And a heads up...Arctic air will blast southwards through the province on Friday, leading to a much colder weekend in all areas. Snow may even fall late Friday in the Lower Mainland. Stay tuned.

Sincerely,

Meteorologist Mark Madryga

Well for sure the arctic air is on it way down to the entire province. Love the cold blast!

Supposed to snow Friday, mixed with rain (which means its unlikely to lie, at least for very long). But it is supposed to be WAY colder by Sunday. Highs of -6 or something... of course that is probably wrong, considering that is 6 days away, but STILL. SNOW!

What you're forgetting is the fact that the Weather Network forecasted a cold spell for us a 3 weeks ago, but for Dec 9th and after.

Now theyre saying itll start on Dec 13th, maybe even Dec 12th that night with some snow, so they werent that far off their predicton.

Nonetheless, looks like we could be in for a white christmas

A ridge of high pressure off the coast will begin to advance into southwestern BC on Wednesday and Thursday bringing drier weather and even sunshine.

Computer forecast models over the last few days have been indicating that a sharp change in weather will occur on Friday in the Pacific NorthWest including Vancouver. GFS and NAM models currently show a rapidly deepening low pressure system developing off the coast with the centre of the low hitting Washington State.

Rain will likely accompany this storm on Friday as the arctic air from the north moves in quickly behind it. There is a chance of wet snow as well as the freezing levels will be quite low. Another factor with this storm is it may bring extremely strong winds on Friday evening. If current predictions hold true the insane winds from the northwest could rival that of December 2006.

Well below temperatures are likely for the next 10 days after this Friday's storm. This also means that our chance of a white Christmas this year will be quite high. Vancouver typically sees a white Christmas once every 10 years.

The SFU homepage already has its first snow notice up.

THINK SNOW

The weekend is expected to bring the first snow to Burnaby Mountain. Have you changed to your snow tires yet? Check out our winter driving tips. And make a point of checking SFU's Road Conditions webpage before you head up the hill.

Here we go guys

Snowfall warnings will surely be posted up by tommorow night for the South Coast

The lady on the weather network said we could have snow OVERNIGHT into tommorow

Then she said, accumulating snows for the entire Lower Mainland throughout the entire day on Friday into Saturday morning, before the real artic air moves in and freezes it all up

We could have our first snow days of the season Friday and Saturday
