, that's pretty good production. I think you'd be happy if Oliver Moore is that productive an offensive player while being a speedster PK/potential matchup C.
I acknowledged that he became a significantly better player when he went to Vegas at 25yrs old. It
is not often that we see a 3 round pick turn into a top 6 player (I would be ecstatic if Podz developed
into this kind of player).
My point is that Moore will likely be selected in the top 10 and his projected ceiling is top 6. I think
most people would be disappointed if he had Stephenson's stats in his 1st four seasons.

For Oliver Moore I've been thinking maybe Chandler Stephenson. I don't think he's a top line player, maybe a 2nd line player maybe a great 3rd liner on a contender, but with that speed he'll be a useful middle 6 player.
Also the bolded is how I feel about Tanner Molendyk. Amazing skater but seems to often hold onto the puck too long & not really make anything of it.
I don't see the Moore/Stephenson comparison, although I do think Vegas somehow has turned
(what was likely a bust) into a very good, all around player. Being a 3rd round pick,
Chandler has outplayed his projection 10-fold.

This draft looks like there could be a good chance of being creative. If the Nucks don't like what is
available at 11oa, they could attempt a trade (Detroit) and up with 17oa + one of (41,42 or 43) Wings
are rich in 2nds. Chances are, one of the guys they've been looking at might be at 17oa.
For the 2nd round pick, I think Stramel and Stbak are looking like sleeper picks. Ritchie
and Bonk might even end up in the 2nd round.
I like Willander (his speed/smarts/physicality are impressive). Woods not so much (questionable
skating and processing is a concern). Danielson reminds me of Bo, but with better skating and
defence. He appears to be in the 'middle 6 (safe pick)' category, but might top out as an elite
3C.
**If Oliver Moore is sitting at the 11oa, the Nucks have to grab him. Despite his smaller
stature, he has so many +s in almost every skill category. He plays 2nd banana to Smith,
who has better wingers on his line. Also, it's interesting to note that Smith is only 1" taller
and 7lbs less than Moore. Lots of 18yr olds continue to grow during their late teens and
early 20's.
I can see him replacing JT at C in a few years. I'm dreaming of a Miller-Moore-Pods line.

We don’t need a precious top 4 RHD if we got our three best going as they should.
We almost had 4 AHL players and won games last season.
So three D good enough for this team next season.
No stress a la Benning… Do you hear me?
I don't think the team needs a top 4 RD at this point, either. Hughes requires a partner who can play a
physically defensive game, with +++ NHL experience. He also needs to play +/-20min a game.
Last year, Schenn filled the role and then Bear for a while. Our team has young prospects coming up, but
they are 1-3yrs (or more) away from playing in the NHL.
The UFAs this season includes some vets that could fill the role in the $3m range (Gudas/Holl/Mayfield?),
but it will be difficult to sign for less than 3yrs. Or, perhaps a viable trade can be made for a similar player
(Peeke?) during the offseason.
*It's debatable whether they will re-sign Bear, unless he is cleared as a health risk, I doubt they will.

I could be wrong but being a RFA does not count. If he was injured on your watch there's an obligation to pay him until he's healthy. Other wise teams would simply jettison injured players
That doesn't seem right to me. After all, Bear's injury occurred while playing for another team in a different league.
As it was his choice, I would think he would have bought provisional insurance in case he had an injury. I have
no idea what the ruling is for such a situation, but imo, the Canucks have no contractual obligation for an injury
that occurred during a match that was not Canuck or NHL related.

Kampf is a UFA, not sure if Toronto can possibly re-sign all their guys, they've got to decide on Kerfoot too.
Kampf would be a great pickup as a UFA, if at all possible (Leafs will attempt to re-sign him). Whoever plays
the 3C role needs to be a tough defender, as he will likely have young wingers to work with.

Due to a few meaningless games at the end of the season, I really don't see Dvorsky or the best
RD falling to the Canucks. It's hard to determine what players will be available at 11oa, as there are
such large differences in the various mock draft lists.
If the Canucks don't see a player they want at 11oa, I wouldn't mind if they trade down and pick up a 2nd.
My target for the 1st would be Ritchie or Danielson. For the 2nd, it would be Strbak or Bonk.
Something like: Nucks trade 11oa + 75oa to Calgary for 16oa + 48oa
They could probably do something similar with the Sens (13oa + 44oa), but would have to add to it.

To van: pettersson, 2023 14th pick overall pick, 2024 1st round pick (top 10 protected or moves to an unprotected 2025 1st pick)
to pit: Miller
Canucks would have the opportunity to select a top C and top D in the top 15 of the draft
Moore and reinbacher? Sign me up!
That would be considered a rebuilding move. I don't see the Canucks doing that. If they decide
to trade JT, there would have to be a top 4RD and/or a young player with #2C potential (already
playing 3C).

I think you need to flip the picks. Winnipeg might actually go for it as PLD isn't going to hang around and Montreal really doesn't have a better offer. If we can get PLD to sign an 8x8 contract to replace Miller as our 2C I think we've hit the jackpot...
When does JTs contract kick in. He has a NMC, so I don't see him willingly going to Winnipeg. That would
look bad on the Canucks organization (signing him to a long term contract and then trading him to a
non-contender in a hopeless location.

Way too soon for this discussion.
Demko needs another season to prove his durability and Silovs has ++ to prove in the NHL (the WC is
hardly comparable to the NHL).
You young grasshoppers need to be patient.

With a acquisition of Hronek, the defense is definitely better from a point producing perspective (say that three times fast). However, a top four comprised of Hughes, Bear, Hronek and OEL will be eaten alive in the playoffs.
I agree with you on the current situation, but we are still an entire offseason away from the final product. If
the management can acquire (via trade or UFA) a physically strong, defensive RD veteran, it could change
the Hughes situation quickly. The biggest change we need to see is OEL returning to his strong play in
his 1st season. I am hopeful that Hronek will have a positive affect on OEL; which would also cut down on
Hughes' ice time.
Gudas, Mayfield, Clifton, Holl, Schenn are the most likely (affordable) UFAs to partner with Hughes. I'm
not sure that Bear is the guy to rely on 100%, but if they do sign him, I would hope that they have someone
else that could 'share' the role.

Okposo has been a solid signing for Buffalo. A great addition for a rebuilding team and a terrific veteran.
leader. Just yesterday I was reading an article about how Okposo and Girgensons were teaching Krebs to
play a physical and more complete game. Krebs commented that his linemates had convinced him that
he had the ability to add a defensive side to his already terrific offence. He has also added 'agitator/pest'
to his game.
