  1. nah dude, you can hate on it all you want, i really don't mind. i'm just curious.

i totally disagree with the bold part, though! Mad Men had two major deaths (one by pretty dramatic means, no less!), and a handful of small ones, too. and I wouldn't be surprised if Draper kills himself by the end. but none of that really matters. you are totally correct in saying it's more or less the same thing throughout. the agency grows, and everyone gets drunk. the agency shrinks, then everyone gets drunk. repeat repeat. i do think the fact that the shifting in personalities and tone is pretty important though, and i enjoy that

I wasn't as crazy about Breaking Bad as others were (I did really like the first couple of seasons and the end, though). And I do think GoT is mostly a bunch of shells walking around waiting to die, I just much prefer the slow burn of Mad Men to GoT's plot-shock factor

I need a new show, so I can check out BSG, but no promises. I really have a weird aversion to things set in space. It's totally irrational, but I have the same issue with shows and movies based around the police. Just don't seem to enjoy them very much

LoL - 2 deaths... I really don't mean this laugh in a belittling way what-so-ever, so I hope you don't take it that way... but 2 is nothing.... GoT's kill ratio is ridiculous and over the top, and the series that I seem to get drawn to kill at least 2 main characters a season - Rome, Deadwood, The Wire... basically anything by HBO

I really hope you check out BSG - and make sure to watch the webisode movies/series between each season... and seriously, after watching the pilot, send me a PM...

And don't worry about it being set in space- it's absolutely 100% a human drama series that could just as easily be shot under the ocean as opposed to in the galaxy. Like I said, it's NOT sci fi - it's a soap opera for dudes. Not men.... dudes....

It's also the epitome of "taking it to the next level" after every season... at the end of the 1st you're like woah, crazy... at the end of the 2nd you're like wtf just happened, at the end of the 3rd you're speachless... at the end of the 4th, you're crying... (not gonna lie, I actually cried for the series finale - then pored out a drink for The Galactica and toasted everyone else who died)

  2. As for GoT - at least they have the decency to kill main characters off every now and then on top of throwing in plot twists and keeping you guessing about whats going on.

I know your sig is all about mad men, so you obviously love it and I don't want to diss it too much... but personally, I bored after a couple seasons.

Check out BSG, at least the 2 hr long pilot hehe, you won't regret it

  3. no idea what BSG is, and never seen Oz, and I certainly don't think GoT has elevated anything

Mad Men is a character driven show, and if you don't find it interesting to see extremely well-written characters spiral out of control in their lives, that's totally cool. I found it really engaging from start to finish

Just for clarification, you did watch all 7 seasons of Mad Men, correct?

BSG = Battlestar Galactic - the reboot... you should definitely check it out. It's like a soap opera for guys. Other then Olmos and McDonnell there were no legit actors in it. People will look at it an say "oh it's just sci fi", but if you actually like character driven shows, you'll love it. I'd classify it as a drama series set in outer space before I'd say it's sci fi.

and no - I muscled my way through 6 seasons (4, then the last 2 on and off) before I gave in and got hooked on others (The News Room mainly comes to mind)

  4. not really sure what you mean by this. takes it to the next level?

what shows take it to the next level after 2 fantastic seasons?

BSG, The Wire, Black Adder, OZ.... other stuff from BBC and prolly HBO I'm currently to drunk to remember and list off...

    like bob said, GoT....

not many do... the juries still out on a few... not gonna lie, I absolutely lose interest in most series after 2 or 3 seasons because its the same old stick - but Mad Men is definitely one of them... there's only so much of "oh look at me, I'm drunk and coming up with witty one liners for companies to advertise with" before it gets boring.

Honestly, I've watched 4 seasons and most of 5 and 6 and after the first 2, I couldn't tell you what season a specific episode came from if I re-watched it... that to me, means it doesn't have staying power.

Like I said, definitely watch a season or two, but after that, you're wasting your time

  5. i am nobody's bitch

    en garde!

I wish we were playing mario kart right now.... I'd totally say we're on the same team, then I'd stab you in the back right when it mattered most!

  6. sometime I like to pee in the holy water....

    and one time I poo'd

I like to drink to much - i'm never really sure i'm drunk enough unless i'm preying to the porcelain goddess

  7. Ninja Turtles 8/10

don't watch it in 3d, so blurry...

otherwise, it was pretty awesome, lots of little things from the originals (you can see TGRI on a vial of ooze). After a while I barely noticed how different they looked. Definitely worth watching again in the theaters (on a tuesday, anyways)

  8. Violence is extremely realistic and it's an intense movie; however, I must say I'm getting annoyed with these silent hipster movies that rely on sound effects and bland facial expressions. It was cool at first when Drive did it, but now it's just getting annoying. I get that they're trying to be "deep" and different and all but it just comes across as being lazy IMO. It's a lot easier to have no dialogue and ambient sound effects than it is actually writing an engaging script.

Edit: whoops wanted to edit my post, not quote it.

I honestly felt that way after about 15-20 minutes into Drive. When I say it was boring, the reaction I get is "oh, you just didn't get it". Wrong, I got it, I just felt like being beaten over the head with it or 2 hours was a waste of my time.

  9. Need for Speed 4/5

Despite the gloriously cheesy ending, I was pleasantly surprised to feel like I was actually in a video game for almost the entirety of the movie - with the only exception being the "love interest" hottie British chick played by the gorgeous Julia Maddon

Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) goes from meth dealer to under ground racer - i really don't know what more you could ask from an action flick... the plot was more then acceptable, the stunts were beautiful and the driving was insane. If I was sober, I'd definitely download and burn it to add to a DVD collection

Also - Michael Keaton almost stole the show

  10. Wouldn't it make more sense to play in SHL or KHL instead of the CHL? It honestly looks like a waste of a year for him to play against children.

Funny, I was fantasizing the other day about the Nucks getting an SHL farm team to send all those tweener prospects...

hmm, I wonder... just how rich are the Aquilinis ?

  11. I agree that in time, Jake will develop a greater sense of the game around him. If management feels it is an area of concern, then they will provide him with every opportunity to improve - video, mentorship, an increased emphasis on creativity, brain stimulating activities..

Kassian has always been a very gifted playmaker, while Virtanen is a noted shoot-first winger. Both will need to continue to develop their all around hockey sense, but they could become fantastic line mates one day.

    Virtanen McDavid Kassian

    Shinkaruk Horvat Jensen

    Cassels McCann Gaunce

Just need to find that young, high level #1 centre prospect and maybe a true #1 D.

That shouldn't be a problem, those types grow on trees, right?

fixed for ya.... there you go
